What's The Size Of Your Rotation?

(This might be a double post)
With all the talk of the Cubs, Rangers & Angels using a 6 man rotation and the Rays talking about a 4 man rotation I am wondering what you use in your modern game.

5, occasionally skipping the 5th starter when possible.

Five, occasionally skipping a slumping guy, and while having an extra swingman in the pen that can handle spot starts like double headers etc.

I use 5.5 with the spot starter being the 6th guy. I'll skip any starter if they have 5-7 consecutive starts and I may want to set them up for an important series.

I do five in the majors, but 6 in the minors because each of my minor league rosters is about 30 guys

5, and I will still run-out that Starter who is having a rough time; I won't skip him. If he continues to have issues, I will eventually either put him in the pen, or if he has options, send him down to AAA to figure it out.

5 During the regular season. Playoffs vary but a lot of times just a 2 man rotation.

5 in majors, 6 in the minors. Occasionally skip the 5th or 6th in weeks with an off day(s). Rotation changes are frequently, 3 iffy to bad starts finds your role shifted to Long Reliever.

Hi there!

I'd just rather not mess around with the rotation size. And we all have bad days; a couple straight poor outings or even a bad three weeks, doesn't define the guy. And if he has a good track-record, I'll given him more opportunities.

5 man rotation I let them sort out their bad starts by keeping them on their normal rotation.

I typically go with a 6-man rotation for two reasons:
  1. I never have more than 2-3 starters worth their weight
  2. For some reason, I'm good at building a solid bullpen

So because of #2 above, I'm able to use decent long relievers to supplement my garbage 3-6 starters.

Wouldnt you want to use those 2-3 starters more often?

I tried that, but they would always flare out come playoff time. Once I moved to a six-man rotation while maintaining a solid bullpen, I'm able to get to the playoffs with a well-rested trio of starters.

I've experimented w/ a 4 man, and a 9 man bullpen. If the 5th spot comes up and there hasn't been a day off, I start my long reliever and hope he goes 4 innings.
