I could see Steinbrenner absolutely flipping out and forcing Cashman to trade for Giles, even if it completely cleans out what's left of the farm system (Claussen, etc.). That's certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

""Georgie Porgie, he might buy the whole league, but he doesn't have enough money to buy fear to put in my heart."
– RHP Pedro Martinez on Yankees owner George Steinbrenner's assertion that he intentionally threw at Alfonso Soriano and Derek Jeter on July 7, in The Hartford Courant" Who is working on buying up the whole league now??? 2 whole players that were originally drafted by the Red Sox on the team, but the Yankees try to buy the league? If the Red Sox didn't "buy" players, they wouldn't be able to field a team.....and that includes Pedro!!

Actually it doesn't, since they traded for him.

That distinction never seems to matter when people talk about the Yankees.....they usually trade for people as well, but it still gets comments like "There go the Yankees spending more money...." My point is that every time the Yankees acquire a new player, whether through a trade or free agent signing, people start to complain about them spending more money, etc. In reality, there are a number of other teams....the Red Sox at the forefront.....that have spent more money on players not from their system. The Yankees have spent more overall, but much of it is used to try and keep a number of players that came up through the system. I think that is good for the game. The Red Sox have built a very good team this year, that has a chance to win.....however, it needs to be noted the way it has been built is with the same means that the Yankees always take abuse for. All the Red Sox fans are getting excited because their team is actually using their resources to make the team better. That is something the Yankees always do, and what other teams should be doing. It should be the rule, and not the exception......especially not an exception to be degraded for.

The fact the Spanks payroll is about 70 mil more then anyone else means nothing to you? Of course the Sox spend a lot of money but even they are not in the same league as the Yanks.

If EVERYONE knows how to spend their money the best way, the Yankess will ALWAYS win since they spend the most. Don't try to fake the "keeping players from their own system" thing. Most team can't find a way to afford too many home-raised superstars at the same time. If ARod or Griffey came up with the Yankees, would they have left? Or guys like McGwire or so would be traded away? You truly believe the A's would got money to keep all their stud pitchers from going to the Yankees once they hit free agency? Even the "own system" stuff is a lie. Soriano was signed as a finished product out of Japan. Yankees got him because they outbid everyone else. And think any other team would have enough money to keep Henson from playing football? With the money, Yankees could afford maybe twice as much actions in the filed than some other teams. More actions, more chances. They got their busts on guys like the nearly 5mil Andy Morales. And of course there will be good outcomes like Soriano. Just tell me how many teams got the 5 million to sign Andy Morales as their "home grown talent". |

Wow Red Sox haters are as bad as us Yank haters .... despite everyone hating on the Sox and despite the fact that we are where we've been for the last dozen years (in 2nd place) and despite me being a complete homer, I believe Theo has done a great job ..... 1) Bill Mueller .... this guy was having a great year two years ago when he busted up his kneecap .... that's an injury that takes a while to recover from .... he's recovered and gone back to ripping the ball and playing stellar defense, why didn't any other team want him? 2) Kim for excess baggage, despite his meltdowns in the WS two years ago, this kid has been excellent .... he wants to start yet doesn't bitch and refuse to play (like several American players) if he doesn't get his way .... despite his position being highly overrated he's good at it ... what did we give up? Hillenbrand? he got to the big leagues at 25, can't play defense and swings at anything in his time zone .... he does hit the ball on occasion and goes on great streaks, but still he's not a solid everyday player ..... 3) Lyon for Sauerbeck .... Lyon had a great start but let's remember this was a guy with a low salary who the Blue Jays didn't want ..... a team who is 85% all about payroll and they didn't want a low salary player ..... well we traded him straight up for one of the best left-handed hitter specialist in the leauge and unlike Moses he can pitch to more than one guy ....4) the only prospect we gave up in the whole shebang is Phil Dumatrait who is 22 or is it 23 and playing AA ball so if he was gonna stick I think he'd of done it by now .... rumor has it that we may trade Youklis and Fossum for Garcia .... trading a 23 y/o for a 25 y/o makes alot more sense than trading him for that fat toad Colon ..... now even a homer can see that Theo is off to a better start than Dan ( I develope great minor leagues, yet when I get a payroll to work with I trade everyone with a pulse for every bloated contract in the league) Duquette .... oh yeah and to the guy that was saying that the Sox paid for their team so quit saying **** about the Yankees ...... look at what we paid for Mueller and Millar .... look at what the Yanks paid for Matsui and Contrares (sp?) and which would you rather have .... BTW I think at last count Red Sox's payroll is about 60 mil less than the Yankees .... good arguement next time think it through .....

I suppose, but I don't think Garcia is all that great. No way they'll trade the Golden Boy for him. Maybe if it was Barry Zito or something.

I'm gonna keep my thoughts to myself.
The Red Sox are notorius for hitting the floor hard in August. Lets be a bit patient. I do, however, want a nice pennant race. I'm pullin for the Yanks, obviously, but I wouldn't mind seeing the Red Sox actually put up a fight in September. |
