Kubota, the Scout with a great reputation
OR Hahn, the GM with a fair reputation ??? I'm the Expos in my online league and our budget is pathetic so this is a huge 5 year commitment. I think Hahn would make the better scout - and he's 7 years younger - and cheaper too. Not sure how important 'reputation' really is, anyway. Thanks for insight. |

I'd go Hahn if I was a small-market GM. Happy trails over in Montreal! |

For a scout on a rebuilding team I go for as high as possible because you can't afford to miss on prospects and when evaluating trades.

so the fact that he's a GM - and not a scout - shouldn't matter at all? I guess that's my question here

Seemed to work out well for me, but I'm sure it's different for others... |

and everything seemed to work out just fine? pretty sure it doesn't make any difference if my scout has a background of GM or not. But it would be great to see some hard evidence |

Yeah, Theo I believe is listed as legendary for amateur scouting. He worked out very well for me.

Also should note in my small experience with it, when you hire a GM to be your scout, I've never seen them resign as scouting director once their original deal runs out. They want to go back to being a GM...

Reputation doesn't mean anything. Its their individual ranks in the scouting categories.
I've even seen pitching coach with ranks in the gm category. Plus higher favor tools is so much more accurate then ability. |

I put the most weight into Minors. Even though I have a full universe Foreign Scouting is very limited. You will know mostly who the good July Int Amateur Free Agents are from OSA and what they are asking for. If they are asking for 4 million most likely one of the top candidates asking for 500k then not.
And even with the foreign leagues in 21 I've noticed a lot of posting. My first 2 seasons there were probably 20 players posted from around the world. I don't think i had 20 combined from OOTPb 18/19/20 all together lol. Most of the time the Int free agents you can sign normally are either already good and have stat lines or are real young and you are going with ratings or throwing darts. In either case I don't think being better and Scouting International helps much. Even scouting Amateurs for the draft is kind of overrated. If you are good team you will be picking near last anyway. So is it really helping you that much? Probably not. I rate Minors the highest. Because I am either trading for minor league guys or I am looking to see who is developing on my squads. Also I feel Major league scouting is underrated. The better it is the more you can tell if those young mlb players who have under 3 years MLB time are developing or getting ready to explode into all stars and when those older guys are about to hit a wall even before their stat line starts to show it. But yeah the most important thing is probably highly favors tools lol. Where anything besides highly favor tools you would probably be better off just going OSA. Not sure if anyone has done testing but its probably weird their scouting preference has more influence on their overall scouting ability then their so called scouting ability ratings. |
