Copy of save instead of almanac?

Has anyone used a copy of a save around the end of each year instead of an almanac?

The save copy would be easier to navigate and contains everything.

Maybe these snapshot saves would end up too large after a few years of game play but I've a mind to try it so I'm interested in hearing if you do this or have tried it.

Thanks!

I make regular copies of saves, but also run almanacs. They are useful because I don't need to fire up the game to look at things.

You can keep the saves fairly manageable by constantly cleaning out the messages folder at the end of each year. Turning off things like player photos and baseball cards is also important. Those files add up.

Just remember to create a folder outside of your save game for the almanacs and then move them to there. If you leave them in your save game, then copying your saves or even backing them up will pick up the almanac files as well and that's a lot of unnecessary thousands of files you'll have on your hard drive!

I save 3 times every year.
Preseason, end of regular season before proceeding to playoffs and at the end of the year.
Preseason in case i mess up a schedule, rosters or a league settings etc.
Season end in case in case i forget something before proceeding to offseason.
Easier than replaying a whole season.
Year end in case i mess something up in the offseason.

It may seem like overkill but when you start in the 19th century i can't count how many times ive found something i missed and had to go back.
If i had to restart every year from the begining i would never get anyyear simmed.

As far as almanac i understand it be easier than opening the game but i can't really think of anytime i would be looking at my league without opening the game.

If you create almanacs, running it at the end of the season is the only way to capture league transactions between the start of the offseason and the end of the year. Once you hit Jan 1, the almanac won't pick them up.

However running the almanac right before the offseason hits is the only way to create team pages that have the regular season roster.

It's a bit of work to get a proper almanac for a season, imo.
