Scouting and Development Budget
In an online league... our first offseason. The Scouting and Development budget was 10.4 mill and 12 mill. How much effect do these have? I mean... that’s a 22.4 million dollar player I could sign instead of these budgets so I would really like to know if they have more value than a top level FA pitcher.

I always have mine set to max 24 million for scouting and 36 million for development. In single player.
My farm system is always #1 and usually my entire minor leagues (9 levels) reach the playoffs. |

On the flip side... there’s not a ton of amazing free agents... and I expect them to sign for bloated contracts... so I’m not sure how valuable that money would be spent in FA anyway so makes sense to spend it on something like scouting and development anyway. |

Its the long game prospects take years to develop. Foreign amateurs are 16 even if they take 5 years they are only 21. Hoe about if they dont develop until they are 23 that is 7 years. Same thing with 18 year old draft picks. 5 years and they are 23 but they might need till 25.
Plus you never know who has talent and who doesn't until they play years. I've cut bums whop became great after 3 years on other teams. And I've picked up bums to fill out my minors who became all stars in the show. You know never. Minimum it takes 3 years of stats to start judging. So the development is the long game we are talking most things will be 5 years away. But then once its strong it is constant like an avalanche. Where every year you have 5+ guys ready for the MLB. Then the problem is they can't fit in the MLB. So you have to trade them for younger prospects. Snowball avalanche effect. But long game |

Just to point out I am speaking of single player and not online so I am sure it plays out differently. Overall it should still be mostly the same. I am assuming with other humans trades and free agents would be completely different.

Well... I would think the development mechanics would be the same.

I spend the absolute minimum on player dev and my prospects develop at a better rate than teams who spend 3 times the average. Some people swear by it, I think it's a waste of money.
If I have extra cash lying around I'll put it in player development but otherwise I see better uses of the money. The impact is minimal at best from what I can tell. |

My gut tells me that if we asked an OOTP developer, he wouldn’t say: Yes, we included development budget that does nothing. It’s a waste of money. We included it just to be a jerk. But I guess it’s possible. Thanks for the feedback regardless. Making me question it at least. Last edited by brian_msbc; 05-19-2020 at 05:49 PM. |

If you are already good at developing spending more money will just make you that much better. |

I don't play solo because it's no challenge. Playing vs people in online leagues.
And to OP - didn't say it had no impact, rather that the difference is likely minimal between spending a significant or a small amount on prospects. |
