Blue Jays Set Roster: 2 Rookies Headed to Toronto
April 3rd, 2010. The Toronto Blue Jays packed up their equipment and headed back to the Rogers Center today and two new Blue Jays will be making the Trip for the first time. MR Sergio Vargas and LF Felipe Montero made the club out of Spring Training and will get a shot to repeat as World Series Champions with the Big Club. GM Ryan Stewart on his decision "It was really hard, particularly the decision in the outfield. We had 3 really talented players competing for 1 spot and in the end we decided on Montero because of his performance in Spring Training as well as being the MVP of the International Leage last season. We are also really happy that Sergio Vargas performed as well as he did in Spring Training he didn't allow a run in 8 2/3 innings and gives us a second lefty out of the bullpen this year he gives us that much more flexibility" 2010 Toronto Blue Jays Roster Starters: SP Christian 'Beer Barrel' Jacobs - 19-7 1.89 ERA (with Toronto) SP Kominobu Hashimoto - 16-7 2.95 ERA (with Toronto) SP Bill Arkell - 22-3 1.92 ERA (with Toronto) SP Raul 'Hawk' Ruiz - 22-1 2.25 ERA (with Toronto) SP Jose 'Meal Ticket' Robles - 11-6 2.91 ERA (with Toronto) Bullpen: MR Carlos 'Tracer' Yhuit - 5-1 3 SV 1.43 ERA (with Toronto) MR Ray 'Spider' Russell - 3-2 1 SV 2.97 ERA (with Toronto) MR Manual Villalobos - 1-0 5.79 ERA (with Toronto) MR MR Kenny Baily - 0-0 1 SV 5.79 ERA (with Toronto) MR AL Clarke - 8-8 9 SV 3.79 ERA (with Toronto) MR Sergio Vargas - 1-0 39 SV 0.92 ERA (with AAA Syracuse) CL Steve 'Cookie Monster' Perkins -3-4 37 SV 1.41 ERA (with Toronto) Position Players: C Hugh Edwards - .271 9 HR 58 RBI (with Toronto) C Nick Cooper - .218 14 HR 58 RBI (with Toronto) 1B Nathan Wilder - .266 39 HR 97 RBI (with Toronto) 2B Stan Elliott - .299 29 HR 122 RBI (with Toronto) 2B Michael Leonard - .455 0 HR 3 RBI (with Toronto) 3B Mario Rivera - .250 9 HR 58 RBI (with Toronto) 3B Byron Webb - .239 18 HR 56 RBI (with Toronto) SS Richard Evans - .296 35 HR 165 RBI (with Toronto) LF Marcos Rosario - .260 1 HR 6 RBI (with Toronto) CF Vitantonio Ardinghi - .284 4 HR 78 RBI (with Toronto) CF Dusty Witt - .111 1 HR 2 RBI (with Toronto) LF Felipe Montero - .358 31 HR 128 RBI (with AAA Syracuse) RF Alonso Martinez- .285 16 HR 53 RBI (with Toronto) Last edited by ryan008; 10-30-2007 at 07:14 AM. |

Ryan,
This is hands down my favorite dynasty of the year. You have built up an incredible team. Everyone of your starters could very well be a number 1 guy, and I see no glaring weakness throughout your team. Keep up the good work! |

Thanks jtb,
That is how I like to build my teams is around good pitching. I got really lucky with SP Raul Ruiz. I wasn't going to draft him I was going to take a 19 year old SP who I thought had better potential but my head scout recommended him and I took a flier on him and boy has it paid off. This is the first time in all of my years of OOTPB that I have had one of my prospects rise to the majors so fast and dominate at every level like he did. The 19 year old I was looking at was drafted 3 picks later by the Cleveland Indians and is still in AA while Ruiz is in the majors and is a legitimate CY Young contender. I also got lucky in the trade that brought SP Jose Robles in. He was basically a throw in because I needed an arm to fil my #5 starter spot in the rotation since I traded SP Francisco Romero. He has been the perfect #5 starter for me the last 2 years and is actually outperformong his ratings (he has ratings of 6/6/7 and to date this season is 8-0! on draft day 2011). The other pitcher I got in the Francisco Romero trade Sp Andy Simmons also looks like he could be a 1-2 guy and is in AAA right now. Look for him to make an appearance in the next year or two, he is still young only 21 so he still has some time left to develop. |

Jays Finish April In 1st Place
May 1st, 2010. The Toronto Blue Jays cruised to a 21-4 record in the first month of the 2011 season including winning the first 6 games of the regular season at home against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and New York Yankees. The Jays are currently sitting in 1st Place in the American League East with a comfortable 8.5 game lead on the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees. The Blue Jays have been getting great starting pitching as of late and have the best team ERA in all of baseball. GM Ryan Stewart gives the credit to the team Pitching Coach for their success "Martin Martinez the teams Pitching Coach was in Spring Training earily with most of our pitchers and he deserves a lot of the credit for getting the staff to where it is. He puts in a lot of hours in the video room with the pitchers going over mechanics and matchups and it shows as the starters were only tagged with 2 losses in the first month" Notable Blue Jays Performances: SP Kiminobu Hashimoto - 4-0 2.14 ERA SP Christian Jacobs - 4-1 2.21 ERA SP Bill Arkell - 3-0 2.87 ERA SP Raul Ruiz - 4-1 2.34 ERA SP Jose Robles - 3-0 3,34 ERA MR Sergio Vargas - 3-0 0.00 ERA in 11.2 Innings Pitched LF Felipe Montero - .358 4 HR 12 RBI SS Richard Evans - .327 3 HR 27 RBI C Hugh Edwards - .315 5 HR 13 RBI RF Alonzo Martinez - .307 1 HR 11 RBI 1B Nathan Wilder - .289 6 HR 12 RBI |

Blue Jays Add to Lead Now 17 Games Up in AL East
June 1st, 2011. The Toronto Blue Jays finished the month of may with another great record of 23-5 bringing their overall record to 44-9. They have also extended their lead on the Baltimore Orioles to 17 games and they lead the 3rd place New York Yankees by 21 games in the American League East. Once Again the story of the month was great pitching followed up by great hitting. 4 of the 5 Jays starters posted winning records in April with the only one who struggled being SP Bill Arkell who went 1-3 with a 3.99 ERA in 5 games. GM Ryan Stewart on his starter "Well it looks like his mechanics are a litte off. He is dropping his arm slot and it is causing his ball to flatten out and it is getting hit. He has been working closely with Martin Martinez and it looks like they may ave corrected the problem. He did pitch 8 innings in his last start of the month and got the win over Tampa Bay so it looks like he may have turned the corner" Notable Blue Jays Performances: SP Kiminobu Hashimoto - 6-0 1.84 ERA SP Christian Jacobs - 5-1 1.14 ERA SP Raul Ruiz - 4-0 0.96 ERA SP Jose Robles - 5-0 1.35 ERA CL Steve Perkins - 1-0 8 SV 1.74 ERA LF Felipe Montero - .352 7 HR 17 RBI CF Vitantonio Ardinghi - .343 5 HR 16 RBI C Hugh Edwards - .293 2 HR 14 RBI |

Blue Jays - Edwards Talking Extension?
June 1st, 2011. The Toronto Blue Jays are rumoured to be in talks with 29 year old C Hugh Edwards. The Jays catcher signed a 4 year $39,240,000 contract with the Jays in December 2007 after leaving the Philedelphia Phillies as a free agent. The contract that Edwards wants is rumoured to be in the 4 year $70,000,000 range paying him around $17,000,000 per season which is an $8,000,000 raise from his current salary. GM Ryan Stewart was asked about the possibility of an extension for Edwards "Absolutely we are going to be talking to him about a contract extension. When we traded C Lloyd Matthews in the offseason we decided that we were going to go with Edwards as our #1 guy. Now I cannot comment on the length of contract or the amount of money but I can say that we are definately in talks right now and hope to have this hammered out by the Allstar Break" The Jays catcher is hitting .304 with 7 HR and 27 RBIs in 2011. 2011 First Year Player Draft - Jays Pick 30th...Again
June 1st, 2011. The Toronto Blue Jays will select 30th in this years First Year Player Draft for the second year in a row. GM Ryan Stewart was asked about his teams draft position "Well I am kind of suprised that we only have 1 pick in the 1st round I thought that MR Millard Carter would be signed by someone and we would get a pick as compensation. He is a really good pitcher I am suprised he is still out there. In terms of picking 30th it is good because it means that you had the best record in baseball and won the Worl Series but it is bad in the sense that most of the top rated prospects are long gone byt this point. You really have to rely on good scouting and try to get maximum value for your picks. I think our scouting staff is one of the best in the league and our recent draft history will back me up on that" Toronto Blue Jays 1st-3rd Round Picks SP Alexis Stewart (1st Round) 19 Years Old, 6'1", 210 lbs Bats: L Throws: L St. Paul Highschool, Arlington Texas - Highschool (USHS) Potential Ratings:10/10/8 Fastball: 96-98 MPH Comment: A good looking young left hander with a plus fastball and good secondary stuff. He projects as a No 3-4 Starter in the Big leagues an was an Allstar 3 times for his Highschool team. In 2011 he was 6-3 with a 2.49 ERA with 7 BB And 102 K in 11 Starts Estimated Arrival in the Majors: I like to be very cautious with young arms and I usually don't draft a highschool pitcher with my first round picks but my scouts were so high on him I couldn't pass him up. I would say he will be in the system for at least 4-5 years before he gets his shot at the big club. He really needs to work on his control as it is rated 1 right now. I am looking forward to watching him develop. C Chris Davidson (2nd Round) 19 Years Old, 6'1", 205 lbs Bats: R Throws: R Hickory Hills Highschool, Illinois - Highschool (USHS)Potential Ratings:8/7/10/7/5 Rating @ C: 5 Outfield Arm: 6 Comment: A powerhitting Cwho hit .333 with 11 HR 40 RBI in 2011. He projects as a cleanup hitter in big leagues if he can continue to hit with power. He needs to work on his contact and plate dicipline or he may struggle against tougher pitching in the Professional ranks. He is not a great defensive C and I may try him at 1B to see how he works out there. Estimated Arrival in the Majors: With his current ratings I think he may struggle the first few years adjusting to Professional Baseball and because he is only 19 he won't be rushed. I think an estimated date for him to reach the Majors is between 2015-2016 if he can develop to his full potential. SP Michael Montgomery (3rd Round) 22 Years Old, 6'5", 210 lbs Bats: L Throws: L Columbia University - College (NCAA) Potential Ratings: 7/9/8 Fastball: 91-93 MPH Comment: A bit of a project player he pitched well for the Lions in 2011 going 7-3 with a 3.13 ERA but he walked 25 and struckout only 15. He doesn't throw as hard as my 1st round pick and I don't think his potential is as high but I believe he could be a servicable 5th/spot starter in the Majors. He really needs to work on his control and will likely start out in Rooki Ball with Pulaski to gain some confidance. Estimated Arrival in the Majors: 2014-2015. Depending on how he progresses maybe earlier. He is a little more mature than my 1st round pick and has pitched at the college level so he has experience against better hitters. A lot will depend on wether or not he can cut down his walks allowed. Toronto Draft Summary: Total # of Picks: 15 Total # of Pitchers Selected: 8 (5 SP, 3 CL) Total # of Position Players Selected: 7 (3 3B, 2 OF, 1 C, 1 SS) Total # of College Players Selected: 9 (4 SP, 2 CL, 1 3B, 1 SS, 1 OF) Total # Of Highschool Players Selected: 6 (1 SP, 1 CL, 1 C, 2 SB, 1 OF) Last edited by ryan008; 10-31-2007 at 08:08 AM. |

June 1st, 2011. Felipe Montero's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Toronto Left Fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the first 2 months of the season. Montero is 22 years old and ready to take teh American League by storm. And that's exactly what the rookie did in may as his whirlwind month garnered him the Rookie of the month award. Montero really shook things up around the league this past month with these statistics: .352 7 HR 17 RBIs and scored 27 runs. In 2011 the rookie has put together an impressive season with numbers that lead all most all ofensive categories for all American League Rookies. He is hitting .355 with 11 HR and 29 RBI. |

Edwards will Stay in Toronto for 4 more Years
June 10th, 2011. The Toronto Blue Jays announced today that they have come to terms with a new 4 year contract extension for C Hugh Edwards. The contract is for 4 years at $63,000,000. It averages out to $15,750,000 per season. This is nearly a $7 million dollar a year raise from the contract he signed as a free agent with Toronto in 2007. GM Ryan Stewart on the signing "We probably overpaid a little to keep him here but I believe he is worth it. His statistics have gotten better each year he has been with the organization and he is just now heading into his prime and we think his best years are still ahead of him" In 2011 Edwards is hitting .293 with 7 HR and has 27 RBIs. |
