Divide 40 by 42, Mathmagicman.

Now if I could only get this message board to play an Mmm-Bop midi while you browse this thread...

Curcio - 28.2 IP, 6 strikeouts. Talk about letting your defense do the work for you.

How do you have the pinch-hitters ordered? I ask only because Maxwell Pearson, who hits like a little girl, has 32 at-bats, while my boy Galyon only has 11. I think you should teach Galyon left field and send Tracey down for AAA seasoning. He's fallen prey to the, um...Mike Caruso Disease.

You're going to be over .500 after the next sim...30 plus games into the season. How's that gonna feel?

Pearson is the backup at 2nd, SS and 3rd, while Galyon is only backing up 1B. So, that's why he has more at bats. I don't have anyone actually penciled in on the pinch hitter lists, because who I want the manager to turn to depends on the situation. I've thought many times about teaching Galyon the OF, but I'm pretty sure if I do he'll just have a 1 in range, like M-Rod and Sedgwick did. I still have confidence in Tracey; he hasn't done a badly as Claus did the season I sent Claus back to AAA. Heck, he's doing better than Claus now!

Oh, and regarding Curcio, he is a good groundball pitcher with excellent control. With two solid defenders up the middle (3 if you count Thom in CF) I think he'll have a good enough stuff to keep a sub-4.00 ERA. Check out Moreno; similar ratings, similar stats (4 K's in 20 innings).

Sim Report #4

5/7 - 3-2 WIN vs Florida - Skip Burns earned his first win of the season with 8 solid innings, allowing 2 ER on 6 hits. He also hit an RBI triple in the 6th inning. Carlos Martinez drove in the other 2 runs.
5/8 - 4-3 WIN vs Florida (11 innings) - Chris Curcio left with no decision despite pitching well. He allowed 2 ER on 8 hits in 8 innings, allowing no walks and picking up no strikeouts. Moreno blew a save, but Charlie Clowers pitched a scoreless 10th and 11th to pick up his first win of the season. Lust led the offense with 3 hits; Horizon, Rodriguez and Talamantez each added 2 hits.
5/9 - 4-0 WIN @ Connecticut - Bick Horizon hit a solo HR (10) and M-Rod added a double to power the offense. Chris Kearns pitched a shutout to move to 4-1 on the season.
5/10 - 9-3 loss @ Connecticut - Thom, Lust and Tally each had 2 hits, but we didn't generate nearly enough offense to overcome a shaky start by Alphonse Nietz. Nietz allowed 7 ER in 4 innings to fall to 1-4.
5/11 - 9-2 loss @ Connecticut - Once again we were manhandled, and this time Lowell Stang took the brunt of the damage. Stang coughed up 5 ER in 5 innings to fall to 3-3.
5/12 - 8-7 loss vs Tennessee (19 innings) - In a marathon of a game, Frank Scull allowed a 19th inning HR that would prove to be the final blow. Scull was pitching his 5th inning that night, and it was only the second hit he had allowed. M-Rod led the team offensively, going 3-for-7 with 2 walks.
5/13 - 4-2 WIN vs Tennessee (11 innings) - Curcio tried his best to pitch a complete game, but left after allowing 2 ER on 6 hits in 10 innings. Welch pitched a scoreless 11th and earned the win. Pinch hitter Pat Galyon hit a 2-run homer (1) in the 11th to win the game.
5/14 - 7-0 WIN vs Tennessee - For the second start in a row, Chris Kearns pitches a shutout. This time it was a 2-hitter, and he fanned 9 batters. Kieth Tracey hit an 8th inning grand slam (3) to power the offense, which scored 7 runs on just 6 hits.
5/15 - Off Day
5/16 - 8-0 loss vs New York - Nietz was roughed up again, allowing 6 ER in 7.1 innings. His ERA has soared to 5.74. Tally led the offense with 2 hits.

I forgot to mention the Upcoming Games

We play the last two games of our current series with New York (22-14, #4) before taking an off day.

Then we travel to Tennessee (22-14, #6) for a 3-game series before playing 3 games in New York. Then we begin a 4-game series at home against D.C. (9-27, #22), but only the first of those games will be played next sim.

This will be a real test; 8 games against great teams before hosting one of the cellar dwellers. As bad as DC has been, they always seem to have our number. Last year, they won just 48 games, but went 6-4 against us.

Sim Report #5

5/17 - 2-1 loss vs New York - Lowell Stang had to leave after 4.1 thanks in part to an hour long rain delay. He allowed just one ER in those 4.1 innings. The bullpen pitched well, but couldn't overcome a Carlos Martinez error. Frank Scull took the loss despite not allowing an earned run. Offensively, we were held to 5 singles, two of which were hit by Martinez.
5/18 - 5-1 loss vs New York - Well, we were swept for the first time this season. Once again, the offense was ho-hum. Skip Burns allowed 4 ER in 8 innings, a decent outing against he Barons and their remarkable offense. Thom led is with 2 hits; a single and a double.
5/19 - Off Day
5/20 - 3-1 loss @ Tennessee - We had 8 hits today, including Tally's 2nd home run of the season. Kearns took the loss despite an excellent outing, allowing 2 ER in 7 innings.
5/21 - 4-0 WIN @ Tennessee - We end our slide despite another bland offensive outing. M-Rod was 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored, and Horizon drove in 2, but we went 7-for-32 as a team. Chris Curcio pitched a shutout, allowing 7 hits and walking nobody.
5/22 - 2-1 loss @ Tennesee - 5 hits, all singles. This is getting rediculous. Lowell Stang falls to 3-4 with a 2.15 ERA after allowing 2 ER in 8 innings. He struck out a career-high 11 Hounds.
5/23 - 8-7 loss @ New York - We finally score some runs, but now the pitching is gone. We hit 5 home runs; Horizon hit his 11th, Keith Tracey hit #4, Skip Burns his first, and Tally went deep twice to give him 4 on the season. Skip Burns allowed 6 ER on 7.1 innings.
5/24 - 2-1 loss @ New York (11 innings) - We lose by one for the umpteenth time this sim. Alphonse Nietz pitched 7 innings, allowing 1 ER on 7 hits. Adam Guerrero allowed a home run to the second batter he faced to take the loss.
5/25 - 5-1 WIN @ New York - Thom (2) and Claus (5) hit back-to-back 9th inning home runs to seal the victory, as Chris Kearns pitches a gem, allowing 1 unearned run in 8 innings of work.
5/26 - 6-1 WIN vs D.C. - Bick Horizon was 4-for-4 with a home run (12) and 4 RBI, and Franklyn Thom went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI as the Freedom goes out with a win. Chirs Curcio allowed 1 ER on 4 hits in his second straight complete game and third straight start in which he pitched at least 9 innings.

Connecticut	22	23	.489	7.0	5-5
Pennsylvania	21	25	.457	8.5	3-7
It was a rough sim, and it's frustrating that the offense has been iffy. But I knew it would be tough with so many games against good teams; NY and Ten are both 28-17 now. I'd like to get a little run going and get back to .500 next sim.

Burns wasn't sharp last sim, but I still have faith in him. If his ERA isn't down below 4.00 by the all-star break, I'll replace him with Clowers or even Moreno.

Pathetic. Horizon is on a hot streak, but besides that nobody is hitting. Tracey has one sim to get above .200 or he's heading to Allentown. I don't really understand this; everyone in my lineup except for Claus is rated 6 or better in hitting. M-Rod and Horizon are 8, Thom and Lust are 7, C-Mart, Tally, Tracey are 6. So, these guys are good enough to all hit in the .270's. I guess we've just been facing ferocious pitching all year. Sheesh.

Upcoming Games
We start with the final 3 games of our 4 games series vs DC (11-34, #24) before going to Connecticut (22-23, #16) for 3 games. Then we host New York (28-17, #4) for 3 more games before taking an off day. DC is 23rd in opponents average, Con is 17th and New York is 9th. Maybe we can get some hits this sim.

Awwww come on Chappy, how about some love for the Hounds pitching?!?!?!

Pitching ERA: 2.68 (2nd)
Opponents AVG: .215 (3rd)
HRs Allowed: 26 (3rd)
Walks Allowed: 118 (15th)
Runs Allowed: 140 (3rd)

Plus, I had to get the team fired up to knock off former Hound stud prospect Stang!!

For some reason though, your bats seem to have the wood on my arms. Definetly appears at first glance that your guys are the best at hitting my staff.

I certainly DO NOT love the Hounds pitchers.

I had 20 hits in 3 games against you last sim, well below my target average of .250. Fortunately, we won't face you again for a while.

Huh . . . whaddya know.

Guess I should have done my math before posting that . . . your right.

At least in that 3 game series you're talking about you're right, that series you hit .206 off my staff, but still, given the .215 average they're holding people to, I don't think that's too bad.

Sim Report #6, 2010

When we last saw the beloved Freedom, they were struggling to score runs. I'm afraid things haven't gotten much better.

5/27 - 5-2 loss vs D.C. - The team with the worst opponent's BA in the league comes to town, and we notch just 6 hits. Lowell Stang also gives his worst effort of the year, allowing 5 ER on 10 hits in 8 innings. Claus (6) and Horizon (13) each hit solo homers.
5/28 - 6-5 loss vs D.C. - Our offense exploded for 10 hits today, including Bernard Lust's 3rd home run and Bick Horizon's league-leading 14th home run of the season. But Skip Burns continues to be the bearer of bad luck, falling to 1-5 despite not allowing an earned run in 7 innings. He also fanned 12 batters. Errors by Tally and Tracey cost us big time.
5/29 - 2-1 WIN vs D.C. - We manage to salvage a split in the 4-game set with the cellar-dwelling Senators, thanks to great pitching by Nietz and a late home run by Ludwig Claus (7). Charlie Clowers pitched a scoreless 8th inning to earn the win, and Adam Guerrero pitched a scoreless 9th to earn his first save. (Moreno is out with the flu.)
5/30 - 4-2 loss @ Connecticut - Chris Kearns allows 4 ER in 7.2 innings to fall to 6-3. Lust led our offense with a 2-for-3 day. We had 7 hits as a team.
5/31 - 5-3 WIN @ Connecticut - Maxwell Pearson's 3-run shot coupled with a fine outing by Chris Curcio (5-1) lead us to victory. Tally went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Michael Welch pitched a scoreless 9th for his 1st save of the year.
6/1 - 2-1 loss @ Connecticut - Lowell Stang pitched a CG, allowed no ER, and took a loss. He's 3-6 with a 2.29 ERA this year. In a way, he deserved the loss, as it was his error that led to the 2 unearned runs. But, come on, let's get the guy some run support for crying out loud.
6/2 - 2-0 loss vs New York - We continue our excellent hitting by crushing 4 hits against the Barons. Skip Burns allowed 1 ER in 8 innings to fall to 1-6 with a 3.86 ERA. What an offense!
6/3 - 4-2 loss vs New York - Today we exploded for 5 whole hits. We need an off-day to rest, with all of that running around the bases. C-Mart is especially winded, as he had to go completely around when he hit his 4th home run of the season. Alphonse Nietz joins Skip Burns in the 1-6 club by allowing 4 ER in 6 innings.
6/4 - 2-1 WIN vs New York - Chris Kearns improves to 7-3 by pitching 7 strong innings, walking none and allowing 1 ER on 6 hits. Brenton Handel was 3-for-4 in a rare start, driving in both Pennsylvania runs. Hector Moreno returned from the flu to notch his 10th save. We really need an off day after pounding out 8 hits. That's almost one per inning.
6/5 - Off Day - Let's rest those legs!!!

Code:
team w l pct gb L10
New York 34 21 .618 - 6-4
Massachusetts 33 21 .611 0.5 5-5
Connecticut 28 25 .528 5.0 6-4
Pennsylvania 24 31 .436 10.0 4-6
I don't really know how to explain how frustrated I am right now. We've been improving offensively every season, and to hit this road block is very frustrating, especially when I'm getting such good pitching. We've been hanging around, and now suddenly we're 7 games below .500. Bick Horizon leads the FFL in HR, and is second in RBI, but everyone else is sucking. There will be some changes made for the next sim.

cl H. Moreno 17 0 1 0 10 1.80 25.0 18 7 5 8 5
I'm really impressed with these guys; especially the bullpen. The only real eyesore is Clowers' ERA, and he's been great over the past two weeks.

Tracey to AAA, Antunez and Leto to the bigs...

As much as I wanted to send Claus to AAA also, I couldn't. Who would I put in for him? The .143 batting Maxwell Pearson? The lineup has been shuffled all around, with the 34-year-old Marcellus Antunez taking over for Tracey in LF. Hopefully Tracey's exile will be short; we need his bat. But something had to be done.

Upcoming Games
We missed a good chance to reach .500 last sim, and now have a tough road. We travel to Massachusetts (33-21, #6) for a 3-game set, then travel to NC (33-24, #4) for 3 games, before coming home for 3 more games against Massachusetts. 9 Games against top 6 teams. We're gonna need to start scoring some runs.

I think it's Galyon time, for M-Rod just hasn't gotten it done. Horizon to third, Galyon to first, and a return to the glory days.

Well, I don't know about "return", exactly, but it's an idea, if not a particularly good one.

Tempting, but M-Rod has the highes OBP on my team. So if he hasn't been getting it done, it doesn't say much for the rest of the guys...

Sim Report #7, 2010

6/6 - 7-3 WIN @ Massachusetts (11 innings) - Don't be fooled by the 7 runs; the offense is still struggling. We managed 9 hits in 11 innings. Bick Horizon had a successful day, going 3-for-5 with a double and a game-tying 9th inning homer (15). Thom (3) and Antunez (1) each added solo home runs. Lowell Stang didn't have his best stuff - he allowed 10 hits in 7 innings - but he allowed just 2 homers. Moreno blew the save but earned a win after allowing a 10th inning run.
6/7 - 4-3 WIN @ Massachusetts (10 innings) - Tally, M-Rod and Antunez each had two hits, and Maxwell Pearson added his 3rd home run of the season, as the Freedom pound out 10 hits in 10 innings. Skip Burns allowed 3 ER in 8 innings while striking out 11 batters, but left with a no decision. Michael Welch pitched a perfect 9th inning for the win (2-1), and Moreno pitched a perfect 10th for his 11th save.
6/8 - 4-0 loss @ Massachusetts - Well, we were 2-hit today. Singles by Horizon and C-Mart were all we could muster. Chirs Curcio allowed 4 ER in a CG effort and falls to 5-2.
6/9 - Off Day
6/10 - 8-7 WIN @ North Carolina - M-Rod had 3 hits including a pair of doubles, and Bick Horizon added 2 RBI to lead the Freedom to a come-from-behind victory. The Freedom put up 4 runs in the 9th to take an 8-7 lead, and Hector Moreno pitched a perfect 9th for his 12th save. It had been a shaky day for Chris Kearns, who allowed 6 ER in just 5.2 innings of work.
6/11 - 5-3 WIN @ North Carolina - Bernard Lust (4) and Marcellus Antunez (2) each homered to power Pen past NC. Lowell Stang allowed 3 ER in 8 innings to post his 4th win of the year, and Moreno nails down save #13.
6/12 - 4-3 loss @ North Carolina - Just when you think the offense is starting to roll, we get held to 5 hits. Skip Burns pitched a complete game and allowed 3 ER, but fell to 1-7 despite his fairly decent 3.78 ERA.
6/13 - 5-1 loss vs Massachusetts - Curcio brought his B-game, and allowed 5 ER on 10 hits in 8 innings. Manny Talamantez hit his 5th homer of the year, but we were held to 6 hits.
6/14 - 1-0 WIN vs Massachusetts - Bick Horizon drove in Jason Leto for the lone run of the game, and Alphonse Nietz pitched 8.2 brilliant innings to move to 2-6 on the year. Once again, Hector Moreno picks up a save, giving him 14 on the year.
6/15 - 9-0 WIN vs Massachusetts - Chris Kearns rebounded nicely from a terrible start last week to throw a 4-hit shutout. Allen Stafford hit his first home run of the year, and C-Mart added 3 RBI as we pounded out 11 hits.

Standings
Code:
team w l pct gb L10
New York 39 25 .609 - 5-5
Connecticut 36 27 .571 2.5 8-2
Massachusetts 36 27 .571 2.5 3-7
Pennsylvania 30 34 .469 9.0 7-3
Easily our best sim of the year. We won all 3 series', and we were facing some tough teams. We lost ground on Connecticut, who is extremely hot, but we knocked both Mass and NC out of first place.

su A. Guerrero 18 0 1 2 1 2.33 19.1 14 7 5 7 19
cl H. Moreno 22 0 2 0 14 1.84 29.1 19 8 6 9 7
I'm still happy with the pitching. Skip Burns has taken Chirstopher Kearns's title as the unluckiest pitcher on the staff. I'm particularly impressed with how Moreno has setteled into the closer role; even with a long battle with the flu he is one of the top closers in the league this year.

     M. Pearson 39 69 11 3 0 3 8 21 7 8 .159 .280 .333
The lineup change worked; sort of. We didn't really get that many more hits, but we seemed to score more runs. Tracey tore up AAA, so he's been recalled. Antunez, who hit .421 in his place, staus on the roster while Stafford goes down to Allentown. Still waiting on Claus to come around!!!

Upcoming Games
Three vs Connecticut (36-27, #2), three games @ Virginia (25-39, #20), then three games vs Massachusetts (36-27, #13). Connecticut and Massachusetts are tied for 2nd in my division, but look at the power ranking difference. Guess which team is hotter right now...

Your pitching is really coming around, which has always been the hardest thing for me to get. So as of now, I am satisfied with the job you are doing.

PS: When is my next lunch?

So you haven't visited firechappy.com today? That's good. Maybe that ol' has-been Viktor Tay can take you out for lunch next week. The Allentown Army won't miss his .160 average, that's for sure.
