Series Preview: CHI Cubs @ Citi Field (4-Games)

We have a big set of games coming up versus the Cubs.
This team is going to give us all that we can handle over the weekend.
Kris Bryant, Albert Almora and Addison Russell are the guys we have to deal with.
Their pitching is pretty darn good too with Jose Quintana and Yu Darvish facing us this series.
Syndergaard, Kershaw, Strasburg and Sale will be the guys on the mound.
Lets see how this series goes versus one of the better teams in the NL!

CHI Cubs 2
NY METS 7
Citi Field

The Mets end May on a high note with a big win over the Cubs.
Noah Syndergaard got back to doing what he does best and that is winning.
He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits with 8 Ks to his credit.
Giancarlo Stanton continues to stay hot as he hit his 12th HR of the year.
As long as he stays hot, Aaron Judge will have to wait his turn.
But it was Buster Posey who blasted 2 HRs, his 7th and 8th to lead the charge for the Mets.
He also had 3 total hits tonight which gave him the Golden Bat award for the game.

This Month in Baseball---NY METS

The Mets go 23-5 for May.
By leading the NL East by 19.5 games, you could say the race is already over for this division with 4 months to play.
But we still have to play the games.
The June schedule contains games versus the CHC, BAL, NYY, ATL, ARZ, COL, LAD, PIT and MIA.
Could be some very challenging games approaching as we head into the summer months.

This Month in Baseball---MLB

Summer is here! Here is how the league looks after two months of play:
ALE: BOS is still in the lead, but TOR is not going away.
ALC: That division continues to flip-flop as now CLE is on top with MIN staying close.
ALW: Very tight race between the Angels, Astros and Rangers.
NLE: The Mets lead!
NLC: Cubs, Cardinals and Pirates within 2 games of each other.
NLW: ARZ, LAD and SD are the front-runners. SD still?

Rules Changes for June:

AI Trade Frequency: HIGH
Injury Frequency: LOW

Game 1

CHI Cubs 2
NY METS 7
Citi Field

Clayton Kershaw was a little shaky at the start but he got the job done.
He went 6 and gave up 2 runs on 6 hits.
Giancarlo Stanton was the guy again.
He went 2-4 while hitting his 13th HR of the year.
We take the 1st game of today's double-header and the 2nd game will be played tonight.

Game 2

CHI Cubs 4
NY METS 3
Citi Field

The AI really got me on this one.

Stephen Strasburg does a great job, going 6 and giving up 2 runs on 6 hits.
But Aroldis Chapman walks in the tying run in the 9th and then Ken Giles walks in the go-ahead run! (AI CHEATS!)
That is Chapman's first blown save of the year and he takes his 2nd loss.
Mike Trout did hit his 19th HR of the year, but it goes for naught as the Mets bullpen blows the game!
It will be up to Chris Sale to win this series tomorrow.

The Mets bullpen blows the game?
Well...if anyone has been following RL MLB this season, maybe that wasn't a cheating AI after all.
Fine!
Ill take off this "AI CHEATS! for this game.
But no more freebies, AI!

CHI Cubs 4
NY METS 3

For the 2nd straight game, the bullpen blows it in the top of the 9th.
This time it was Andrew Miller who takes the loss and Ken Giles gets the blown save.
Chris Sale did good, only giving up 1 run on 7 hits while striking out 8 thru 6 innings.
Giancarlo Stanton hit his 14th HR of the year while going 3-3 today.
We get a split over the CHC, but we should have won all 4 games.
The AI really cheated on me for the 2nd straight game. (AI CHEATS!)
This loss will sting until we play again and that is not until Tuesday against the O's!

This Week in Baseball---NY METS

After looking at the info, I actually do see a trend.
This team is 7-7 in one run games.
That means when the game is close, we win the game 50% of the time.
With the pitchers this bullpen has, that really is not that good.
We must improve in the close games.

This Week in Baseball---MLB

Going into June, lets see what we have:
ALE: Its all Red Sox and Blue Jays.
ALC: CLE and MIN are still trading places for the top spot.
ALW: The Angels, Astros and Rangers are staying close.
NLE: The NYM lead!
NLC: The Cardinals, Cubs and Pirates have a long way to go before this division is settled.
NLW: Courtesy of a 9-game winning streak, SD leads both ARZ and LAD. I still don't believe this!

2018 MLB Draft!

Since this season report is to close at the end of the year, I really didn't care about the draft.
I let the CPU handle it and these are the main guys it chose.

Series Preview: BAL Orioles @ Citi Field (2-Games)

We play our first AL opponent of the year versus the Orioles.
Not gonna say much here as I expect Kluber and Syndergaard to own this two game set.
No excuses to lose to one of the worst teams in the league!

BAL Orioles 4
NY METS 6
Citi Field
(13 Innings)

Corey Kluber pitched very well, but I might have left him in too long.
He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 8.
He did not get the win though as that went to Max Scherzer.
Kenley Jansen gives up the tying HR to BAL Manny Machado in the 8th to blow a save opportunity.
But we come away with the win as Nolan Arenado smacks a 2-run HR in the 13th, his 8th.
Freddie Freeman was 4-6 and Bryce Harper hit his 13th HR of the year.
When we gave up 4 runs to the Orioles in the 8th, I was not having good thoughts.
But a win is a win no matter how you get it.
