Vikings have given up 3 rushing Tds and give up 80 yards a game.

Saints on the other hand have given up 14 rushing tds and 116 yards per game rushing.

I hope the Saints do try and run the ball. Even if they are somewhat successful it means they arent attacking the biggest weakness of the Vikings(secondary).

There is a lot of "Dead Coach Walking" talk going on here in Chicago. I'm fed up with the entire McCrapsky brain ttrust. Ted Phillips, bean-counter extroadinaire: Angelo, who finally gets us a QB while squandering three straight drafts; Lovie Smith, a coach who tries to stick to his system despite his personal. I look at a head coach like Don Shula. Shula took his personal and around what they could do best. With Unitas as his QB, his teams had a great passing game. With Csonka, Kiick, and Morris he stuffed the ball down people's throats and had Paul Warfield as a deep threat to keep defenses honest. Dan Marino back to passing. With Lovie it is business as usual. Lovie is taking full credit for the Bear's defense this year. Hopefull it will get so bad that the McCrapsky's will have to eat his contract. We have the Rams coming in on Sunday. I'm figuring they'll get their second win.

Anybody else notice how bad the broadcasting was Sunday. Flag on the play. Bear's short yardage attempt for a first down is stopped and the ball is spotted. The boadcast team had no clue that the penalty was against the Bear's. That's why the refs weren't doing anything guys. Had the penalty been on the Vikes the refs would have walked it off and called a first down. Penalty could only be on the Bear's because the Vikes were waiting for the measurement. Football 101 and the broadcasters were clueless.

Good points Bear.

They do need a regime change.

They were pretty bad in the late 90's, started to get some decent defensive players in the early 00's while still having a pathetic offense. Their defense eventually became so great it lead them back to the Super Bowl where they still didnt have much of an offense. Now their defense is older and their offense hasnt really made any strides and they seem like a team with no identity.

Getting Cutler can be described however anyone wants to see it but the fact that they put no talent around him put him in a situation where it only looks like a bad move at this time. IMO they needed to fix the OLine and get some speed back in the secondary before they needed a QB.

Cutler made one of the most beautiful throws I have seen this season on the TD pass to Knox. He tried to make that same beautiful pass later and underthrew it and was picked off. Whether he will just take what the defense gives him or if will always try and force it is unresloved at this point because they havent done anything to help him out.

Cutler shows a lot of talent at times but he is not someone I want making 40-50 passes a game. He is too careless with the ball so like you said they need to fit the right peices around him.

I actually thought he played one of his better games this past week because he seemed to be taking what the defense was giving him. Atleast in the 1st half.

I've seen a few Bear teams suck, over the years. I go back to the halcyon days when scat-back Perry Jeter was the bees knees.

They need an O-line. Finks built the team up from the doldrums by gettin an O-line into place. Some draft boards had the Bears taking Loadholt. He's starting for you. I knew we wouldn't draft him because he is big and a bit slow. He's a football player, but doesn't fit the Lovie Smith mold.

Wanted to see them get a top flight wide out back when they took Benson. I don't care what Cedric is doing this year. He had to on the scrapheap of oblivion before the light bulb came on for him. We did not need an RB. We already had one that was quite servicable.

You draft Columbo who suffers a devestating injury. After he spend about to years re-habbing and getting healthy you release before you can see what he can do on the field?

Bad front office, that got rewarded with contract extensions, for God lnows what reason.

But that wasn't the point. You were saying the Vikings have more ways to win, which doesn't seem to be the case.

The point of having many ways to win is not to do everything all the time. It simply means you can run more against a weak run defense, pass more against a weak pass defense.

I noticed that sequence as well. That TD was a heck of a throw.

Well if the Vikings are able to run/pass the ball on the Saints while the Saints are only able to pass on the Vikings isnt that an additional way of scoring? Vikings have the top STs units in the NFL as well but Ill leave that out of it for this particular debate. I dont believe I ever said the Saints cant run the ball I believe I said the Saints wont be able to run the ball on the Vikings. Why? Because no one can. Viking have had the most amazing run of stopping the run in NFL history the past 4 years.

You can beat the Vikings through the air if you can keep yourself in managable situations. If not you end up looking like Aaron Rodgers at the end of the games against the Vikings.

IN replying to the 2nd part of your statement. The reason its important to have balance is 1. It keeps the defense honest so you wont have Allen ripping the QBs head of all game 2. If the Saints are ahead its easier to run out the clock by running the ball 3. Passing the ball near the goalline is much harder than it is on a wide field(there is a reason the Vikings are ranked near the top in goalline defense) 4. Running the ball is much safer it leads to less TOs are less 2nd and long situations(Passing has high risk/reward)

I would say both scores hover around 30 and it would be decided on a single turnover, unfortunately it would likely be a Peterson fumble.
The Vikings haven't played a team like the Saints yet. Turn it around: the Saints haven't been held to fewer than 24 points this season and have averaged 37. What makes you think the Vikings can hold them to 30?

Too fast.

Adrian Peterson of Minnesota Vikings ticketed for driving 109 mph in 55 mph zone - ESPN

(Sorry. Had to do that poor pun, it was too fun. Okay, now I'm done.)

Both teams have very weak schedules so far actually.

I don't think 1 is that important. Look at a team like the Colts. Having great passing plus bad rushing isn't really worse than having OK passing plus OK rushing.

And 2 is true for everybody, but also not essential. Look around NFL right now, teams don't have to be that way to be successful. Colts is an extreme example here again.

I don't really know your point about 3 actually.

4 probably isn't true for the Vikings! Heh.

Vikings' Berrian gets big speeding ticket too - Chicago Breaking Sports
Quote:
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports: Vikings receiver Bernard Berrian joined teammate Adrian Peterson in the speeding ticket club after going 104 m.p.h. in a 60 m.p.h. zone the day after the Vikings beat the Bears 36-10.
According to patrol Capt. Matt Langer, a trooper stopped Berrian at 9:38 p.m. in the southbound lane on Monday.
Meanwhile, a tape of Peterson's Saturday traffic stop (109 m.p.h. in a 55-m.p.h. area) shows the speedy running back might not have been watching the speedometer closely.
When Peterson replied, "85," the officer replied, "you think you were 30 over the limit? I got you going 109." After giving Peterson the ticket, the officer, referring to Sunday's game against the Bears, told Peterson, "Good luck to you tomorrow."
Obviously the Vikings have a need......for speed

Wow, the Vikings are being taken out behind the woodshed and beat by the NFC Champ.

I kind of feel bad for them, because I was hoping for a 15-1 vs 16-0 NFC Championship game. That would be awesome!

Ouch. Poor E.J.

I did not need to see a slo-mo HD replay of that.

Vikes are good but this was eventually coming. If anything this week has proven that the saints are the class of the nfc and maybe even the league. Favre and Peterson together are good but they just don't compare to Brees and the weapons the Saints have.

Your post would carry more weight if the Redskins weren't a chipshot field goal away from beating the Saints. And the Redskins are TERRIBLE.
