Obviously the player doesn't want a 6 year extension because it would go into at least 3 FA years. The majority of players don't like giving up free agent years, and unless it's for a massive contract, won't give them up.

He did reply - he wanted 1 year. Just because you want a multi year deal doesn't mean the player does.

You think this is an issue because you don't see how easy it is to manipulate the AI into ridiculous contracts. I do. That's why I don't have a problem with the negotiations being tougher, because in previous versions they were far too easy.

So, since I'm right on the Arbitration thing, does that give me free reign to be a patronizing jackass

As has been proven with several examples, just because a player wants 1 year, that doesn't mean they won't accept a longer term if the salary is right. This same argument has come up a few times, and purely-and-simply - it's not the correct argument because it's quite easy to prove otherwise.

I'm not entirely sure, but I'm pretty sure contracts will roll over as soon as free agency filings occur so that means his arbitration will roll through and even if you offer a contract it could be for the next season after the award. I say this because no one responds to a contract that quickly and there's only a few days between arbitration rewards and free agency filings.

You're right, it was that one magic day. I was going to try to "change" my contract on the other guy in the screenshot, but I screwed up and advanced the day, and you're right - as soon as the filings are made, the contract year bumps. If I would have proposed that before advancing the day, and since it was the contract he requested, would it have been accepted as his 2020 salary (overwriting the current award), or as his 2021 extension.

I'm sorry that I screwed up on this test, but it's not worth reverting to the backup and the game already saved to the current date.
