How many fudge and go to Commissioner Mode?
How many here have tried to find that player you needed via trade, waiver wire or free agent and just couldnt find the one you wanted? Then said "Screw it! Time for Commissioner mode!" so you could get the player you wanted? I am walking that fine line to do it myself right now!

I only use my Commissioner Mode powers for good
I never use it to give my team an unfair advantage. I use it to rename a guy or give him a different jersey number or picture. I also use to generate fictional minor league free agents and import historical players.

I don't control any teams in my main league, and use commish powers mostly to give players nicknames from big accomplishments or playoff success.

How many fudge and go to Commissioner Mode?
I only use commissioner mode to regenerate facegen pictures, change weird player names, add nicknames, and adjust coaching staffs if there are unrealistically too many foreign coaches.

I play the game straight and true. I take what the game gives me and "I like it that way". Last summer I bought a new computer and OOTP crashed on, it all the way to reboot, without any warning. Wasn't an OOTP problem and Acer sent me a new rig after they couldn't fix it with two visits to their service center.
It bothers me to this day that I lost games in progress to these crashes. This means even though the only recourse was to play them again I don't have what was supposed to happen. I could never use commissioner mode to steer things my way. It would ruin the league for me. |

I play the game straight. I play the game as Commissioner and GM of a team. I don't manage the team, set lineups or rotations etc.. I sometimes hope my mediocre team goes on a long losing stretch so I can get a very gold draft pick but then they usually go on a winning streak just finishing below the playoff teams.

Ok I'll bite I use commish mode cheats on injuries for mine and sometimes other teams. What you say that my star player will suddenly be gone for the season and half of the next? Nah I'll edit to say he's gone just for the season. See you during spring training!
And if it's a 3 month injury well it's 2127 in my world so modern medicine suddenly makes that an 8 week injury instead. Sometimes for star players on other teams I hate for them to go down so I'll adjust that too. I don't use commish powers for free agency though or to magically make players mine.

In historical leagues I used to use it (haven't played historical in a bit). If I saw one of the big name players was rated comically low, would boost them cause who wants to play in a world where Ken Griffey Jr sucked? Needless to say it helped out the AI 95% of the time, but would do it to players on my team too

I have done the same and have gotten rid of all injuries over 45 days. I guess my wish list would include a slider to limit the length of injuries. I play historical to find good players that I didn't know about or to see how good some players really were but long injuries would hide them. |

I use Commissioner Mode to force roster adjustments if, say, a real-life trade is made. And sometimes (not often) the AI makes one of those trades that are idiotic and would never happen in real life in a million years.
But mostly, I use it for generating photos and adjusting nicknames and the like. Occasionally I will expand the league or adjust schedules. But loading my team with superstars from other teams sort of defeats the purpose. |

To each their own, but I never use Commissioner Mode for evil (like forcing trades). I do always have Commissioner Mode turned on for my modern day game. Some of what I use it for:
1) Correcting gross rating errors -- like Tyler O'Neill's speed rating of 36 despite being in the Top 10 in Statcast sprint speed. 2) Adding/adjusting positional eligibility if the team actually uses the player at that spot IRL and if he's actually competent there -- like Dylan Carlson in CF this year for STL (had an 11 CF rating). 3) Adjusting Morales, Roster/Option Status, etc. back to normal if I mis-click and accidentally promote/demote the wrong player. 4) Changing the Max Roster Players to 27 when I play a double header (the extra player rule that OOTP hasn't coded yet). 5) Adding/changing nicknames, player history, updating FaceGens, and other cosmetic stuff. In previous versions, I've had to use it to compensate when there was something in the OOTP model way out of whack -- like a run of a few versions where P's would typically fail to move a runner over around 90% of the time, but most of these issues appear to have been slowly but surely corrected by OOTP22. |

My play 'em all out league is always single season so I use it to reduce injury length and I am always less helpful to the team I manage to keep it challenging. I applaud the injury slider suggestion.

I had never used it in OOTP 21 but I have used it in my current save. I've been very frustrated with this version because of the high volume of injuries, usually late in the season, of players who are not fragile. So I have shortened injuries and lowered injury settings when needed.
I've also tinkered with prospect settings to boost potential to see what happens. It's been fun to follow the progress of these players and see if they actually become elite talents. I've been dominating and it's fun. Once my team gets too good, I will start over. I am getting to the point where I'm trading my better players as they near free agency to restock my minors because I have rookies ready to take over. |

The only time I ever use it is to set pitch limits for my minor league pitching prospects. For some reason, those are sometimes greyed out and I'm unable to change them without entering Commissioner mode. I'm assuming that's because whatever minor league manager is in control does not allow any changes.
I don't think this is unrealistic or "cheating", as a real-life major league organization would certainly have some say in pitch counts for their highly rated pitching prospects.

Is there a way to quit challenge mode and go commish mode?

I absolutely cannot. Genesis 9:8-17 8 Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: 9 “I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you 10 and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth. 11 I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.” |
