Draft Class Missing Players

I think I may have had a similar issue in a previous version but I am in a historical league and the 2023 draft class is only populated with 88 players. I have reloaded from June 30th a couple of times hoping it would magically correct itself but no luck. Is there a setting hidden somewhere where I can check a box and fix this?

As un update, the 2024 draft only makes 30 players available which kind of sucks when you have the 31st pick. The mock draft shows 224 players but where are they and how do I make them available to the actual draft? Also, many of the available players have missing height and/or weight.


Is there an online directory or web site where one can download updated/fixed draft classes?

Unfortunately I don´t know if this is by design or a bug. If Jeff looks into this I´m sure he will tell us if he/we will need to change anything.

I ran a quick historical simulation starting in 2020/21.

Number of Draft Selections in the game
2021 = 224
2022 = 224
2023 = 90

There are only 90 players available for selection in the 2023 draft pool. However, there are 223 players taken in the mock draft.


So, something looks wrong.


[edit] Another thing I noticed is that #211 D. Badger and #213 D. Floyd (see screenshot) are both already under contract to Arizona and Boston until 2024/25 respectively.

Pretty much the exact same thing I am seeing. I could live with a three round draft as a one-off but limiting the 2024 draft to just 30 players impacts the game, imo. I'm hoping there is a copy/paste solution that will be easy.

Yep i've got to 2023 and there's 23 players available to draft. Hopefully fake players will kick in afer 25/26, i can deal with a couple of years ofd low numbers. I have lowered draft age to 17. First time i've played historical and got to this era since FHM 9. I couldn't get past the real year then. Will kick on and see what happen in future years.

Edit: 2025 the game generates fake players. Hopefully you will see this in your games as well. I had changed my darft age to 17 from 18, so this makes sense. Would be good if you could always have 200 plus players available but its not too bad.

That is the frustrating part for me: in 2023 and 2024, the players are actually generated and if you pick some rando who was drafted in the 7th round in real life, you can find him as a FA and now 19 years old. So the game has them but for some reason makes them unavailable for the actual draft.

I'm totally good with 2025 having fictional players and part of that is fun since you don't have historical knowledge on how they actually performed IRL.

Another interesting note is that when I did run the 2024 draft, or what there was of it, Vancouver had the #1 overall pick and selected Kieron Walton over Celebrini. Walton went in the 6th round IRL.

After reviewing the mock draft in 2024, there are indeed 224 players but ~190 of them range in age 21-35 which puts them outside of the age brackets for the standard draft. I googled random players in this age range and it looks like they are real players but I don't know why they would be used as filler? I would think 2023 and 2024 would be filled out with the correct players since the game was released in 2025.

I looked into the code and saw, what is happening: basically during import of players the game will ignore players that have no career stats up until 2024/25, so e.g. Bedard and Celebrini get imported but Cole Eiserman, Adam Jiricek or Sam Dickinson don´t.

Would it be possible to code the game so fake palyers get generated at 16? otherwise the option for draft age change younger than 17 isn't worth it?

From my understanding that should not be needed. I see no reason why we ignore this players. I asked Jeff directly, maybe he answers now so we should wait now.

After historical hits modern day, it changes into a semi-custom game - so fictional players will appear in future draft classes.

That is true and it is happening but this thread is about the problem of small drafts in the years 22/23 and 23/24 (which still should have real players). I was able to see why the problem is, now it is on Jeff to tell us if the possible fix works or would lead to other problems.

This truly needs to be fixed. A massive bug in my eyes. A modern day historical save gets ruined.
Jeff have been very silent for some time after that last patch. Maybe some other devs could step in and check why this error happens.

The lack of public comms is certainly concerning compared to how things used to be, unless there's been some sort of responsibility reshuffle that we're not privy to. Either way, it's a shame because it's the consumers who are left scratching their heads about what's going on with these in game issues.
