Negro Baseball League
For Love of the Game is now open and looking for owners. A unique league, For Love of the Game combines the old school negro league with the new school era of baseball.
The league has 16 players who are currently in the MLB Hall of Fame (the supernatural sixteen). Each of these players will join a league full of fictional players as 18 year old superstars (just like the Baseball Maelstrom, thanks for the idea) who will duke it out year after year with their team. Each team will draft a star, and he is unable to be traded/released throughout his career. Instead of having minor leagues we have a developmental league, where 6 teams produce the rookie class for each year. The developmental league will be sprinkled with real life negro league players, and some MLB players who also made impacts (Jackie Robinson, Larry Doby, Hank Aaron, Gene Baker, etc.). Every year we will bring in 10-20 real life players mixed in with fictional players for the developmental league. If a player does not get drafted, he stays in the D-League for the next season (up to the age of 32). Since there is no minor leagues however, you have to make sure that these players are almost ready to play in the bigs when you draft them. Everytime a player is drafted, a new random MLB player will take his place next season. The developmental league is like its own league, so you get to see complete career stats, news logs, records, and awards. We have many other features such as our own financial system including your very own sponsor. Players stick with their team until they are 32 and as soon as they hit 32 they must enter league free agency following the season. Player salaries will range from 1,000 dollars (a players salary until he is 32) to 20,000 dollars. Go here to read about everything in full detail. Once you have read the charter sign the agreement, and fill out an application. We look forward to what hopes to be many solid years of play. If you have any questions or need me to clarify something please feel free to email me at akrobat@tpb-fans.com. Last edited by Akrobat; 11-10-2003 at 12:54 PM. |

A few of the "stars" in the league:
Satchel Paige- Strikeout machine who boasts reduced ratings of 10/9/9 Josh Gibson- The most powerful/feared hitter in Negro baseball league history. Boasts ratings of 9/10/9 Cool Papa Bell- The fastest player in the Negro Leagues. Boasts 10 for contact, 10 for eye, and A/A speed Martin Dihigo- The most versatile player ever to play the game. He is rated "B" range for all 9 fielding positions with good hitting skills... and he's a pitcher! Let him hit 3 games, then pitch a 9 inning shutout the next. To fill out an app you'll need to sign the agreement on the charter, then it will lead you to the real application. Last edited by Akrobat; 11-10-2003 at 10:15 PM. |

I really like a lot of things in your league. Good luck!
I was curious as to why you decided to add real major league players (Bonds, A. Jones, etc...) to a fictional league with this great concept of Negro League legends? Since the league takes place in the 1940's, it seems to make better sense to add players from that era (Campanella, Jackie Robinson, Larry Doby...). Just curious. Otherwise, great foundation!

The original thought was to actually use legends from the 60's, 70's, etc. but to be honest with you I'm not familiar with players from those eras and their heritage. If some historical buff were to help me out and locate enough historical african american/latin players I could most certainly go that route instead.
I'd actually prefer it over current day MLB'ers. Nothing is set in stone, as long as the owners agree to do the switch. So if anyone could point me in the direction of a site/information that has everything I could need, it would be helpful

An owner was able to provide me a GREAT site with players from the time frame of 1940/1950, so we have decided to scrap the 2003 MLB idea and use historical players from the Negro/MLB era instead. Thanks LivnLegend

That's great, Albert!
I think this makes the league that much stronger. I'm really looking forward to it.

Sounds like a great concept. Good luck and if you have any questions on how the Maelstrom handles anything let me know.

I'll second that, metsgeek, and I hope that my Philadelphia Stars will provide decent competition for you in the division.
This one looks like it could be a classic - get in early!
