Jays Announce Minor League Award Winners
December 21st, 2012. The Toronto Blue Jays announced today the annual player of the year awards for each level in their minor league system: AAA Syracuse CF Rick Bjork .316 41 HR 135 RBI (with AAA Syracuse) Drafted in the 1st round 21st overall in the 2008 First Year Player Draft the 24 year old is poised to capture a roster spot with the Jays in 2013. He can play all 3 outfield positions and can hit for power and average. He will likely split time with CF Vitantonio Ardinghi in 2013. AA New Hampshire 1B Juan Campos .296 27 HR 128 RBI (with AA New Hampshire) The 24 year old was a 2nd round pick 60th overall in 2012 out of the University of the University of Iowa and is starting to find his swing. He will get an invitation to Spring Training and could compete for the 1B position vacated by the departure of 1B Nathan Wilder. If he does not make the team he will likely start for AAA Syracuse in 2013. High A Dunedin LF Victor Glenn .280 5 HR 59 RBI (with A Dunedin) The 22 year old was a 3rd round pick 86th overall in 2009 amd has moved slowly through the organization. He is starting to come around offensively and may have put himself back on the radar with a good season in Dunedin. He is still only 22 so he has time to develop and will lilely start the ytear back with Dunedin in 2013. Low A Lansing CF Rodrigo Fernandez .296 9 HR 78 RBI (with A Lansing) The 21 year old was 3rd round pick 90th overall in 2010 and is progressing nicely and with another solid season has moved steadily up my depth chart. Look for him to start at Dunedin next year and he could see AA by the end of 2013. Short Season A - Auburn SP Manny Feliz 5-1 1 SV 4.59 ERA (with SA Auburn) The 22 year old signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2008 and has not moved quickly at all but has finally started to show some improvement. He spent his first 2 season in Pulaski before finally moving up to Auburn this season. He put up solid numbers and will likely spend one more season witht he double days before moving up to Lansing. Pulaski - Rookie League 2B Michael Everly .316 1 HR 14 RBI (Pulaski (R)) My 3rd round pick 90th overall in 2012 from The University of Northern Illinois did very well in his first professional season. He did not hit for much power but I expect that it will come around. He will likely head to Low A Lansing for the start of 2013 but could move up quickly if his hot start continues. Winter Meeting Conclude: Draft to Expand to 20 Rounds
December 12th, 2012. The winter meetings concluded today in Scottsdale Arizona and the biggest news to come from them was the Unaminous decision by the Owners and General Managers to expand the annual First Year Player Draft from 15 rounds to 20. Some teams were having a hard time fielding enough players for their low level minor league teams and we believe that by giving General Managers 5 more selections per season they can field more players to adequately fill every level of their minor league system. Toronto Blue Jays GM Ryan Stewart ont he draft expansion "I was pushing for it from the begining. It gives us 5 more chances to catch lightning in a bottle and maybe pick up that late round gem that can blossom into a superstar" On the Blue Jays front everything is quiet as the Jays made no moves during the meetings leaving everyone to believe that they will fill their empty roster spots from within their own organization. GM Ryan Stewart on his lack of activity during the winter meetings "I wouldn't call it a lack of activity it wasn't like we weren't trying to make a move. The prices were just too steep. We don't want to give up any of our young arms in the starting rotation or one of our young corner outfielders to bring in first baseman or second baseman. every trade we discussed involved one of our young players and I am not willing to fill one hole but create another. Spring training is still a few months away and there is still time to make moves so we will see what happens" |

Spring Training About to Start: Jays Make No Offseason Moves
March 1st, 2013. With Spring Training just days away many people thought that the Troronto Blue Jays and GM Ryan Stewart would be much more active this offseason. The Blue Jays currently have holes to fill at 1B, 2B both back up outfield spots as well as 2 open spots in the bullpen. The Jays lost 1B Nathan Wilder who signed with the Angels and 2B Stan Elliott who signed with the Reds. It was not expected that GM Ryan Stewart would go after any big name free agents simply because of bugetary constraints but he actually stood pat and did nothing. It is good news for a group of Blue Jays Prospects who will be battling to fill out the roster in Spring Training. GM Ryan Stewart "We tried to make a number of trades but to get the type of impact player that we were looking for would cost us too much. Just about every counter offer included SP Raul Ruiz and we have no intention of trading him. Spring Training is going to be interresting this year as we have a number of kids who will be competing for jobs and competition is always a good thing" 2013 Spring Training Invitees: SP Richie MacGruder SP Michael Montgomery MR Ramiro Seguira CL Joseph Wilson CL Mario Barron C Nick Williams 1B Bill Darby 1B Javier Gomez 2B Lorenzo Vazquez 3B Paul Wood LF Rickey O'Esmund CF Rick Bjork RF Jim Leblanc |

Jays - Orioles Agree to Trade
March 3rd, 2013. Toronto Blue Jays GM Ryan Stewart announced that the Blue Jays have traded AAA LF Rickey O'Esmund and 2B Christian Aragon to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for MR Tekle-Giorgis Badu, RF Stan Pierce and SP Manny Guzman. Players Going to Baltimore: LF Rickey O'Esmund (27 years old, 3rd Round Pick in 2008) 2B Christian Aragon (22 years old, Signed as a Non-Drafted Free agent in 2008) Players Coming to Toronto: MR Tekle-Giorgis Badu (37 years old, 2-9 6.45 ERA in 2012 with Baltimore) RF Stan Pierce (20 years old, 2nd round pick in 2012, .323 5 HR 17 RBI with Freemont Short Season A) SP Manny Guzman (21 years old, 2nd round pick in 2011, 3-2 2.89 ERA with Freemont Short Season A) GM Ryan Stewart on the Trade "Baltimore approached us about the possibility of aquiring Rickey O'Esmund and we managed to work out this deal. We get a veteran MR who will get a chance to compete for one of the open roster spots with the Jays and 2 young prospects that could help us down the road. We really didn't have to give up that much O'Esmund was blocked by a group of talented young outfielders and at 27 was going to have to clear waivers to be sent back down to AAA Syracuse and 2B Christian Aragon was going to be nothing more than a backup" |

Blue Jays Announce Roster; Opening Day Around the Corner
March 31st, 2013. Toronto Blue Jays GM Ryan Stewart announced the Blue Jays Opening Day 25 Man roster and it has a few new faces from the one that won the World Series last season. GM Ryan Stewart on the Jays Roster Selection "It was a long month in Dunedin this year but it was a good, fun month. Our kids that were competing for spots gave us a great show and have made the selection of the last few roster spots very difficult. We are very porud of how they performed during the spring and have little doubt that those that didn't make the team right away will continue to develop. It is a long season and guys get hurt and go into slumps you always have to be prepared. I think the fact that we lost so many good players and are able to replace them from within is a testiment to how deep out minor league system is. For that the credit must go to the scouting staff for finding and evaluating the kids and to our minor league development staff for getting the players to the point where they can produce at the major league level" The 2012 Blue Jays Roster: Starting Pitchers: SP Raul Ruiz - 26-1 1.77 ERA (with Toronto) SP Bill Arkell - 17-6 2.59 ERA (with Toronto) SP Christian Jacobs - 23-3 2.04 ERA (with Toronto) SP Kiminobu Hashimoto - 18-9 2.70 ERA (with Toronto) SP Andy Simmons - 23-5 2.19 ERA (with Toronto) BullPen: MR Vincent Evans - 5-1 2 SV 2.58 ERA (with Toronto) MR Remiro Sequra- 4-0 8 SV 0.89 ERA (with AAA Syracuse) MR Ray Russell - 1-0 5.54 ERA (with Toronto) MR Mario Barron - 2-0 4 SV 2.87 ERA (with AAA Syracuse) MR Sergio Vargas - 4-1 10 SV 0.47 ERA (with Toronto) MR Carlos Yhuit -3-4 3 SV 1.09 ERA (with Toronto) CL Steve Perkins - 3-2 40 SV 1.22 ERA (with Toronto) Position Players: C Nick Cooper - .218 14 HR 51 RBI (with Toronto) C Hugh Edwards - .271 9 HR 58 RBI (with Toronto) 1B Javier Gomez - .280 17 HR 70 RBI (with AAA Syracuse) 2B Lorenzo Vazquez - .330 4 HR 51 RBI (with AAA Syracuse) 2B Michael Leonard - .190 0 HR 3 RBI (with Toronto) 3B Mario Rivera - .250 9 HR 58 RBI (with Toronto) 3B Dave Chambers - .277 26 HR 88 RBI (with Toronto) SS Richard Evans - .271 23 HR 106 RBI (with Toronto) LF Felipe Montero - .298 32 HR 108 RBI (with Toronto) CF Rick Bjork - .337 32 HR 135 RBI (with AAA Syracuse) CF Vitantonio Ardinghi - .274 5 HR 65 RBI (with Toronto) RF Jim Leblanc - .307 27 HR 107 RBI (with AAA) RF Alonso Martinez - .269 15 HR 71 RBI (with Toronto) |

Blue Jays Release MR Tekle-Giorgis Badu
April 1st, 2013. Toronto Blue Jays announced that they have released MR Tekle-Giorgis Badu today after the 37 year old refused an assignment to the minors. He was aquired in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles just prior to the start of Spring Training. GM Ryan Stewart on the move "We brought him in to give him a shot at winning a spot in our bullpen by performing well in Spring Training and from the begining he was a dissapointment. He finished the spring with a 0-2 record a 12.15 ERA and 4 BB and 2 K in 12.2 innings of work. He was simply out performed by some of our other arms. We wanted to keep him around and offered him a spot in AAA but he refused the assignment. We also tried to trade him but with no takers we were forced to release him" Last edited by ryan008; 11-07-2007 at 03:32 PM. |

He was born in Port Elizabeth (Eastern Cape) in South Africa. His name is easily the strangest that I have had in OOTP. Oh and thanks for the congrats on the rookie of the year. It was neck in neck with that kid from Boston but Dave Chambers had a good finish to cement the Rookie of the Year Trophy. Thanks for Reading Ryan |

Jays Finish Strong Month of April in 1st Place
May 1st, 2013. The Toronto Blue Jays capped off another very strong month that saw them go 22-5 and currently sit in 1st Place in the American League East division. The Jays are 8 Games up on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and 11.5 up on the Baltimore Orioles. The American League East division seems to be particularly weak as the Red Sox, Yankees and Devil Rays all seem to be in rebuilding mode. The Red Sox finished 2nd last in the entire American League last season and will have the second overall pick in this years First Year Player Draft. In a division that has traditionally played very tough it looks like the Jays may stand a very good chance of being the top team in the east for the 6th consecutive season. Blue Jays Notable Performances: SP Christian Jacobs - 5-0 1.10 ERA SP Andy Simmons - 6-0 2.52 ERA SP Bill Arkell - 3-0 3.03 ERA RF Alonso Martinez - .339 2 HR 7 RBI SS Richard Evans - .333 5 HR 21 RBI CF Rick Bjork - .317 5 HR 20 RBI LF Felipe Montero - .306 4 HR 29 RBI *If anyone can tell me how to post complete stats where they are not all squished together I would really like to post them, but every time I try they all get squished together into one big unreadable mess. Thanks* |

Jays Finish May With Big Lead in American League East
June 1st, 2013. The Toronto Blue Jays improved their record to 46-9 with an impressive month of May that saw them go 24-4. The Blue Jays are running away with the American League East lead having compiled a 20.5 game lead on the Baltimore Orioles and a 22.5 game lead on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The American League East division seems particularly weak this season as only the Blue Jays and Orioles are playing above .500 baseball (The Orioles are 1 game above .500 at 26-25). Notable Blue Jays Performances: SP Christian Jacobs - 5-1 1.19 ERA SP Raul Ruiz - 5-0 0.71 ERA Andy Simmons - 5-0 1.45 ERA 3B Dave Chambers - .355 6 HR 34 RBI 2B Lorenzo Vazquez - .351 0 HR 13 RBI LF Felime Montero - .330 2 HR 20 RBI Cold Bats: C Hugh Edwards - .193 0 HR 5 RBI 1B Javier Gomez - .217 4 HR 8 RBI Last edited by ryan008; 11-08-2007 at 10:02 AM. |

First Year Player Draft today: Jays Have 3 First Round Picks
June 1st, 2013. The 2013 first year player draft was held today and the Toronto Blue Jays selected 3 times in the first 30 picks. They received first round selections from both Cincinnati and Los Angeles Angels for the signing of 2B Stan Elliott and 1B Nathan Wilder in the offseason. The 2013 draft will also be the first year that the draft will expand from 15 rounds to 20 enabling teams to take 5 more players. The change was voted in unanimously at the winter meetings this past offseason. GM Ryan Stewart on his multiple picks "It is really nice to have a bunch of picks in the first round but since we can't trade draft picks it means we had to lose some pretty good ball players to pick them up. We are going to be looking for youth in this draft as we are pretty well set on the Major league roster and have some fine prospects in AA and AAA that could see time in the bigs shortly. We have the luxuary of being able to develop some younger players slowly and maybe draft a few more of the high risk/reward type players that we would normally shy away from" Toronto Blue Jays 1st-3rd Round Picks 3B Rob Hairston (1st Round from Cincinnati) 19 Years Old, 6'0", 195 lbs Bats: R Throws: R Frankston Highschool, Baton Rouge, Louisiana - Highschool (USHS) Potential Ratings:10/9/8/8/7 Rating @ 3B: 4 Infield Arm: 10 Comment: An offensively gifted thordbaseman who is not very good defensively but has a rocket for an arm. He projects and a 23-30 HR guy in the bigleagues and has the potential to hit for a good average. He hit .388 with 11 HR and 32 RBI for his highschool team in 2013. Estimated Arrival in the Majors: 2018-2019. He is very young and his ratings are very under-developed relative to his potential. I could see him spending a year or two with Rookie League Pulaski before he moves up in the organization. He is very young at 19 and will be given ample time to develop. C Manny Gonzalez (1st Round from Cincinnati) 19 Years Old, 5'9", 195 lbs Bats: R Throws: R Ceader Grove Highschool, Memphis, Tennessee - Highschool (USHS) Potential Ratings: 10/10/10/7/6 Rating @ C: 2 Catcher Arm: 6 Comment: He is the consumate project player. He has very high potential ratings but will need a ton of development to get there. (His current ratings are 1/2/1/3/1). He is a below average defensive catcher but I was willing to ignore that because of his bat. I project him to be either a DH or 1B in the majors and will likely start him at 1B in Pulaski. The only thing that scares me about him is the fact that je has a 2 in workrate, but with 3 first round picks I decided to take a flier on him anyway. He hit .410 with 7 HR and 27 RBI for his Highschool team in 2013. Estimated Arrival in the Majors: 2018-2020. He will need a lot of time to develop and because I plan on switching him from C to 1B it could take him a little longer. If he does develop to his potential he could be a future hall of famer. Hopefully my minor league development staff can help him a long. SP Bill 'Rapid' Lee (1st Round) 22 Years Old, 6'0", 215 lbs Bats: R Throws: L Oregon State University - College (NCAA) Potential Ratings: 9/8/9 Fastball: 94-96 MPH Comment: A fairly polished left handed starter whe could move through the minor leagues quickly. He throws 4 pitches and has a plus fastball and very good command. He projects as a #2 or #3 starter who can log a lot of innings. He was 6-4 with a 2,70 ERA for the Beavers this year and was an Allstar for the 3rd consecutive year. Estimated Arrival in the Majors: 2015-2017. He is actually quite well developed already and could move through the system quickly. He does tend to get a little wild at times, which can be seen in his walk totals this year (32 in 56 innings) but he also strikesout a ton of hittes (122 last year). Expect him to reach at least Low A Lansing or even High A Dunedin before the year is out. SP Tyler Kennedy (2nd Round) 22 Years Old, 6'0", 185 lbs Bats: L Throws: R University of Oklahoma - College (NCAA) Potential Ratings: 9/9/6 Fastball: 97-99 MPH Comment: Another fairly well polished College Product. He is a right handed flamethrower who can bring it in the high 90's. He throws a plus fastball and adds a curveball, changeup and splitfinger fastball for a very good assortment of pitches. He was 5-2 with a 2.79 ERA as a Sooner in 2013. Estimated Arrival in the Majors: 2015-2017. He is fairly well developed to this point but he is like most power pitchers in that his control is only average. It is the one thing that could keep him from climbing the organizational ladder as quickly as SP Bill Lee. If he cuts down on his walks he could also see Low A Lansing or even High A Dunedin byt he end of the season. LF Mike Halloway (3rd Round) 22 Years Old, 6'1", 195 lbs Bats: S Throws: R University of Miami - College (NCAA) Potential Ratings: 9/8/5/7/10 Rating @ LF: 10 Outfield Arm: 7 Comment: A very versatile outfielder who is proficient at all 4 OF positions. He is also a switchhitter but his for a slightly better average from the Left side. He has great range in LF and has an above average arm. He is very speedy on the basepaths and could steel 50 bags a year. In 2013 he hit .358 with 8 HR and 36 RBIs.Estimated Arrival in the Majors: 2016-2018. I am still not sold on the fact that he is good enough to be an everyday player but might be better utilized as a utility outfielder/pinch runner/defensive replacement. He had great numbers in all 4 years of College so we will see how he fares in professional baseball. He will start with rookie league Pulaski and move from there. Toronto Draft Summary: Total # of Picks: 22 Total # of Pitchers Selected: 7 (3 SP, 2 CL, 2 MR) Total # of Position Players Selected: 15 (4 OF, 2 1B, 1 C, 2 2B , 3 3B, 3 SS) Total # of College Players Selected: 11 (3 SP, 4 OF, 2 SS, 1 2B, 1 3B) Total # Of Highschool Players Selected: 11 (2 CL, 2 MR, 2 1B, 2 3B 1 C, 1 SS, 1 2B) |
