After reading through this discussion, I'm thinking of turning off the morale system. Have many of you already done this?
Also, in addition to the issues some of you have mentioned, I'm worried that morale is impacting team performance too much. Rarely, if ever, does morale cause a bunch of talented players to lose 100 games. Maybe a slight change in ratings is appropriate, but by the sounds of it, morale is really impacting team performance and that's not very realistic. Well, you can make sure you have at least one or two veteran players around, make sure you have a captain. If you have a controlling manager I believe they should help prevent things from getting too far out of control as well. Sure, if you lose 120 games you're not going to have a happy-go-lucky clubhouse, but with all that, you shouldn't have too many players that far into the red that they complain too much.

I always turn it off for this reason. There should be some modifier for expectations. If you're the Yankees with a $200m payroll players should be more likely to be dissatisfied with a poor record than a small market team rebuilding with a $50m payroll. Same with minor leagues--whether or not it influences anything, it's annoying to see my prospects unhappy because their team is losing.

How would you even turn the morale system off, if you wanted to? I didn't see an option for it, but I'm sure I just missed it.

Because for some reason minor leaguers not on the 40 man roster develop with my laying time...if you're on the 40 man roster, playing time does not matter. Biding think this should be.

Frustrating
I am dealing with this problem on a regular basis. I took the Reds and my first season I let things take their course cause I knew I had rebuilding to do. I got rid of over priced players... and won 59 games.
Next season I did some work and I didnt think I had a great team I was much better. I won 73 ,but I was 10 games over .500 in August. Thats when I started getting the emails that there were issues in the locker room. Suddenly I couldnt win at all and had 2 very long losing streaks. I couldnt find any issues with players...yes some were greedy...low desire for a winner, but as far as personality, there were not any obvious problems. My manager retired I hired a strict manager hoping that would handle the issue. I again ( I thought ) improved my team greatly and thought I had a shot at the division. The problems began immediatley... I had a selfish first baseman... traded him.. I had an outfielder who would "call a spade a spade"( translated=outspoken)...traded him. Still no fix . I still got emails. I fired my bench coach and Manager who had similar personalities and hired a normal manager. For about a month and a half I did not get a email. They have now started coming again. I still do not have a problem personality. I do not want the issue spelled out for me. I do like the challenge, but I do not know what to do. I cant keep and shouldn't have to keep firing very good players and managers to solve this. |

I'm in 4 online leagues and they all have the morale system enabled. While I think there is room for improvement it is very manageable. Two of the leagues use coaches and two don't. I like that I have to take personalities into consideration but in no way do I see it having a large affect. Generally speaking having a few unhappy campers is not a huge issue as long as you have a couple veteran players with high leadership and high work ethic (captains I guess) and/or you are winning. I've never traded/cut a player strictly for morale issues but it can factor in.
I'd like to see the personality blurbs expanded a bit with a bit more variety and maybe a little more info. Would be interesting to see the mid-season report from the bench coach maybe go into a little more detail and maybe filed on the same schedule I set for scouting reports. That all said I like the personality fog and the challenge that it adds. |

I do like it but it shouldn't be the determining factor. Maybe my team wasn't that good in the second season, but we were winning when all hell broke loose. I will say my team is fairly young. Most players are under 30,and there are not a lot of guys with high leadership. I will address that. |
