Minor League Affiliation Switches
This is my first time posting here, so I hope this is an appropriate place to ask this question: I'm playing an historical game in Challenge Mode, and one of my minor league affiliates was dropped by my franchise during the offseason, so all the players on that team are no longer under my control. The minor league team is now unaffiliated so I could buy the players, but my franchise only has enough cash to purchase one. Is there any way to get these players back?

Okay, this is huge. I was told that when this happens, players simply move to the lowest level in a teams system until they are appropriately reassigned. That I could stomach, so I've been enjoying a historical with real minors that I started in 62 and progressed to June of 63. If players simply get released and are no longer the property of a team due to an affiliation switch, I don't want to waste any more of my time playing this league. Ugh!

My only other thought is could the original poster be playing with a reserve roster limit on the lowest minor league level? If so perhaps that could cause the releases of some minor league players if the number of affiliates shrunk

Maybe there is some other setting I could tweak to prevent this if it is not intended (thinking Minor League AI control settings). 62 is about where I would start such a league so will be about as close an Apples and Apples test as I can do to ease Mr Watts fear

Well, Murphy's Law being reliable and all that... I just ran to test with the 1962 Yankees transitioning to the 1963 season. They had changes that season so figured it as a good test.
I tried two tests in Challenge Mode, 1 with the AI controlling Minor League promotions/demotions and 1 with it being left up to human control. In both cases, players were reassigned to other affiliates in the Yankee system. I know I saw the same issue the OP did, and I doubt I was playing Challenge Mode at the time (was experimenting and would have wanted the ability to change settings). I'll be playing this mode more now that I know the OP's issue wasn't by design... and apparently isn't easily reproducible. It happens to me again I'll try to narrow down the cause. In the meantime, if aaronmueller can supply more specifics about his league (year, recalc settings, anything changed from default, etc) I wouldn't mind helping troubleshoot.

I have had a weird lock up when minor league systems have changed, but I was playing as manager:
Scenario: I was acting as future major league manager Jim Tracy in 1988, playing out a league based off the book "The Boys Who Would Be Cubs" by Joseph Bosco. In my sim, after the season, the major league club rewards Tracy by promoting him to Double-A Pittsfield for the 1989 season. But the Cubs changed affiliation to Charlotte for 1989. The players changed teams, but Tracy as the manager does not, and Pittsfield is an empty shell. Only way I have been able to continue as manager is resign and hope the Charlotte job is available to continue as planned.in the organization (in real life, Tracy moved to the Reds AA Chattanooga squad for 1989). Little bit of a nuisance, but I can't imagine too many people are trying to play as minor league managers. Last edited by blubbla; 01-03-2021 at 11:15 PM. |

Good topic--Perhaps Minor League Roster Limits Conflict
Quote:
When aaronmueller replies with the specifics of their league settings, I will be curious to see if the mass release contributor was perhaps due to minor league roster limits imposed (e.g., age, years pro, max roster size, etc.). I use the roster limits to prevent the AI teams from hoarding 100+ players at the lowest minor league levels. Last edited by HumanRainDelay; 01-08-2021 at 12:32 PM. |

I can also confirm that releasing all the players from an affiliate when it moves to another organization is not normal. My game is in the 1980s and there were a bunch of changes then as well. The only time the players are released is when it involves unaffiliated teams. I’m guessing there’s something in the settings triggering your results.

I have found a way to make sure you don't lose any of your minor league prospects when you change affiliates between seasons.
Go to baseball reference and look at the NEXT years minor league affiliates for whichever team you are controlling. When all your minor league affiliates seasons end, immediately promote/demote all your players to the rosters of the teams that are still in the system the next year. When the 'new year' begins, the old teams disappear, the new ones appear with blank rosters and the teams that carryover will have huge rosters for you to distribute. It takes time, but I've found that the only way. Got tired of losing prospects year after year. You have to do it before the World Series ends. I would backup the game the first time you try it just to be sure it works.
