Why would it only get a 54 Movement rating?
He gave up only 2 homers in 60.2 innings, and in a season where home runs were hit at a record rate. He generated more ground outs than fly outs by a 47.9% to 34.7% margin. He throws a splitter 41.9% of the time and it has the 4th best movement among all splitters in the majors: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leade...6&sortDir=desc Considering all of that, where is the 54 rating coming from? What stat(s) are being converted in to a 54 from his 2019 season? Last edited by DonMattingly; 05-24-2020 at 11:59 AM. |

The ratings of live cards are based on offseason projections for how well they'll do this season (from ZiPS, I believe). So, at least until games start to be played and we start to see real-life performance from these players, the projections dictate the card ratings. In this case, ZiPS predicts that Kirby Yates will regress to his career mean HR/9, hence the mediocre movement on the card.
