How are people doing this?

One thing you can do if you are getting a lot of duplicates is "don't open your packs until more new cards are released". The disadvantage is you won't get duplicate live cards to participate in the next live card update. I usually keep all cards x5-x9 (where x is a number between 5 and 9 inclusively) and quicksell the rest. If you pay attention to real MLB you can do much better.

On the first few days I sold just about every live card and raised enough points to buy the 3 perfect icons I didn't own for 25K each So, that's 4 100's right there and I pulled 2 more historical ones, then I got distracted by Eve Online, so I'm in collect packs and don't open them mode right now, or I would have a roster of 6 perfects and the rest historical diamonds by now.

You've got 11 more months to get 100% 105's!

This is the difficulty in opening too many packs right now. Way too many duplicates already.

There were about 2500 cards in the opening day game. If they didn't give you lots of low-level dupes in packs, you would end up owning every card by opening 400 or so packs. And every time they dropped a couple of dozen new cards, you could open a handful of packs and again have all the cards.

Wouldn't be much of a game, now, would it?

I'm in my 2nd week of HD with $20 spent on launch day (made playoffs each week).

By no means am I whale, I just ripped packs and flipped early on when it was the most beneficial.

100s I have are: C Mauer, 1B McGriff, 3B Wright, OF Speaker, OF Dykstra, Ohtani (not on roster), Judge (not on roster), SP Dice K, SP Pascual, SP Hubbell, SP Sweeney, SP Buehler, RP Hoffman, RP Suter, RP Hader, RP Betances and RP Miller.

All that to say, it is possible to have a fairly decent team early without spending a ton of money, but I have clearly put in some time.


EDIT: I'm patiently waiting the app launch as I work full time and can't check the game until I get home in the evenings. So this isn't a WFH byproduct.

That's kind of my guess on that; I can't speak to any one player specifically, and what any team is doing is on a case-by-case basis with how they play.

As to your Missions question, the players you lock to complete the mission are locked to your account, and cannot be sold. However, you mentioned the 175 limit in the Reserve Roster - you can deactivate players into the Inactive Roster to free up some space. Not every card you own is going to be on the Reserve Roster.

17 100's? On $20? holy Cow. Did you get someone who sold for hundreds of thousands?

Some people find a really good card early that they can sell on the card shop to a whale for lots of PP. 150K PP and you're pretty much finishing the live missions, plus you're getting 75+ packs through those missions.

On launch, Live cards resell for a lot bc some are trying to collect all the live missions asap. Even the bad packs were essentially paying for themselves early on (cards in the pack were selling for more than the 1k pp the pack costs). So I literally just sold and kept ripping packs those first few days. I did pull a few live perfects that I sold for 60-80k and re-invested in more packs. I even sold my pre-order 100 Cobb in order to buy more packs. A lot of my 100s are mission rewards that I completed when the prices started going down.

I've done this exact method the past few launches with similar success with variance based on how lucky you get early on with live diamonds/perfects.

Edit: I also put together an iron tourney team that generates some packs and always fill up my PD slots which in combination with twitch drops nets additional packs that stack up over time.

As for Live cards going forward, I have time to play PT or time to pay attention to MLB, but not both. So all my focus is on historic.


It's a slow grind. Over 500 packs opened now. Maybe 1 upgrade per hundred. No perfects. No useful variant. 8 90s historics but I think all but 2 are from mission reward diamond packs.


Hope the RNG better soon because I refuse to buy my way out of this hole.

Except there are daily live card tourneys that (along with Perfect Draft) basically financed my PT26 team (25 105's and one 104). You need to own EVERY live card eventually for the PT Elite missions in late October.

With almost every live card needed for live missions, I am not sure there will be any left for an elite set.

There are going to be hundreds between now and the end of the year. you've been here long enough to know how live updates work
