Inexperienced (to OOTP) GM looking for league.

Greetings all. I've recently gotten 'bit' by the OOTP bug and picked up OOTP6. Already I can see it's just about exactly the game I was hoping for. I'd love to join an online league but my qualifications are somewhat minimal:

1. Inexperienced with OOTP in general (less than a week).
2. My only real 'GM' type experience online has been with fantasy baseball leagues. I remained active in them even if my team sucked, and I would certainly do so in a career league as well.
3. The only real glitch is there will be times when I'll be away from my computer for close to two weeks at a time during the year. This year it looks like that'll only happen near September/October. During that time I would be completely unable to run the team, which I could either give control of to a friend who I can probably convince to get the game, the CPU, or whatever other provisions are in place in the league.

I have little preference as to what type of league, though I probably would prefer one with finances turned off and not in modern times. I would also prefer a well established league, but again it's not a necessity.

Thanks in advance.

Just look through the board for leagues that are advertising. You'll want to find a league that sims one week at a time and only 2-3 times per week. This way when you're gone for two weeks you're missing at most a month and a half of a season. An experienced commissioner can use instructions you leave via e-mail to keep your franchise running.

You may want to play with the game a little bit on your own just to learn how the different features work. Then joining a league with experienced GMs isn't very hard.

A word of warning. You'll join one league, but before you know it you'll be in a couple more. It's addictive.

I only purchased v.5 in December. In January I joined my first online league. Now I'm in 5.

Have fun.

By the way CIBL (1980's) has one opening and Heroes of Yesteryear has a few (1970's). The links are in my sig line.

tward13: Thanks for the info. SIGs have been disabled but I was able to track them down. Already the game feels pretty natural to me, and I'm working through a season in a fictional dead-ball era league.

I think I'll take your advice and wait a bit, as much because I'm noticing at least 3/4 of the leagues still require OOTP5 and I have the latest version. That'll give me time to make a list of leagues that seem to fit what I want most and watch for openings, go on the waiting list, etc when/if they go OOTP6.

Thanks for the advice.

Good point. I'm playing OOTP6 on my own. Many leagues will be switching over as they complete their current seasons.

If you like deadball you may want to get on a waiting list for Legends of the Diamond. I'm in that one and it moves at a leisurely pace. Still way back in June 1905.

Great looking oldtime themed site too.
