Lightbulb Introducing the OOTP Wiki

Welcome to the new OOTP Wiki

Going forward, we have decided to move on from our previous online manual, and have decided to change over to a wiki-style setup. This will be easier to update, and will also allow community contributions to be able to more easily keep it up to date more reliably than in the past.

Anyone can access the manual here: wiki.ootpdevelopments.com
The current iteration should include virtually all the information from the previous online manual, and include some items updated for OOTP 25. We know the previous manual was getting out of date, and it will still be a process to update, but we hope this setup will encourage further contribution.

If you wish to help contribute, you can sign up for an account and submit edits to pages.

Why a wiki?
Wikis allow easy access and editing, rather than the tougher to maintain system we used to use for the online manual. The aim will be to keep adding pieces to the wiki over time to update with new systems.

Why is <blank> missing?
We have mostly imported in the information from the old manual, and are adding to it as we proceed. It's a full process to import, edit, update, and add new information, so we will continue to add to it over time.

How can I help?
The most useful aspect of a wiki is easy editing by anyone. You can create an account by following the link on the main page, which will open up access to editing tools, where you can submit revisions. You will need to confirm your email when signing up to have access to the editor.
All revisions need to be approved to appear for regular users. We will approve revisions periodically to ensure that the most recent changes appear for all users. If you make a change, it may take a few days to be approved and show up for everyone.

How do I navigate the wiki?
The main sections are linked on the side of the page by default. If you are on a page, you will see the main sections listed on the side as well. You can also use the search tool at the top if you want to find a specific topic.

What topics does the wiki cover?
Eventually, we aim to have it cover all the options in the game. The main purpose obviously is to explain the various pages and settings, but over time more details will be added.

Thanks for everyone for your patience in this transition to this new method. We hope that over time this will be a valuable resource as you play the game.

The OOTP Team

Thank you to the people jumping in and catching typos and also updating things as we learn more about the new features. Cwess and Jdawg thanks for finding my mistakes and fixing them! Thank you JudgeGio for adding in the schedules page!

If anyone sees a page missing from the old manuals, please feel free to copy and paste them and if you know of any updates since the last manual, please update.

Only we as a community can make our wiki the best as it can be!

"Rule 5 Draft Roster Rules
There are a number of roster rules relating to Rule 5 drafts:
A team that wants to select a player in the Rule 5 draft must have at least one spot open on its secondary roster.
A player selected in the Rule 5 draft must remain on the selecting team's active roster or disabled list for the entire season.
A player who was drafted in the Rule 5 draft can be waived. If he is claimed, then the player must remain on the claiming team's active roster for the remainder of the season.
A player selected in the Rule 5 draft can be traded. The team that receives the player must keep the player on its active roster for the remainder of the season.
A player selected in the Rule 5 draft must spend 90 days on the active roster. This rule prevents teams from picking players and then dumping them on the disabled list for an entire season to avoid using an active roster spot. This rule can extend into the following season if necessary."

In OOTP, you cannot waive a player selected in the rule 5 as the wiki states

But you can waive a rule 5 claimed player. I just tested it and like stated, they are still considered a rule 5 under the editor and if claimed, must remain on the claimed teams active roster, but if they are released, they then head to their original team. They can not be Waived and DFA'd but they can be flat out waived. But if they clear waivers and no one claims them, they remain on your active roster.

Just like they can be traded and if the traded team does not keep them on their active roster and releases them, they also will go back to their original team.

Edit: I created a new manager as the Pirates and even claimed Diaz. He is now on the Pirates and still considered a rule 5 player and Detroit Tigers is still his team he will be returned to IF the Pirates release him.
