AI Third Base Coach
First of all, I love love love that we are now able to have our 3B coach make baserunning decisions. Great addition, and I thank the devs for it. But...
My guy doesn't make the best choices. He's running my players into an embarrassing number of outs. Which, I get it, some coaches will be more aggressive than others, and some overly so. It would be wonderful, however, if I, in my capacity as GM/manager, could say, "Hey there, Tony, cool it down or I'm sending you to the Pioneer league". No? |

This would be up to the manager to do. You can adjust the baserunning slider in team strategy to adjust the baserunning aggressiveness. If you have a manager employed, some will not let you change this though.

As I understand it, those strategy sliders only affect auto-play games. I manage my team and play each game pitch-by-pitch.

I think it does still have an effect as there is no full way to control base running while playing pitch-by-pitch.

I set all of my offensive players’ game strategies individually, and don’t see many egregious baserunning mistakes, FWIW. It’s worth a shot. As an aside, there are MANY situations where I’d like a “conference with manager option” like what you described. I’d like that in game as well as post- and pre-game. In-game for example, may be a “get your head out of your ass” (paraphrasing lol) option during a mound visit. Post-game, perhaps there could be an option to praise your team or like, “trash the clubhouse” LOL! Of course, these could apply small, temporary positive or negative modifiers depending on player personalities and whatnot. EDIT: By the way, threatening to send your 3B coach to a now non-affiliated league... man, that is stone cold, and I LOVE IT! Lmao

Dude, I think it's broken. I'm managing the 2021 Mets (just launched new sim with 4.49 drop), Gary DiSarcina sends EVERYBODY, and after 15 games I have a league-worst -8.7 in "Team Base Running" (whatever that metric measures). Unnecessary guys thrown out at home. Third outs recorded at third. It's ridiculous. His in-game running rating is supposedly "Average." My ass. I was probably way too conservative when I was making the decisions, but this guy is sending my catcher home from second with nobody out on a shallow single to left by my pitcher in the third. I mean, give my 1-2-3 guys a chance to bring you home. I'm sure the graphics aren't exact but I think the ball was already headed home BEFORE he rounded third ...

Not to say there's no issue but check their In-Game Running rating.
That might be why they are making poor send decisions, or overly aggressive. ML Scouting matters too (if you have scouting on) since the scouted ratings are what's used for decisions that the AI makes. My team is usually near the top in Team Baserunning (how much run value has been gained or lost on the bases - SB and succeeding to take extra bases raise this, CS and outs on the bases lower it). One year the team was 10th for whatever reason, but other than that, usually top 5 (currently 4th). I hired an Excellent 3B Coach in terms of In-Game Running. Could just be coincidence but I've had him since the save began. I keep extending him because the team is doing well (most of the time) on the bases. |

+1 This would be fun and it could serve as a for-that-game adjustment to the management strategy. For post-/pre-game, the manager's personality could be more impacting as well. A tempermental guy might trash the clubhouse after getting routed or go on a tirade during the press conference, for example. The personality would also impact those modifiers representing the impression it made on the team. Perhaps even the team leaders/captains telling you about it if it becomes an issue. |
