How to Normalize Josh Gibson?
Sorry for this amatuerish question as I am fairly new to OOTP. Created a league with All-Time Greats. Naturally the newer franchises suck something bad. In order to beef them up, I'd like to grant them access to the Negro League greats. I found how to import Josh Gibson into the free agent pool where the Arizona Diamondbacks will grab him. But his stats are worse than the Diamondback greats!
I have read you have to "normalize" NeL stars into the game. How do I accomplish this? I was sure hoping I could just pull Josh from some already normalized database. Am I wrong? Thank you for the help! Corrgc |

Is the league set up for a one season only battle or is it meant to be a multi-season or career affair?

If it is just for one season, using career stats entered in the Editor "Stat Line" (modern neutral environment) will get you something at least proximate. The fact you are using career stats is itself a dampening effect for league quality differentials. The career stats for Josh are on seamheads.com (better than bRef for NeL players). If you want Josh to have a career, enter his by year stats each year into the editor line at the start of each year after any game recalc of stats/ratings - otherwise the game will revert him back to garbage every year.
So, to make Josh, take those career stats from seamheads, and enter those big numbers in that editor stat line then "Create Current Ratings based on Stats". Do the same for Potential. The stats should revert to a 550 AB line akin to what is shown here. If his defense and positional ratings are fine, let them be. Otherwise, look up a catcher comp, import that comp player and steal their ratings and overwrite Josh's with them. For strikeouts, the NeL'ers don't have good data, so you can just use a league average line and adjust up/down as you like or steal whatever I researched when I made this one. EDIT: I think I used just his career peak numbers when he was a catcher (so not his total career numbers) and not the later years when he was an aging 1B. My stats look very peak-ish... Which might be fair since all your other greats are getting their best year. Good luck! Last edited by LansdowneSt; 01-30-2022 at 01:24 AM. |

Thank you! Thank you! In my short time in OOTP I have basically run "one-off" seasons with not much venturing into career mode. I will use your suggestions to incorporate NeL stars into my games. Thanks again! |
