You're insane. All 29 other teams in the MLB should be making calls to the Nationals. Not doing otherwise is just plain franchise malpractice. And your comparing Dylan Carlon? Just in fielding? Or as a whole player? Soto is literally twice as valuable. Has had 7x the career value and is two days younger. Get the **** out of here |

Making the playoffs is what defines winning organizations in all sports.

Think about it, what is the goal in sports? To be .500 or to be in the playoffs, competing for the Rings?

If the Mariners make a push for Soto, can they afford to take on the Patrick Corbin contract? I assume any Soto trade is going to include Corbin so the Nats can get out from under at least one of their two terrible contracts (the other being Strasburg's).
On a similar note, we should really start a new Juan Soto related topic in this sub-forum so we don't tarnish all these great team-specific threads. |

I wonder if the Dodgers would acquire Soto just to keep other teams from doing it...

Maybe the Mariners go after the Red Sox' JD Martinez instead of Soto so we don't have to give up our entire farm system?

I don't know if they see Martinez as enough of an upgrade over Santana at DH the rest of the season to make it worth it. The holes in the lineup have been OF and 2B. Hopefully Lewis/Haniger can help in the OF and Frazier either gets it together at 2B or they look at someone like Merrifield.

I think that they need to get another starting pitcher to bolster this staff as some of them have never pitched this many innings before. I would not mind another ace bullpen guy and of course a bat maybe at second or in the outfield would be nice. I just hope they are in it to win it and not waiting another year. Time to use some of this farm capital to flip into big deadline trades!

Mariners are reportedly acquiring Luis Castillo from the Cincinatti Reds.

I think this trade probably takes Soto off of the market for us. I'm sure the Nats would have wanted some of the players the Mariners just gave up. Unless the Mariners are willing to give up Kelenic, Kirby, Ford, and Hancock. I'm not sure we want to give up our ENTIRE farm system.

Mariners win two series against the Yankees, and lose two series against the Angels and Rangers. Once again we are underperforming against bad teams and overperforming against good teams. Given our soft schedule the rest of the way, I'm wondering if this will be our achilles heel.

I feel like Dipoto and Servais are a package deal at this point. Pinella would be a fun headline that would quickly turn into the Tony La Russa experience (not that I think he would even want to come back at this point). I would be curious to see Cash outside of Tampa, because I kinda want to know how much is him and how much is that front office operating through him.

The Mariners finally beat up on a bad team. Maybe I should be manager.
