Creating a Champions League Tournament WITHOUT Associations

I have a pretty sprawling universe, and have a three year cycle I want to do, with a Champions League, then a Regional Nations Cup, then a World Baseball Classic on a three year cycle. Setting this up for the latter two has been pretty simple, but I'm having a bit more trouble with the Champions League - I can do it, but I have to manually input the champions each time around, for multiple tournaments. Is there any way to do this so that they automatically populate?

I realize this is sort of what Associations are for, but there isn't really an option to do Association playoffs every x number of years, which is what Tournaments offers.

Any advice is welcome!
