I realized what I just did. I scheduled a tiebreaker game for October 23rd instead of September 23rd, so that's why the playoffs started a month late. Stupid me! It would have been a shame to lose this great league through something as stupid as this. So the 1919 National Hockey League of Baseball Stanley Cup Finals will be played at Thanksgiving in the freezing cold weather! That's the way that hockey should be.

Aargh, not another game 7 loss for my poor Devils. They seem to be pretty good as an 8 seed though, and terrible as a one seed, at least in the recent history (of your league, although the same could potentially be said of the real NHL team as well).
Also, just attribute the 1919 scheduling error to the flu. After all, it did cancel the 1919 NHL Stanley Cup in real life. |

Cool, glad to see that some people are following this.
I feel bad for the New York Islanders. They've had a great team for so long, made the Stanley Cup Finals 5 times, and lost every time. Now over the past couple of years, they've had it rough and finished out of the playoffs. I guess management decided that it was time to blow that team up. It reminds me of how the Buffalo Bills lost four straight Super Bowls, and then eventually faded into mediocrity. The Los Angeles Kings had an incredible run. I didn't expect that to happen in a league that I built on parity. That's because anything can happen in a short best-of-7 series. To win 3 straight Stanley Cups, and 4 in 6 years is remarkable. It had to come to an end sometime though, as they got knocked off by the Phoenix Coyotes in the first round of the 1918 playoffs. Speaking of the 1918 playoffs, fans' brackets must have been completely blown up. It must have caused chaos in those Hockey Madness pools! In the first round, both #1 and #2 seeds lost, and a #3 also lost. The Eastern Conference Finals was an 8-7 matchup, and the Stanley Cup Finals was a 7-7 matchup, featuring two teams that were barely above .500! (The Florida Panthers beat the St. Louis Blues.) As for 1919, congratulations to the Pittsburgh Penguins. They don't make the playoffs all that often (6 times in 19 years), but they've shown that they can win. They've already won 2 Stanley Cups. 1921 Final Standings and Playoff Bracket
There are no Canadian teams in the 1921 playoffs. This is the first time that I can recall this happening in the history of this league. The best record of any team from Canada was the Toronto Maple Leafs at 79-83. They finished one game behind 8th place Atlanta.
My favorite first round matchups: Islanders vs. Devils, and Rangers vs. Hurricanes. Last edited by jg2977; 05-12-2009 at 08:56 PM. |

Geez, the Eastern Conference must think this is the NBAB. The second place team was 21 games back?
I will definitely follow this, although posting might be sporadic. Last edited by alslammerz; 05-12-2009 at 09:52 PM. Reason: Oops, that's what I get for going off memory. 21, not 23. |

That's actually a dynasty that I'm planning on starting. Maybe for OOTP 10. My plan is to have the 30 current teams, plus a whole bunch of expansion teams. I'd like about 50 teams total, and the top 32 to make the playoffs. That should be pretty wild.I haven't had time to finish the first round. Had a busy day today. I will probably have the rest of the scores up tonight. The #1 seed Dallas Stars in the West are in trouble. They fell behind 3 games to none against the #8 seed Red Wings, but did win Game 4. I have seen plenty of teams come back from 0-3 deficits in the 20-year history of this league, especially #1 and #2 seeds. So they still have a shot to survive. For anybody who's interested, I found a great website to make my playoff brackets. It's called bracketmaker.com, and registration is completely free. Last edited by jg2977; 05-13-2009 at 10:27 PM. |

Well, the #1 seed in the West is gone. The Dallas Stars lost to the Detroit Red Wings in 5 games. The Stars had finished 17.5 games ahead of the Wings, but lost all three games at home. That's unacceptable for a #1 seed, and I'm sure that heads will roll in Dallas. This was the 11th playoff appearance for the Stars, and they haven't even gotten to the Stanley Cup Finals yet. This is a franchise that has had some very good teams in the past, with three 1st place finishes, one 2nd place finish, and one 3rd place finish. So they have certainly had their share of playoff frustration.
The second round in the West will be Detroit vs. Anaheim, and Phoenix vs. St. Louis. Being from the Northeast, I absolutely love the 2nd round matchups in the East. The New York Rangers will battle the powerful Philadelphia Flyers, and the New York Islanders will try to dethrone the defending Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins.
