What's the Best Way to Pre-Sim a League History?

I am interested in pre-simming a number of years to create a history for my league in OOTP6. I have tried this before but the game would periodically stop simming to give me certain messages or when playoff time arrived. I could never just walk away and let the game sim without interruption.

What's the best method and settings to pre-sim a league history, where I can walk away from the computer for a few hours and pre-sim 20 years or so without interruptions?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Go to schedule (on the toolbar) and then go to sim options (far right drop down on the toolbar). Turn everything off, no notifications for no hitters, injury, etc. Set all teams to cpu so trades don't pop up for your team.

The only thing that could cause a problem after that is what year you start your simming. If you are simming pre-2004 (i.e. historical) then you will get a popup every offseason on how to handle rookie imports. If you are simming post 2004 (i.e. modern day) then the game won't stop and will automatically generate rookies and you can sim overnight without pause and have 50-100 seasons done in the morning.

That was true prior to OOTP6. Now, if you start a league pre-2004, it WILL ask you if you want to import real rookies. If you answer no, it will ask if you EVER want to import real rookies. If you answer no again, you will never get that popup window again. I found this out starting my fictional league in 1990

Another concern is the record books. The first year, everyone is a rookie, so rookie records will be forever inflated unless you clear them out before starting year two.

I also found it necessary/fun to occasionally nudge the league totals around to keep the league from deviating too far from the stats I like to see. I nudged them four times, I think, in my 100-year-sim-for-history.

Yes. All sim notifications off. All teams to CPU. Hang around for the first season and off-season and when season two is ready to go, clear the rookie records and sim XXX years. Come back to catch the Import Rookies? question, answer "no" twice, and go to bed.

One other thing to keep in mind... If you sim multiple seasons at once, you lose the chance to use Catobase. You need a saved league file at the end of each season for that.

Actually, you can sim multiple seasons and still use CatoBase, but you will lose some functionality. CatoBase will import previously simmed seasons the first time you do an import, but it won't be able to track fielding stats and splits and stuff, because those stats disappear for each player at the end of each season.

I think it's worthwhile to run CatoBase at the end of every season, just before "Proceed to next season," but YMMV.

Damn . . . I hadn't considered that.

Thanks for pointing it out . . . but then, I guess if I'm starting a fictional league and guys like HIdeki Matsui and Ichiro can be eligible for the "Rookie of the Yewar Award" in real life (something I have a BIG problem with) . . .
