Hello all! Just pre ordered and am hoping to be able to set up the league I always hoped for and am looking for any suggestions to make it happen. I played ootp a ton from v10 - v14 so I know a lot has changed since then.
I will start in 1900 but with the modern day set up and the finances I lay out below using entirely fictional players. I know way back when a lot of people said the initial players created were usually the best so you should sim a bunch of seasons to let them age out and then erase league history and start there. Is that still the case? So let’s tackle finances. I am looking for a league based on parity. Something similar to the NFL where the revenue sharing lets small market teams thrive. I will be instituting a salary cap and maybe a salary floor if possible. I would like superstars to make around $25m a year. I’m thinking a hard salary cap around $100m - $125m. Does this cap number seem about right? What other financial numbers would you set in order for all teams to have around the same amount of money available? I would like completely neutral park factors and will be setting every stadiums dimensions to something similar to Kaufman Stadium where the dimensions are the same to both left and right field. I would like statistics and the way pitching staffs are handled to look similar to the period of 1989-1993. I’m thinking I will use 1993 as my basis. I have a schedule made by LGO that will rotate inter league play similar to the way the NFL handles it. I want all players to come through the amateur draft, including international players. Is that possible? Way back when I always played without coaches because myself and a lot of others around here felt like it gave the human an unfair advantage. Is that still the case or does the AI handle coaching staffs better? Is there anything else anyone can think of to make this Even Steven league I have in my head a reality? Anything any settings to turn on or off to help the AI compete with a human? How are the aging modifiers now? I would love any input or ideas for this returning player. Thanks in advance!

You don't need to alter ball park dimensions. Just hit the button that sets all park factors to neutral. Park dimensions are cosmetic not functional.

Thanks Brad! I did know this at one time but totally forgot the dimensions were cosmetic. Thanks for reminding me!

If you're starting in 1900, a salary cap of 100 million or more isn't very realistic. You can control each team's finances if you play in "Commissioner" mode. In my fictional game, I started in 1931 with the actual league salaries from that era. I simmed ahead 40 years and then took over a team and started from there. I'm now in 1989 and have a league salary cap of 15 million. Top players in my league make around 1.1 million. |

I don't use financials in my games, but generally speaking when I or anyone is looking for something specific to get out of their game and is asking for advice, the best piece is to start off with a test. Don't immerse yourself with uniforms, ballparks, logos & so forth before you have tested out settings to be sure your game is headed where you want it.
IOW, you wouldn't want to spend hours on setup that is unrelated to your the finance aspects of your game, only to move forward a year or two and find out that the financial aspects are nowhere near what you want them to be...

You used to be able to go in and set what you wanted the financials to be no matter what the year by tinkering with national media contracts and such as well as assign how much a super star asks for, an all- star player, a bench player etc. Is that still possible?

Yeah that's definitely my plan. 😊 I just used to spend soooooo much time testing it felt like that was all I did so was hoping someone might have done something similar to give me a good starting point 😊 Man I wish I had my old computer so I could get my old templates 😂

Yes, this is still possible. Don't worry - all the tinkering abilities are still available.
