How Do You Decide Who To Be?
I am trying to decide who to be in my USBL game, that I had to re-tool from the ground up. Below are some screenshots of the the teams in the league. I simulated from 1960-2020 and am at the 2020 playoffs, but starting to look at who I should take over as GM after the playoffs are done.
I'm curious who would you choose and your reasoning behind your choice. |

I would pick Portland. I always pick a small market team that hasn't had much success when I play in a fictional league. I play where I can be fired, too, so that I can build the owner's expectation up to a level where I might eventually fail them. It's fun to build a dynasty, get fired when they get old, and then try to knock them off with the next huge underdog team.

Sioux Falls SD would be a nice place to be in the summer, and the cost of living is very agreeable.

Provo Roadrunners,
Very good prospects, very good team in 40 year span, and a small market team. |

Sioux Falls for me too because I love the name. Plus it looks like there's some work to be done there in the prospect department and the budget in near the bottom end.

Providence. 28th in payroll and minor league system. Looks like they were decent, but without the last season standings, I don't know how good now.

Generally I pick the worst team with the least intrusive owner that has no problem with spending money.

Well, Portland has the worst historical record, the smallest budget and is only 11th in the top prospects rankings despite their ineptitude.
So it seems like a no brainer to me.....anybody but Portland. LOL Unless you enjoy a challenge, as many OOTP'ers do. |

Edit: Sorry for not actually responding, I'd pick Reno out of this bunch, my sister lived there for a decade so I've been there many many times and have fond memories of the drive up (except that one night during a snowstorm when the de-icer fluid ran out!).

Probably Virginia Beach. Worst historical record, zero championships, somewhat local to me so I can picture playing there.

I'd go with Mobile, lots of ineptitude, small budget, and middle of the pack prospects.

Whose franchise is most in need of a rebuild (worst combo of record, roster and farm system)? That would be my choice.

I look for a team that is in rebuild mode.
Then I check out the owner. He needs to be patient - rebuilds don't happen overnight. He needs to be charitable with the budget - need leeway with finances. He needs to be "Hands Off" - I was hired for a reason. Let me do my job. |

St. Paul Loons. Hometown team, middle of the pack in everything. But just the name Loons fits where the team is located.
