Cool idea. Interesting to see how my recently promoted to Perfect League, soon to be doormat Thieves compare.

Bees - Gold League
45

Thieves - Perfect League
40

Barnstormers - Diamond League
44

I always thought Bees were underperforming and Thieves were over performing and I'm probably right...

Raccoons (P411): 72 [No live cards, except for 1 on reserve roster - I can't get myself to get rid of Mondesi]
Mammoth Mud Hens (S251): 7

Only in 1 game. The other two were decided by a run and you won the last one with 4 in the 9th. Nice logo by the way. My daughter has a pair of parakeets (which means I do too!) so she especially liked your team logo.

Without giving too much away, I basically have the following priorities:

For batters:
CON
EYE
... a decent gap (smaller if the batter has high CON)
POW
GAP
(No consideration of AvoidK)

For pitchers:
MOV
CON
STU

I prioritize defense like most other successful F2P players. In particular, Gary "God Gary" Maddox is a mainstay on 2/3 teams, as are Joe Cronin/Lou Boudreau. Gary Maddox is so good... he put up like a 10 war season in the perfect leagues for me a few weeks ago, and is usually around that level.

The biggest thing that I think that F2P players don't realize is the sheer importance of park factors. You need to go all in on a strategy. For example, I have 2 teams that go full righty or full lefty/switch, (maxed park for R/L, min park for the opposite hand). I also have a third team on max hitting for both hands (with high STU emphasis to shut down opposing batters) but that's almost out of principle because I think they'd be better off as a righty team. You gotta win at home to have a shot at the playoffs. You also gotta make sure your team is optimized for R/L pitching. Platoons are important, but also knowing how much R vs. L pitching you expect to see is important because it informs your choice about which players to get even if they're not in a platoon.

Also, I have a custom spreadsheet where I've implemented fits to players' projected wOBA and FIP performance. I know there is a community one floating around but I'm using my own data/analysis to develop player projections. However, the real takeaways of that analysis are what I've mentioned here.

How do you all have a Maddox? I keep searching for him on the market, since I'd love to grab him and shift Trout to a corner OF. Just grabbed Erstad, so hopefully he helps shore up my OF defense.

I snatched him up on release weekend for 4k or so since I knew he would be good from 19. And I think 20k is probably a reasonable price for him, give how amazing he's been year in and year out. Although, Devon White has put up 6 WAR seasons on the regular on my lefty/switch team, so maybe it's just the nature of a high-defense CF to put up good WAR.

Yeah, maybe that's why I haven't seen him available anytime if I keep filtering by my budget

My Sunset Town Kings roster is a 51 now that I have parlayed the points earned by selling the Perfect 1999 Pedro I pulled last week. 35 of the points are directly from AH purchases that I made from selling the one card.

Back to topic, I run a few live cards, so my point total will vary week to week. Currently I'd be at a 33 it looks like, but I was really hoping and expecting Bellinger to be up to a perfect this week, which would have bumped my total up another couple points (plus given me a little more money to spend, since I've been hording 2 of them which I bought for less that I was really hoping to sell for 40k this week to let me grab an upgrade to my rotation).

My teams are all F2P:

Shasta Black Bears (S294): 20
Chippewa Grey Wolves (P404): 23
Ozark Bobcats (B249): 17

By the way, ballpark factors are meaningless. Someone show me some hard evidence to convince me that I am wrong.

Great post.

I added Maddox to my Bees, along with Erstad. Have Cronin and Boudreau on my teams too.

I focus on contact, gap, and avoid K with my Bees, along with groundball pitching (weird in a gap park I guess but my infield was better than my outfield last year. Now everyone is blue on DEF, except 1B - Carew, who isn't bad). Tops in AVG, ERA, and DEF right now, but having trouble scoring runs.

Idea on what strategy to use? Sabermetric? Balanced? Small ball?

On my Thieves, I've done great with focusing on high movement and/or control (and great defense), although they are overmatched in Perfect.

Please tell me you at least get an employee discount with the PP? Like $100 for 275K PP or something? I'm imagining OOTP devs scrounging around for PP and I find that to be somewhat...hilarious. No offense!

I wish I mean, I can literally ask Chris at any time to just give me points for "testing" , but I'd like to run things mostly legit to see how well I can do.

Sabermetric basically means "using a strategy founded in data and statistics", which is exactly what any good strategy should be in my opinion. So, I generally don't steal much, I don't bunt, and I am maxed on the shift.

So, with Treinan continuing to plummet like... well, I'm not sure there's anything really comparable, I am now down to 18 points.

I think they'll need to tweak the ratings updates for relief pitchers. It's too choppy. It can be a good thing if you guess right, but also very frustrating.

Not bragging, but I saw the Treinen thing coming a few weeks ago and sold (to be fair he could get hot and climb back to diamond at some point), but it's weird he goes from 96 diamond to 76 silver in a matter of 3 weeks (?)

Another example...Felipe Vazquez has been great for the Pirates. He struck out 5 in 3.1 IP last week. No BBs. But, he allows a homer to Keston Hiura and goes from 92 diamond to 88 gold on just that one swing!
