Who should be the 2064 WBA AL Rookie of the Year?
The WBA is a long-term sim that I follow as a fan/play the role of commissioner. The following players finished in the top 3 in AL Rookie of the Year voting. In what order do YOU have them finishing if you had a vote? Curious to see some responses. The AI had it as:
1. Olvera 2. Richmond 3. Wyman. Did they get it right?

Olivera easy.
He had a better WAR than both of them, more hits, better avg, better slg than Richmod. Also the Wyman's K total are pretty low for a 20 win guy plus a 3.30 with a .267 BABIP I'd take Olivera.

all 3 are 25 years old. Your players are coming into the league awfully late!

I went with Wyman as well. I know that just looking at advanced stats that may not be who you pick but I just can't ignore a 20 win rookie season even if it was a lucky one.

I came to the conclusion that Wyman got a lot of run support (I mean his last 3 wins he won by 3+ runs, that could tell something) which allowed him to get 20 wins. It's like the Porcello thing, where he got a bunch of wins, with the greatest run support, and won the Cy Young despite Verlander being better in every other statistical category. So, I would pick Verlander (Oliveria)

I would pick Olvera. Technically, his OPS and OPS+ were worse than Richmond's, and Wyman was a 20 game-winning rookie, which is impressive. However, I think that something needs to be said for the position in which you play. For a third basemen, Olvera's numbers are very impressive, and the scouting report suggests that he does so while playing Gold Glove caliber defense. I think that trumps a 20 homer season by a corner outfielder and a 20 win season from a pitcher that wasn't otherwise dominating.

Olvera. Wins are useless in determining player skill. 2015 Drew Hutchinson for example.

I had Richmond and I didn't think it was close. Funny how we all see players differently.
The reasoning: I rank 3B pretty close to fielding importance as I do RF. Both guys play defense at a Gold Glove quality level. Both guys hit for a fairly high average and a bit of pop. However, what set Richmond apart for me was his plate discipline and bat control. You don't often see power hitters with an almost 1/1 walk to strike-out ration. Richmond took 24 more walks in 125 less plate appearances and struck out 29 less times. There is no question to me who was the better hitter out of the two. Seeing as how I value the defense at both positions the same, it was an easy choice. Wyman was never in the running. His win total was impressive but that is a team stat. The rest of his stats seem to indicate he was fairly lucky. I'd be curious what his FIP was but I don't think it would change my ranking.

Thanks for voting guys. I was curious to see what everyone thought of Wyman in particular.
Olvera and Richmond had some impressive numbers for a rookie, but I had wondered..and I know wins isn't something to truly judge a pitcher on, but if this were to happen in real life nowadays, would a 20-win season by a rookie pitcher be too impressive for voters to ignore?

A 20 win season (no matter how poor it actually was) would be way to much of a story for a player not to win ROY, it's like if Trevor Story hit 50 HR in his rookie season, he would win over Seager, Diaz, anyone probably. Because that's how the BWA works.
