Possibly dumb question regarding in-game emails
I'm doing an email league with a buddy on OOTP6 - just wondering, is there any way to (through the back door) send him messages? I mean obviously it wouldn't be difficult to create an email with a text file, but is there any way to manually make the computer recognize it and display the message to your friend in his email in-box? Just curious, it would surprise the hell out of him.
(if it's a dumb question or one that's already been asked elsewhere, please feel free to assault me... I did a search and couldn't find anything like this.) |

Guess it was dumb, but I will still bump once, just in case.

Interesting question - I'm at work right now, otherwise I'd go give it a try. And just so you know, I don't think I've heard anyone else ask about that before- it may be dumb, but at least it's uniquely dumb

I think you should be able to do this. Analyze one of the .txt files in the ‘Messages’ folder; copy it and preserve its relevant fields, to make sure it conforms to the pattern of internal emails that the game generates; add your own ingredients to its contents, and it should work.

I'd think it should work too.
For instance, here is one text file currently in the messages folder. (It's called Message13.txt) Status of Greg Dobbs Dear Sir, Greg Dobbs has an AVG of .224 at AA San Antonio! That's definitely no good sign. I suggest demoting him soon. Regards, Scouting Director Obviously that would be very easy to duplicate. However the devil - as usual - is in the details (and I don't know much about programming) There must be something in the dat files or whatever for my particular team that tells the game to look for that message and have it accessible to my email box from inside the game.... if that makes sense. Just trying to figure out what that might be. hahaha uniquely dumb. That should be my avatar sub-line. Helli |

Aah, I see it now - there's a dat file called messages.dat.
You'd have to create a utility for doing in-game emails between players.. Might be useful for leagues and things of that nature. |

This is an interesting idea. There are several potential uses for this, if we can edit messages.dat and then create and direct commish-created emails to online league owners through the game itself.
Then again, there are perils, and excessive manipulation of game files invites problems. Yet the freedom to do this might have benefits. |

My investigation into this shows that it’s not easily done, and it’s improbable that a commish could turn this into a handy system.
It was a great idea though. |
