At your top clubs many of the players are not even nationals from the parent club.
30% of Bayerns youth team and under 15s are not even from Germany

Just like sports in America, many of these kids see being on a youth team as a way out of their situation and a shot at making alot of money one day

The club will probably hire private teachers, I'll ask him next time I see him. He's on a different shift to me so don't see him everyday but I'll ask him, was going to ask him what happens to the lad now he's signed pro forms if he has to go and get his own place or how long he can stay with him before he gets kicked out and the next kid stays.

Have they ever considered having a 14-17 yr old league where the big clubs can sign the kids but they would stay close to home and play on a local team?

It would probably be worse for football if they did that, at the moment the big teams can only offer places to so many youth players because that's all they have room for but if they could send youth players to other lower league teams then you'd see the big clubs signing up 100's of young players and sending them out to other teams none of the lesser teams would get a sniff at a young player.

Where do they find young players? Maybe the way that hockey grooms youngsters would be a more cost-effective way of doing things with a cap on the number of under 17's any team could sign.

The top teams have scouts watching kids as young as 6 play in school games and where I live they have like a little league football on Sundays and scouts go watching those games.

Do they serve orange slices and Hi-C boxes at halftime?

UKHS is exactly right
I had a good friend in boarding school who was being watched as young as 9 by Swiss teams and teams like HSV and Cottbus

Just like in American baseball and football there are some teams and conferences with reputations for exceling at prodcucing young athletes
Teams and scouts know this and try and scout these teams and conferences
Plus there is the word of mouth factor as well, a really good young kid is eventualy going to reach the ears of teams
Finally good coaches at that level identify good players and use their contacts in the football world to get scouts to come out and look at their kids.
Its looks good on them to coach and produce a good player and plus its human nature and something of a father instict to want your kids to make it as semi pros or pros

Finally there is a some semi illegal stuff going on as well.
When I was 11 the team I played for always had nice new $80 Adidas leather balls used by the pros.
Usualy a half dozen or so every two weeks. Brand new still in box.
Towards the end of the season we finally found out how we were getting them. We saw a scout of a team im going to leave nameless pull up in his vehicle and unload them
Turns out he was giving them to the coach in exchange for inside info on our team and league as well as being able to watch us practice since practices were closed to the public and you had to have permission to watch.

Im sure that goes on at various levels across the world.
The system as it is works and it gets some kids out of bad situations whom otherwise would have no economic advantage in life and no future prospects outside of a life of misery and poverty.
This is very true in North Africa and Sub Saharian Africa where many of the kids there, football is there only chance to get away from civil war, poverty and disease and in many cases a early death.

With the advent of various rules coming into effect in schools across England it could get harder to scout young players specially below the age of 11, reason being most if not all schools now have rules in place were only family can watch games and you need permission to film games some don't even allow it.

Teams have started getting round this by opening football schools in the Summer months, the teams class these as teaching children football skills but I don't think their kidding anyone to be honest and they use them as scouting sessions.

If I were to bow to him, my head would be about as his ankles!
I have met him in person and he is a giant!

I think that is dumb
Having a scout watch the game and practices is not hurting their education, and it very well could lead to a life as a pretty well paid semi pro or pro player.
Even in England as ecnomicaly advantaged as it is, a life of football is still better prospects than many of these children would have otherwise.

No falls it's nothing to do with football really, it's down to them finding school footage at pedophiles when they arrest them, schools have pretty much stopped parents and anybody else from taking photos or video footage at schools, you can't even take photos outside of school.

Ohhh

That is a shame
May lead to some kids never getting noticed and never having the chance at a football career

I think this is why some of the teams have started football schools during the Summer, they spend a week at one school then move onto another one for the Summer months. My nephew goes to the one at the school near me, they go Monday-Friday and start around 9am-3pm and at the end get a certificate presented by one of the players (Wigan Athletic in this case).

Yeah, he's doing OK and Manly havent lost a game yet(round 4 kicked off yesterday).

I think he's still re-adjusting to the different style of play, but yeah, he's doing well so far. He's also been handed the goal-kicking duties and he's not bad at that either.

For those of you in the US and arnt total football snobs
Tune in to ABC this afternoon at 3:30 PM, the MLS kicks off its new season with the Colorado Rapids hosting DC United
This will be the first game ever played in Colorados new stadium

And of course the stadium is no where to be seen in FM even though they have been working on it for 18+ months
Honestly, does SI even care about their researchers anymore?

If I had alot more time I would apply to be a researcher for the US and MLS.
I could find out even the tiniest of details about teams...like those tiny details like building a brand new new stadium that has been in the works for 3 years!
