Shaq feeling the HEAT?
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1836585
The Lakers, intent on trading a disgruntled Shaquille O'Neal, might make a deal with the Heat that would include Lamar Odom, Brian Grant and probably a first-round draft pick, sources told the Riverside Press-Enterprise for Thursday's editions. The team is considering a handful of the 17 or 18 offers it has received for the center, the paper reports. "Just like the coach deal with Phil [Jackson] being let go, Dr. Buss thinks it's time to deal Shaq," a team source told the paper. The team is close to replacing Jackson with coach Rudy Tomjanovich. ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher reports that the deal to hire Tomjanovich is basically finished, with negotiations now centering on who will be on the coaching staff. At the same time, free agent Kobe Bryant met with four teams, including the Lakers and the Clippers. Tomjanovich tried to contact O'Neal, the paper reported, and Shaq left a message in response. "I just feel terrible for Rudy because I wanted to play for him," O'Neal said, according to the paper. "But I ain't coming back there." Sources told the Press-Enterprise that O'Neal's representatives have shot down potential deals. The Kings, one of the teams O'Neal is willing to play for, reportedly backed away from talks With Wade, Jones, Butler and SHAQ in the middle. Thats one hell of a team.

If I had Shaq and I was offered; Odom, Grant, Butler and next years first round pick I still wouldn't do it.

nobody is going to pay market value for Shaq, and if the lakers don't trade him he will sit out. he has made his money he no longer wants to play for Buss

Sacto needs to straighten up there act and open up there mind! They were better without C-Webb, IMO, can do without Christie, and use either or Bibby/Jackson plus picks. He's worth the investment, as you'll probably get a title in return.
Plus, it would be cool to see Shaq play for the Queens |

Lakers said they want Butler as well. But Heat said they will not give up him as well as the others. SO i dont see this happening.

Now, anyone got the list of those 17 or 18 offers? The number of rumors I've heard is definitely less than 10.

dude, it wasn't C-web coming back, it was losing Jackson at the same time C-web came back that sent the team into a tail spin. without c-web they would have been bounced in the first round. He was the only guy to play for crap in the playoffs. Peja vanished down the stretch and in the playoffs that was another problem, the guy can shoot but is softer than a pillow. hopefully with the summer off C-web's knee will fully heal. The reason Shaq won't work in Sac is because he likes to hog the ball, ball hogs don't fare well in sac's system.

I was watching Sportscenter yesterday and one of the basketball guys that the trade couldnt happen b/c of Heat lack of cap room or something of that nature. They would've also had to give up Caron Butler, but Miami would not do that.

Shaq a ballhog? Tough for a center to be a ballhog, I can see a blackhole (Kevin Willis) but a ballhog?

ESPN.com is reporting that Shaq has approved the trade to Miami in exchange for Butler, Odom, and Grant.

Ugh. This is pretty much the prototype of the "doesn't help either team" trade. Miami is not ready for prime time, and the Lakers are now set to give Kobe the sucky supporting cast he seems to want so desperately.

Meanwhile, the Lakers must think they just guaranteed Kobe will stay, so they can field a lineup of... G-Payton G-Bryant (trial notwithstanding) F-Odom F-B. Grant C-?? (Free agent? Dampier, maybe?) which won't scare anyone out West. Miami and LA just look like 2 teams that have no chance to get past the 2nd round. |

Kobe, however, is going to find things tough going if he stays out of jail.

What you say is true. I guess it's fitting, since I put most of the blame for the current Lakers mess squarely on Kobe's head.

I think Shaq is getting overrated. Yes, he is still the most dominant big man in the game, [i]when he wants to be.[/b] Every year he comes into camp out of shape. His scoring dropped 6 points this year. He's 32 years old, and not getting any younger. Games 3 and 5 in the Finals he didn't look like his old self (albeit Game 1 and 4 were very very good). If I'm the Heat, I don't trade the core of a team that almost made it to the conference finals and should be even better this year (with Wade getting better) to get 2 years out of Shaq.
Here is a good article by some ESPN writer I've never heard of.
