Sim by period

I am excited about new product and happy that work continues.
Some of the fine tuning and training i wish could be applied to baseball product.

Did you include back in the ability to sim period by period?
Earlier versions had this. Unclear what is was removed.

Anyway you put the sim by period feature back in I will buy!

(if not can you explain why that feature was taken out so i can understand? I feel like i must be missing something??)

Would love a sim by period option as well. A live scores option like in OOTP would be amazing (so we can watch other scores -or even highlights!- between periods) but I think this will be something for a future version.

Thank for supporting the sim by period.
Not sure what would have changed behind the scenes to warrant pulling that out????

It would be like pulling out play to x inning, or RISP in the baseball world.

I didn't see the ability to offload sweater numbering, so i guess it is possible i don't see in the game.

To follow up on the sim to RISP in OOTP Baseball, it would be very cool if we could for example sim period 1 and 2, and then jump into the 2D in period 3 to see the end of the game live. So many possibilities!

MOST DEFINTELY!!!
or sim till score differential 1 goal

I only have so much time left in this world and competing games, life and work make it hard for me to get back into this game that forces me either play the whole game or sim it..
I just surprised so many people have time to play every period

In my experience with sport sims, playing out games can take two forms: discrete events (baseball, football) or continuous action (hockey, soccer). The continuous action games are the tough ones. As pointed out here, not many people have the time or inclination to play out an entire game. From what I have seen, Football Manager gets it right. It provides the option to sample parts of the game, with a few different options for sampling frequency available to the user, but always including critical events such as goals.

As I recall, previous versions of FHM had something like that available for the text sim. With the 2D engine, however, I expect that implementing this option will be a big task, but hopefully the developers will eventually be able to do this.

Sim to end of period/sim to just before (probably 5 minutes) the end of the game is on the to-do list for the new engine right now, but I'm not sure if it'll make it in in time for the release.

Jeff,

That's excellent work! Thanks for all your efforts in getting the 2D engine up and running this year. It's a fabulous addition.

Did this make it into the final release?
I am not sure why animation would have anything to with the ability to sim??
Baseball you just sim to whatever part of game you want then you are playout the remaining, or start sim to another point in time.

Not in that form, but there's a "Quick" button that suppresses the animation and moves the game forward rapidly, so you can click that on and off to quickly jump forward to the end of a period or whatever point you want.

Thanks for this info and I really like this feature; if you change sim speed to very fast and uncheck the situations for stoppage, it is really quick if you want to do the entire period. I like the ability to stop once a goal is scored in case I want to modify a strategy or line. With sim a period I might miss that opportunity which is my primary reason for watching games played out in the first place. Glad players can do either rather than just one.

It's great to see that this option is available so early in the evolution of the 2D engine. I realize that a huge amount of effort went into making this a reality, so many thanks, Jeff, for all your work.
