Freezing or game screen not refreshing

Ok i play the game on winxp and in non-full screen mode. Sometimes i go afk for a while after minimizing the game, then i come back and the game is either frozen or not refreshing the screen. All i see is whatever is in the background of my computer, like another program that is running or my desktop. It is getting annoying because i manage all my games and have to start them over. Anyone else have this problem?

How much RAM do you have? How much free HD space and also whatelse is running when this happens?

I have the same problem. I'm running Windows 2K Pro. I have 512 MB RAM and 17 GB of free disk space. Usually the only things running in the background are a browser or two, Trillian (chat program), and Outlook.

If the PC goes into "sleep" mode that does usually cause a problem otherwise I wouldn't think that it would.

Screen savers also can wreak havoc with the screen in this manner.

Ahh... the screen saver. Maybe that's it.

This was a common issue when OOTp4 was first released - here's some info from the manual:

Problem: The game I was playing froze when my computer went into sleep/hibernate mode, and now I can't exit the application.
Possible Solution: You should either disable power management when playing Out of the Park Baseball, or, save your game and exit the application before your computer enters power saving mode. If you cannot exit the game from within the application, use the Windows Task Manager to stop the application.

That advice still applies. Also, I don't believe you can keep the ootp app open in XP while logging out for another home user - same video issue applies to all of these scenarios.

Hmm my computer is not set for safe mode but i did find out why it happens. When my screen saver was activated and i returned to my computer, i encountered the glitch again. So yeah the screen saver does cause the game to foul up.

This works for me.... When I minimize the screen and then maximize it, I see the border of the game but nothing inside the border. But if I move my mouse inside of the border and click on that area, it refreshes the screen and I'm ready to go again.

Same problem

I have the same problem as stated above. I get the background with a semi-transparent box as the outline of the program. I have tried clicking in the area of the program, but my screen does not refresh. I am running Windows 2000 with SP4. My video drivers are current and I have DirectX 9.0b. Any ideas? I could really use the help. It happens whenever I switch programs and the OOTP screen gets covered. Once I close the other program I can no longer see OOTP. I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL and shutdown OOTP and then restart. I do not have this problem on Windows XP. This is with OOTP version 5.14.

Thanks,

Rich

This is a system specific issue as I (and many others) can max/min OOTP all day long and never have a problem. How much RAM do you have? Alot of background programs running? Does this happen after a fresh boot?

I have 1GB of RAM total and approximately 800MB free. I have 3GB of hard drive space free. Like I said, on the same box with Windows XP (dual boot) it works without any problems - it also runs a bit faster as well. I also have an NVidia video card with the latest drivers (53.03). I did try older drivers (45.03) and it did not make a difference.

Thanks,

Rich

Video refresh issues

Steve, I am running Windows 2000 with SP4. Is there something that can be done to fix this problem?

Thanks,

No. When I first open the game, everything plays and works fine. If I open another application (ie. Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, etc.) over it, then when I close the second application, OOTP is just an outline of a box with the background showing through. I have to close OOTP through task manager and restart it to get it to work again. The same is true if I minimize it to the taskbar and then maximize it again. This all works fine on the same PC if I run it on Windows XP SP1.

Sounds like a video card or driver issue. You have updated drivers? How much video memory do you have?

I have 64MB of video memory and the latest v53.03 video drivers from NVidia. I thought it may be the video drivers as well, so I went backward and installed version 45.03, but that didn't help either.

I have this same problem, and I have tried it on 3 different computers. A dell laptop, a desktop with Win2000 server and a GeForce Ti4200 AGP card and another dell desktop with WinXP and PCI graphics. I've also upgraded the first desktop with a new motherboard, processor and memory...still no change.

Steve, can you ctl-alt-del while in the game, go to task manager and still see the game?

Chris
