Spring Training Games

My team does not need for ST games to set up my roster. I find for my team even simming all the games accomplishes very little. My question is how would not having ST games affectt computer run teams? Would it be so bad to hurt them, or does the game adjust for that?

Shaking off the rust and (if desired) learning a new position seem to be the noted positives of ST. Rust (and just to make sure your player doesn't immediately break again) probably a good reason to also do a rehab assignment after an injury too.

In both cases, better to have that happen in exhibition games, rather than in the regular season.

And I guess if you feel there is no downside to skipping ST, I guess the same would apply to AI teams. Either way, you're on the same playing field? Up to you.

Also, you can have your entire 40-Man gets some reps, along with any non-roster invites, during ST, to gauge the depth of your system.

Personally, I would go with ST games. But again, always your call.

I love Spring Training games for lots of reasons, so I am hardly an impartial observer. In OOTP I find it useful to identify young players who deserve to make the club, and also to determine the proper minor league level for guys who don't. But it's a ton of work to set the schedules in Florida and Arizona, and to get a look at everybody on a roster of fifty. Maybe some split-squad games thrown in would help? Plus I like to finish with the geographical rivalries: Yanks/Mets, Dodgers/Angels, Cubs/White Sox, even Miami/Tampa Bay. It can be a useful test of development lab work. I also like the frantic dealing that takes place when rosters are cut down to 28 (in my sim, until May 1), and guys without options present problems. I also enjoy having MLB teams face off with their AAA teams, too. All good. All labor-intensive to set up, though.

Thanks for the replies. I tried not running ST, and got wonky numbers the first month of the season. So it seems it needs to be run. One other time a few versions ago I also tried no ST and that time there was no impact on performance.
