Disable Automatic Creation of Free Agents
I am confused about this setting. The manual states if I check it, OOTP will create fictional FA in order to fill the league. The confusion is this: the setting reads "Disable Automatic Creation of FA"...so which is it?
Also...is this something that should be checked or left unchecked by default? I have 35 rounds worth of created players even though my draft is only 20 rounds. (as per current MLB rules) Is this enough to ensure there will be enough players moving forward? |

The manual is wrong. Clicking the box means the league will not create free agents.

The manual seems to be wrong.
I use this setting a lot and the name of it accurately describes what it does. If it is checked there will not be any free agents created essentially from thin air, all players will be created through the options selected on the Players tab of the League Settings. (Lukas beat me) |

So depends on how many free agents you want in the league, if you do/don't like guys showing up in the league with no history etc.

They are generally Major League ready free agents and sometimes pretty good, so I prefer to have it off in most scenarios...but if you are wanting to eliminate or have only a few levels of minor leagues it is useful.

I would rather not have them appear from thin air, however I get concerned about a player shortage, as it describes in the manual.

I always have it checked so no FA's get created, never run out of players.
I'm not sure what your league is setup like, but you must have a ton of players with that many created for the draft. I have a 20 round draft, and create players for 22 rnds. The only other way players enter my league is through scouting discoveries, which I have set to default 7 per team per year. I have a 36 team MLB setup with 4 levels of minors, no other leagues. Threads like this are a good reason one should peruse the forums on a regular basis. I must have glanced over this option many times but, I guess, never noticed it enough to check into it. Just looked at my game and it is unchecked.
I don't think OOTP has ever actually generated any "out of thin air" players for my game even with this unchecked. With my style of play I think it would be hard to miss. I have a 25 round draft with players created for 26. Also have default international FA, international established FA, and independent league discoveries FA enabled. In any case I'm still glad I to see this post and check that box just to be sure.

Why don't you correct the manual? Last edited by Eugene Church; 11-09-2021 at 11:40 AM. |
