In the midst of a game right now. My veteran 2-time Pitcher of the Year (no such person as Cy Young in my fictional universe) #2 starter makes an out at the plate (no such thing as a DH, yet anyway, either). He's hitting .308/.321/.346. We aren't talking about a 2-way player here and while he's never been the worst hitting pitcher, his career slash line is .202/.219/.240.

Oh, and he's off to 9-1 start to the season with a 2.19 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP.

My guess (and it's only a guess) is that the pbp logic is looking at his batting average against rather than his batting average. I think I've seen this happen before. Matt will have to verify it.

I can see that.
Though also, to be fair, his batting WAR is -0.2, so that might also be what is triggering this kind of wording.

I probably should clarify that I would be disappointed if every little quirk in the PBP was eradicated and this post was truly meant to be light-hearted and humorous in nature, not an actual criticism of anything.

It was just too funny not to share, given what an incredible season this guy is having overall. In fact, he ended up carrying a no-hitter into the 7th in this very game and a shutout into the 8th, before finally just having to settle for a humdrum 14-2 5-hitter for his 10th win of the season in very early June.

And, well, like I'm sure has been true for a lot of us, 2020 and now really 2021 also could be described by me as pretty dismal years. Sadahige Kawaski's 1982 season in the WPK, not so much.

Nah, was just that the text item wasn't checking the right conditions overall. Not saying there aren't any sarcastic entries in there, but I don't think this was necessarily meant to be one...
