2 > Yes, I would be pissed if I gave someone 7 million dollars that didnt live up to that type of contract. Do you know who I would be pissed at though? Myself for making a poor decision. The accountability of a bad signing goes to the organization, not with the player who just signs the contract that is offered to him. I am not saying that Cleveland should not try to renogotiate the contract. I have never said that. 3 > That was a miscalculation on the Browns fault, its not Tim Couch's fault. Hell, I can sign Doug Johnson to a 10 year, 200 million dollar deal, proclaim him to be the franchise, and when he fails to be more than a below average QB, say it is HIS fault for not living up to expectations, and that it is HIS fault he makes so much money. Why would it be his fault when I am the one that made a poor judgement in signing him in the first place, and also made a poor judgement in giving him that much money in the first place? Doug Johnson is just being Doug Johnson. Just because I overpay him doesn't make him a better player, nor should I expect him to become a better player just because I pay him that much money. |

Your doug Johnson comparison was crazy. IN your example, you would be OVERPAYING for a player. The Browns did not Over pay Couch at the time of his Signing. Couch just never Lived up to his potential, and thus never lived up to his 7 million a year contract.
I'm done with this. 7 million a year for a over rated back up QB is absurd. I'm done, peace

Could be worse, you could overpay for an old 37 year old starter, piss off your starting SS and watch him sign with the Yankees, or complain because your team couldn't trade for A-rod because they didn't want to pay him all the money that Texas overpaid for him.

I heard that his dad told a local newspaper that his son was going to sign with the Bucs.
When watching ESPN News 2 days ago, they said he would be getting a backup job in Tampa. I was stunned to hear that. Garcia i think is alot better than brad johnson. i know this doesn't mean anything anymore, but wouldn't you wanna play for a team that will make the playoffs in the bucs.

My point all along has been that I do not think anyone can say an athlete does not 'earn' the money that the team agreed to pay him. It's the team's fault for investing that money into a player that is not worthy of it is all. Just like a bad free agent signing. If you bring in someone that does not produce equally to what you think they should be for the money you are paying, then you need to start spending your money smarter on players that will end up being worth the money. That was my point with the over-the-top Doug Johnson example. Regardless if it is a FA or a draft pick, there will be big busts. Some players just are not that good. If you draft or sign a not very good player and give them a big contract, then the team is the one responsible for that, not the player. The player is responsible for how he plays, whether he is good or not. But he cannot make a team overpay him. It's a decision on the team's part to how much they pay each player. |

I'm not the only one that has either. I've seen you post 3-4 times in a single thread. So just relax buddy, its just a OOTP forum.TheRaven: I know your not trying to piss me off. I wasn't trying to piss you off either. I understand your points, and hopefully Cleveland can pick up come Talent. BTW whats Green's status? He is going to be able to play this year right? He killed me on my Fantasy Team last season

No no idiot, in your post you said you were done, and here you are posting again. I never said you couldn't post again, I just knew you would. And I was right about Garciaparra, just watch what he does this offseason. You should really think if Schilling is so ready to win another World Series, why he didn't take a pay cut to come play with the Red Sox so they can trade for A-Rod? Hmmm?

haha no no idiot? I said i was done posting about the Tim Couch/7 mill a year debate with TheRaven. Never said i wouldn't post again if i wanted to on a seperate post in this thread.
![]() In Baseball today, i wouldn't at all be surprised to see nomar sign with New York. IF he is a free Agent. Thats a Big IF. Boston has strong hopes that they work a deal out with Nomar. As for schilling...I dont care. Arod is playing for the yanks, i'm tired of talking about the arod ****. Arod being in New York will only make the Riveraly that much better with Boston and New York. It will be alot of fun to watch

You know the part in the book and film version or "Big Trouble" by Dave Barry? You know, where the hitmen are listening to the radio and the sports talk guy is calling out Gator fans because they call when they win, but when they don't win they don't call in. The next caller calls in and says that he is a Gator fan and he is in fact calling in, but that is all that he is saying. They go on for several minutes like that. This is what this thread is becoming....
