Yes, but I think if they don't win at least 2, they're done.

We'll find out in 2-4 hours.

BAD NEWS
-No time for bad news... 3 consecutive pennants is all I'm feeling right now.

GOOD NEWS
-Big bats for the month were Kress (.348, 7HR), Perly (.351, 4HR), & Mitchell (.329, 5HR).
-Top Pitcher was easily Roy Wolfe (4-0, 1.93) who as convinced me to leave him in as a starter for the WS. In the last two years he was the starter sent to the pen. This year, new guy, Faulkner is the odd man out.

SEPTEMBER AWARDS
-On 10/1 Roy Wolfe was named AL Pitcher of the Month for going 4-0, 1.93 in 5GS.
-On 10/1 Isaac Mitchell was named AL Batter of the Month for hitting .329, 5HR, 23RBI.

9/28 DET @ StL: WIN 2-0 Hal Andrew (1-0, 0.00) struck out 7, allowed only 5H and 1BB for a CG shutout win and POG. Grady Ingram allowed only 5H and 2BB, but also 2R due to a Degal HR for the CG loss. Top StL hitter was LF Ogden Wing (2 for 4). For us, Ray Kress went 2 for 3, 1R, 1BB. Dirtbag Degal went 2 for 4, 1R, 2RBI, 1HR.

9/29 DET @ StL: WIN 6-0 Roy Wolfe (1-0, 0.00) pitched 7.2 shutout innings giving up just 4H and 1BB for the win and POG. Don Vonkitzing completed the shut out giving up 1H and 1BB in the final 1.1IP. Garland Sisk (0-1, 6.43) gave up 5R in 7IP for the loss. Genarito Nunez was the top StL hitter going 2 for 3. For us, Ray Kress went 2 for 5, 1R, 1RBI. Dirtbag Degal went 2 for 4, 2R, 2RBI, 1BB, 1HR. Luther Ormiston went 1 for 4, 1R, 3RBI, 1HR. Matt Perly went 1 for 2, 1R, 2BB, 1DBL.

10/1 StL @ DET: WIN 12-2 Bud Ulrich had to leave the game after 1.2IP due to shoulder problems. Sonny Faulkner (1-0, 2.45) relieved him and got the win giving up 2R in remaining 7.1IP. Frank Vamos (0-1, 11.12) gave up 7R in 5.2IP. Top StL hitter was C Herman Dunkel (2 for 4, 1HR). For us, Dennis Kitterman got POG going 3 for 4, 3R, 3RBI, 1BB, 1HR. Dave Castaneda went 4 for 4, 3R, 2RBI, 1BB. Dirtbag Degal went 1 for 5, 1R, 3RBI, 1HR. Luther Ormiston went 2 for 5, 1R, 3RBI, 1TRPL.

10/2 StL @ DET: loss 0-7 Hal Andrew (1-1, 3.94) gave up 7R in 7IP for the loss. Grady Ingram (1-1, 1.00) pitched a 5H CG shutout for the win and POG. Top StL hitters were 3B Genarito Nunez (3 for 4, 2RBI, 1DBL, 1SB), Mike Fellner (2 for 4, 2R, 3RBI, 1BB, 1DBL, 1HR), CF Ben Cook (2 for 4, 1R, 1SB) & 2B Rex Seelinger (1 for 5, 1R, 2RBI, 1HR). For us, Ray Kress went 2 for 3, 1DBL. Matt Perly went 1 for 3, 1BB. Hal Andrew went 1 for 2.

10/3 StL @ DET: WIN 7-3 Roy Wolfe (2-0, 1.69) got the win giving up 3H, 3BB, 2HR, 3R in 8.1IP. Lloyd Wyman finished out the 9th for this final game of the series. Garland Sisk (0-2, 9.26) gave up 7R in 4.2IP for the loss. Top StL hitters were Mike Fellner (3 for 4, 1TRPL, 1HR) & CF Ben Cook (1 for 4, 1HR). For us, Luther Ormiston got POG going 2 for 4, 1R, 4RBI, 1HR. Matt Perly went 2 for 4, 1R, 2RBI. Dennis Kitterman went 2 for 5, 2R, 1SB.

Degal and Ormiston had some clutch power hitting this series, but MVP went to Roy Wolfe and I agree with this completely. After being sent to the pen in the previous two World Series, he worked hard on his control this last spring training. He finished the season strong getting the September AL Pitcher of the Month. And, it was nice to see him shine when given a chance to pitch in the big games this WS.

Wow Mike Kreitenberg's batting average really dropped over the last 2 months of the season. Something near 40 points or so. OUCH!

Seems like young players take a little while before the learn to pace them selves and be consistant ball players. But yea, bouncing around alll over the IF and not getting a whole lot of at bats in the WS would wear thin on anyone.

I know he deserves to start somewhere and I'm working on different ideas either on my roster or elsewhere. Its early in the preseason so who knows what could happen. I've gotten no shortage of offers for him and Degal, thats for sure. But I like those two kids so much its very difficult to want to part with either of them.

I imagine they're the future next decade of the team. Hard to see them anywhere else.

1955 PRESEASON

RETIRED
-For, like the third year in a row, none of my 40 man retired. Only career minor leaguer Larry Denmire decided to call it quits.

DRAFT
1- 21y/o LF Kurt "Knuckles" Knox - We were thinking SP with our first rounder this year, but when an OF with Knox's power potential was still on the board, we decided to take a flyer on him. He's still very raw, but he has the potential to knock in a lot of HRs if he reaches his potential. He also has a decent OF glove. Hopefully he'll be ready to start by the time Kress is ready to step down.

2- 23 y/o SP Lenny Elliott looks like he's only a year or two away from being a legitimate major league SP. He's got decent control and movement on his pitches. He's not a strikeout pitcher and is occasionally error prone with his glove. But otherwise looks to be a solid #3 or #4 starter some day soon. Lenny is a home town boy.

3- 23 y/o 2B Mark Shirley is a guy who can cover 2B/SS/CF/RF. Unfortunately he isn't all that great at any of those spots. His best assets are his running instincts, his bunting ability, and his versatility. He also has decent potential for doubles and triples. Bottom line, he's a roll player. But this late in the draft he's worth taking a flyer on. He's also from Detroit, but just like Lenny, that was a non-factor in our choice to pick him.

4- 20 y/o C Burl Peralez is an all around average C. But picking second to last had us choosing between him and an inconsistent MR and we are tired of ending our drafts with MRs. He's slow and doesn't have much power potential. But he does have a solid field % and is an excellent sac bunter.

TRADES
-Surprisingly, none so far. I say "surprisingly" because there was far more trade talk this year than the last two or three years combined. However, the two deals I liked the most were pulled back. There was also a couple of nice offers for Degal. But I just can't see myself trading a catcher with 50 HR potential until I am absolutely certain that we are no longer a pennant contender.

Right. You don't want to MAKE yourself a non-contender. :P

STANDINGS
7-3, tied with NY for #1 in the AL

BAD NEWS
-Scouting reports: Luther Ormiston's power ratings took a hit and Corky Stell also is going down hill fast... this after both had good spring trainings. Also, our second round pick Lenny Elliott injured his back and took a bad hit to his MOV rating.
-Degal is off to a very slow start (.226, 3RBI).

GOOD NEWS
-On 4/11 Isaac Mitchell was named Player of the Week for hitting .640, 1HR, 5RBI.
-Ray Kress (.324, 5HR, 12RBI, 12R, 16BB, 3SB) and Luther Ormiston (.314, 2HR, 9RBI) also kicked some butt.
-Bud Ulrich went 2-0, 2.13.
-Lloyd Wyman (1-0, 0.00) continues to defy time. He is a perfect 3 for 3 in save ops.

ROSTER MOVES
-Jim Coleman went down to Buffalo-AAA to see if he can learn 1B. If Ormiston takes any more talent hits, I may have to bring Jim back sooner than expected.
-Mike Patterson was called up from Buffalo and the rookie has looked fairly confident as our LHP setup man. Guilderson and Wyman are grooming this youngster in hopes that he'll be the answer at the closer spot when Wyman calls it quits at the end of the year.
-Corky Stell was moved into the #1 setup roll after a nice spring training, but then he regressed and has looked horrible in that spot. Magnus George will be most likely to move back into the RHP setup spot with Corky going back down to an MR roll.

STANDINGS
16-7, #2 overall, 0.5 games behind NY, 9-4 in the last couple of weeks

BAD NEWS
-Our bull pen has been a bit shaky lately. Fite looks like he's losing confidence in Wyman as we had plenty of save ops lately, but none of went to Wyman in the last couple of weeks.
-Dave Castaneda continues to struggle - .233 for the month.
-Depite beating NY 4 games to 2 we lost half a game on them. We've beat them more then the rest of the AL combined. Hopefully this is just an early season fluke and we can get back on top.

GOOD NEWS
-Our rotation has been fairly solid in the first month with no one with an era bigger than 3.68.
-Kress (.351, 11HR, 25RBI, 29R, 30BB, 4SB), Perly (.306, 8HR, 31RBI) & Mitchell (.400) were on fire.
-Kress hit for the cycle + 2BB on 4/29 and set the AL record with 5R in a game. He followed that game with yet another 4 for 4, 1HR game.

STANDINGS
52-25, #1 overall, 3.5 games ahead of CLE, 17-9 in June

BAD NEWS
-Scouting: Ormiston's report seems to be getting worse and worse every month. I wonder if he's hiding an injury.
-Bullpen: Magnus George (8.31), Lloyd Wyman (9.00), Steven Brown (11.57) struggled.
-Hitting: For the most part we hit well this month, but we did have a 4 game losing streak in the middle of a bit of lull in our hitting. Luckily the bats woke up in time for our last series with KC.

GOOD NEWS
-Scouting: Coleman is ready to be called back up from AAA, he picked up 1B like we had hoped, but now that Ormiston is struggling, he'll spend most of his time at 3B anyway. But at least we have some flexibility there. He put up some incredible numbers there in Buffalo highlighted by .375 & 44HRs in 77 games.
-Starters: Andrew (5-1, 3.94), Faulkner (5-2, 3.1), Wolfe (3-3, 3.59), Ulrich (2-0, 3.46) did fairly well in keeping us in some close games.
-Hitting: Darling (.538), Kress (.430, 7HR), Ulrich (.400), Kreitenberg (.400), Kitterman (.353, 3HR), Perly (.353, 5HR), Degal (.329, 4HR).
-Dirtbag Degal has a 16 game hitting streak giong on.
-On 6/13 Ray Kress was named Player of the Week for hitting .524, 3HR, 10RBI and on 6/19 tied his AL single game record of 5R in a game.
-We jumped back into 1st place again, but now instead of NY or KC threatening, it's CLE giving us the least amount of breathing room. This is looking like it could be a crazy wild race this year.

ROSTER CHANGES
-Jim Coleman will be called back up from Buffalo-AAA and will get about half the at bats (give or take) at 3B as well as be available to sub in at 1B if PH circumstances call for it. Kreit will remain #1 backup at 1B, but I'm sure Fite will throw Coleman in there once in a while.
-Don Vonkitzing will have to be designated for assignment to make room for Jim. Don hasn't pitched one single inning this year as he was at the very far end of the bull pen bench. He needs to go somewhere where he can get a decent amount of innings as his skills are starting to suffer from lack of use.

-Unfortunately, the online team page, stats pages, and some of the player pages are not updated, so I'll try to look at the bad/good news in more detail later if I have time this weekend.

GOOD NEWS
-On 7/4 Dirtbag Degal won Player of the Week award for hitting .474, 2HR, 6RBI and had a 19 game hitting streak going on during that time.
-In the AL TOP10s Kress leads in runs by 22 and in walks by 38. I love the way he does anything that it takes to help this team succeed.
-We took back the #1 spot and have held on, but now NY has moved back into the top challenger spot. Very cool to see four strong teams in the AL this year.

AL TOP10 TIGERS
AVG - Kress #2, Mitchell #8
SLG - Kress #1, Degal #4, Perly #6
HR - Kress #3, Degal #4, Perly #5
RBI - Perly #4, Kress #5, Degal #6
RUN - Kress #1 (by 22), Kitterman #5
SB - Kreitenberg #3, Fish #4, Kress #6
BB - Kress #1 (by 38), Castaneda #6
WIN - Ulrich #2, Andrew #5
Ks - Andrew #2, Ulrich #7,

SVs - George #6...
Where they heck is Wyman? I thought that last patch was supposed to help fix the closer / save op ratio problem. Too bad since Wyman was with in site of the #1 spot all time. But then again, winning is more important than personal records, so I shouldn't gripe too much.

STANDINGS
68-34, #1 overall, 8-7 in the last couple of weeks

BAD NEWS
-Scouting reports - You can just about stick a fork in Ormiston, the latest reports on him make it impossible to continue starting him over Coleman.
-The last couple of weeks have felt like the old days where one day our pitching would be hot and then the next day our bats would be hot. We had a hard time putting it all together for consistent wins. Hopefully these next two months we can calm down and play team ball again.

GOOD NEWS
-On 7/31 John Dirtbag Degal was named Player of the Week for hitting .400, 4HR, 15RBI. He was a monster hitting .346, 12HR for the month.
-Jim Coleman looked good after destroying AAA pitching for a few months... he hit .323, 4HR and will take over starting full time at 3B.
-Hal Andrew went 5-1, 3.86. Sonny Faulkner pitched better (2.27) but only managed to go 1-1.

August is coming in a bit... trying to get caught up today.

76-41, tied for #1 with the Yanks, 9-6 in the last couple of weeks.

BAD NEWS
-We went 3-1 against the Yanks and still gave up our lead.
-Scouting: Jim Meacham is regressing while Gale Adams is ripping up AAA with 35HR. Gale's is a decent defensive C who is nearly Meacham's equal with a bat now. Meacham needs to step it up or a move may have to happen soon.
-Fish and Degal both at 3HR in the last few weeks but are hitting a sad .235, .184 respectively.
-Hal Andrew managed to go 3-0, but had a sad 5.04 ERA.

GOOD NEWS
-Kress moved into the #2 spot on the HR Career Leaderboard passing Tiger hitting coach Quenton Misisca, he's also #14 in Walks and #19 in AVG.
-Luther Ormiston and Matt Perly are tied at the #18 spot on the HR Career Leaderboard.
-Lloyd Wyman is #4 on the Saves Career Leaderbaord.
-Kitterman (.385, 16R), Kress (.375, 5HR, 13RBI, 12R, 16BB), Kreitenberg (.359), Castaneda (.340, 2HR) are off to a nice start for August.
-Sonny Faulkner is still hot going 3-1, 2.51. Roy Wolfe deserved better than 1-2 with his 3.24 ERA.
-Lloyd Wyman got roughed up a bit there a couple weeks ago, but bounced back with 4 nearly perfect saves in his last 5 games.
