Total World Baseball Alliance
League Name: Total World Baseball Alliance (TWBA)
OOTP Version: OOTP 22 League Type: Fictional Sim Frequency: Sims 5 days a week in real life (last season was 2 weeks per sim during regular season. Slows down for playoffs and off-season). It is a live sim typically done in the morning League Intro: TWBA is a unique functional league heading into year 11. What makes it unique is that it is a promotional/relegation league that also mimics a European football like structure with multiple cups sprinkled in throughout the season. Up through this last season, the league was split into two levels, each with two divisions. Each level had one human lead division and an AI led division. This upcoming year, the league is condensing and dropping the AI teams. There has been some turnover with the human lead teams, so there are a few openings available. As I mentioned above, the league is promotion/relegation. At the end of the season, teams in the bottom portion of the top league’s standings play in a playoff format with the teams at the top of the lower league’s standings. The last place team is automatically relegated. The top most lower league team is automatically promoted. So, poor teams in the top and good teams in the lower league square off to see who moves up or stays up. There is a normal playoff structure for those top league teams who make the playoffs. There currently are three cups but are likely to see some changes here as well. One is called the Open Cup and consists of a best of three series for each round. The second is the Super Cup and was traditionally only for the top league’s human and AI teams. It features group play before moving on to best of 3 elimination format for each subsequent round. The last cup is the Sneak King Cup, which featured teams not pacing for playoff spots. It offered additional incentive to build competitive teams as a run could bring in additional revenue. The league was previous simmed one week at a time (one four game series per sim plus any additional cup games). Last year the schedule was accelerated to two weeks per sim (two 4 game series plus any cup games). This format is still being experimented with. The league is chock full of talent and there will be a fantasy draft to redistribute some of the talent on the AI teams amongst the teams that have not been making the top league’s playoffs or are in the lower league. It is a bit top heavy at the moment, so hopefully this helps even things out a bit. Additionally, the removal of AI teams will help with that. So, it is a good opportunity to hop in with one of the lower level teams and build up a winner! There are several teams available all with varying levels of current and future talent. Boston, Hanshin (will be rebranded and moved back to US), Atlanta, and Haiti are currently up for grabs. The league is on slack and Statsplus. We are a very active group and have a solid core of active GMs. The league is in a bit of a transition, so we are hopeful to attract new GMs! Please message if you are interested! Happy to chat.
