What Is A Power Pitcher/Finesse Pitcher?
Hi guys, still kind of new to baseball and this game. Looking for a pitching coach, he is best with power pitchers but I don't know if I have any on my team. What exactly do I look for in a power pitcher? What is his velocity supposed to be and what number 20-80 should his fastball be. What is considered a Finesse Pitcher?
Thanks |

Power pitchers typically throw hard can get a lot of strikeouts they have a strong fastball hard slider also they tend to have to good split finger fastball's and forkballs at times in general may end up throwing more pitches in the game
finesse pitchers are like artists they focus more on location of the pitch and the type a pitch to get the person out they can still get strikeouts but they are the guys they would throw the right pitch at the right spot to get that ground ball double play for the most part they don't throw as hard But they tend to walk fewer batters and throw less pictures during the game

Thanks for the quick reply. I did a bit of research and have an idea of what they are but how can I tell in ootp. Do I look at his past seasons to see how many strikes he throws per 9?
What is considered a strong fastball, 65 up? So do I have to look and see if he has a strong fastball and slider? Basically I want to know how I can look at a pitcher in ootp 17 and say if he is a power pitcher or not. |

Do we see modeled in game the conversion that some successful pitchers make in real life from power pitcher to finesse?
I think Pedro Martinez was one, although I'm sure there are better examples. Guys who go from "throwing" to really pitching. I haven't played the game for long enough or paid close enough attention to that. Obviously its not every pitcher but is it something that is modeled at all? |

High control generally means finesse pitcher. BB/9 is a good indicator here, also. Stuff will likely be only average.

If you look at a coaches' relationships page, it will also tell you who he works well with and who he doesn't work with

You may want to edit one of the words in this partial quote. Come to think of it I've struck out with my share of those too, lol!.

Just a thought Padreman, would you prefer I edit my original post now that things are straightened out? I'm okay with it either way but certainly would rather follow what you would wish...

To give to real life examples on the same team: Jack Arrieta-Power, Kyle Hendricks-Finesse.
