www.ootpsim.com looking for owners

www.ootpsim.com is looking for new owners.

We're a opening day 2005 roster currently in beginning of season 2 (April 2006). Many teams are available.

Anyone can join for free and you don't need to own the game, but to make trades we ask that each owner contributes $5.

This $5 is to weed out frivolous/un-commited owners, and to cover the cost of getting site professionaly hosted ($43/year), excess money is saved for the following years (none of this money is used for profit). We only collect once every 2-3 years.

Rules:

1) You can only accept offers made by computer GMs (you can't steal franchise players from computer teams)

2) You can only trade with human managers who've paid the $5

The $5 thing might seem stupid/weird to most, but we've had too many bad experiences with irresponsible managers, and we don't want to have to review every trade that happens.

Please go to the forums if you feel like joining. I suggest giving us a try before for free before you decide if the fee thing is stupid.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Just won't pay for that website yourself, huh?

You need to get a clue about th $5. What a scam that is. Hey join my league and once I get all the fees, I will disappear and go buy myself some Taco Bell

Dude, really...why do you care? We've done this once before already. Your not going to join the league, that's fine, so now it's time to just move on. It's his league and he can run it however he wants. The idea of asking for a financial commitment from owners before making an indelible mark may be rare, but it's not totally unprecedented.

I don't think charging for teams is a good idea, but it's not a bad idea. If it works, it works. I know someone might be less willing to bo-bo up a team and neglect it if they've invested some money into it.

I had a passing thought that a paid league with prize money might be cool. $10 buy in per season, $150 first prize or something.

Nothing I feel like doing now, but it might ad an interesting twist to a league. I've run cash prize video game tournaments before, and only on rare occasion with very immature kids has there ever been anything but top notch, fun, competetive play.

Dude seriously. You already **** all over his other thread, what's the point of doing it again. You already said your peace, now let the dude find an owner of 3. You keep doing this, he'll keep starting threads because you whining will keep getting it closed.

Well its unfortunate that everone thinks that you'll run away with $5... but to us its a good litmus test to see if someone is really interested in staying in a league and making effective decisions?

For who have been doing this for a while, how many times have your run into owners who join your league, make some bad trades, fall into last place, then disappear... What else can you do to get solid owners into a league and keep the frivolent out?

I'm sure its tought to trust someone with a whole $5... but my feeling is you get enjoyment out of a league whats $5 over 2-3 years?

And in case you're wondering, I keep all the league's money in a seperate paypal aco**** from my personal account. It has to be under a person's name, but I keep it seperate.

If it were me and I know the commish was paying for all the expenses, I know i'd offer to chip in...

Well, I have strong feelings about it. I would think the TOS agreement would have something against making money off OOTP, wouldnt it?

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that you represented OOTP Developments.

As indicated by the closing of the last thread, they're clearly aware of it and apparently feel no need/justification for taking issue with it.

Fine, but last I looked, his league doesn't affect you in anyway. His league will not change your enjoyment in the game.

Just be sure to wear your flame ******ant suit if you decide to go for it. I can remember a few who have tried in the last three years and they seemed to get torched. Personally as someone who'd been in fantasy leagues, etc where you have an entry fee, I always thought it would be fun. Unfortunately it probably would really open the door to internet cheats. Heck, it's hard enough to keep cheats out of leagues that are just for fun and don't mean anything in the greater scheme of life. I can't imagine what some would do if there was actually $10 at stake (or the grand prize whatever it may be). But good luck if you ever do go for it. Would be interesting to see how it turned out.

I like the idea of having the gm's chip in a little...I mean as the commish, we pay and update the site, and try to keep it fun and exciting....You should also maybe look into just having a donation account, so that some gm's will donate a few bucks here or their to help out....I wish ootp had sort of tracking systems for gm's who quit in the middle of the season, so future gm's will know their track record!
