Cards notes: Preview of series with Atlanta; Waino issues another plea to help needy
After a split of a four-game series with the NL-West leading Dodgers, the Cardinals hit the road for a three-game visit to Atlanta.
The Braves, at 69-80, sit in fourth place in the NL East. Also, Adam Wainwright, ever the humanitarian, has issued another plea for fans and teammates to step forward to help with one of his many causes. |

Cards notes: Wainwright lost for half year after lawn mower mishap
Just got a note that right-handed pitcher Adam Wainwright has severed two fingers in an at-home lawn mower accident.
For some reason, the press release says Brendan Schoemaker althought Wainwright's photo appears at the bottom. The fingers were saved and re-attachted, but he is expected to miss up to six months. With him being 37 year old, despite a decent season, I was not expecting to re-sign Wainwright -- much to the dismay of my meddling owner -- so this will spell the end of his time with the Cardinals and probably his career. In better news, it seems that just before he went out to mow the lawn Wainwright learned that Wainwright had accomplished his goal of making a sizeable donation to a local food bank. Hopefully, that will bring him solace during his recovery. Jack Flaherty will likely get Wainwright's starts through the remaining games of the season and possibly into the playoffs. |

Cards notes: Holland will sit with back spasms
Cardinals right-handed reliever Greg Holland left their 3-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants in the top of the 12th inning with back spasms.
Holland is expected to be affected by the injury for up to two weeks, but with expanded rosters no move will be made. |
