Barry was incredibly exciting…but I feel a few words on behalf of one Vincent Edward "Bo" Jackson are necessary.
(Nowhere near everything Bo accomplished…in four demi-seasons, whereas Barry played a full decade.) |

Never saw Vince play. Barry was a gift from heaven.

I wouldn't put Edmonds in the same class because his best plays didn't come w/defenders trying to prevent him from succeeding.
The funny thing is I have never seen Gretzky highlight video. Admittedly I am late to the game of hockey in comparison to other sports. But you would think I would have fell into one by now.

Edmonds made some spectacular plays but the degree of difficulty is meh in comparison. Meanwhile.......... I went & looked a nearly 30 minute highlight film of the Great One. Is it my imagination or was there more space in the early 80's? I've never seen so many goals were a skater had time to pump fake. It was fun watching the skills. But did it have the flash & flair? Not like Barry & Vince (Or Bo & Deion)

I agree that Barry has an unparalleled collection of dancing, then explosive runs. (Of course, he also had a considerable amount of runs for minus yardage, because he would dance rather than hit the hole for a short gain.) My argument is that Bo had plenty of those, and Bo also had pure power. (My favorite is hosting Denver in 1988, where Bo tries to convert a short-yardage situation, gets knocked back by the Broncos d-line, resets himself, hits the hole again and gains five yards. You don't beat Bo twice!) That said, all very subjective, and I'm mostly only here because I'm so pissed off that my game has crashed and is giving me a technical issue. (I hate needing support.) Don't mind me. |

So what? How many athletes can commit to baseball part time & accomplish that? 1.You think the above is easy? 2. You ignore his numbers were rendered askew by a hip replacement. 3. He was an all-star. 4. His baseball highlights were beyond just numbers. His cannon to home plate to nail Harold Reynolds is remembered as one of the best throws in the history of the game. Running up the wall on a catch to the gap. Just the 2nd player to homer & steal a base in an all-star game where he was named MVP. Comeback POY after hip replacement. A hat trick in Yankee stadium. Normal human beings don't create multiple highlights that are remembered decades later in 2 major sports. Bo made it look like all he had to do was change jerseys.

Some people think stats are the end all be all to knowing how good someone is at a given thing

There are 30 yr olds riding buses through Zebulon, NC dedicating their whole life to getting just one "cup of coffee" in the majors. Or taking off years of their life to play for the Brahmas hoping to get invited to sweat more of their life away in Spartanburg, SC this summer for a chance to make an NFL roster. And Bo could go seamlessly from one to the other seemingly @ whim and leave the best in each sport in awe w/the stuff he could do. & dv wants to act like he looked like he was struggling? Dude.....................
