If I don't sign the #1 overall pick, and I do so bad that I get the #1 pick what happens?
So in my fictional QuickStart stats only league I have real major league rookies inserted into the draft,
so onto the brass tax, I picked Brandon Webb with the 1st overall pick, realized that was a mistake and I never signed him since I could not afford him (budget cut by 60 million dollars) so got a comp pick for him 1st round, 1st overall, the thing is I'm on track to another 1st overall pick So what would happen would I have the 1st and 2nd overall pick? Is that how it works?

The comp pick for not signing Webb is the next pick in the next draft, so 2nd overall.
If you have the worst record again, you'll also have the 1st overall pick. |

I'm guessing your talking about the 2014 MLB Draft where he didn't sign Brady Aiken, the used the comp pick to get Correa, which I would hope happens to me I guess, Webb was the wrong pick

Correa was drafted No. 1 overall in 2012, the one No. 1 overall pick out of three Luhnow got right. He whiffed in 2013 by passing on Kris Bryant to take Mark Appel No. 1 overall. Appel has already been traded to the Phillies and is out for the rest of this year with arm problems.
In 2014, he found out Brady Aiken had a UCL that was likely to give out after the draft, cut his offer to Aiken by a bunch, Aiken wouldn't sign. Hopefully, Alex Bregman from the No. 2 spot in 2015 will pay off. He's expected to be called up to the Astros this weekend. |

Yeah, hard to fault the Aiken pick. Aiken took a hard line stance and I'm not sure he won that showdown. Maybe he'll pan out with the Tribe, who knows.
Agree with the answer to the OPs question. You should end up with the 1st and 2nd pick in that scenario. |

Yes aiken definitely lost that showdown. He lost $1.5 mil by not signing the $5mil the Astros offered, and instead signed for $3.5 mil with, um Cleveland. Hugh mistake dude. Unless he really hates the Astros for some reason

Aiken's agent, Casey Close, got all emotional and blasted the Astros near the end and they wouldn't even talk to the Astros in the last couple of days before the deadline. Same Casey Close who blasted the Orioles this past offseason because they leaked negotiations with Dexter Fowler, who ended up with the Cubs on a 1-year deal instead of the 3 the Orioles offered.
Anyway, Aiken and Close felt the Astros should have honored their original offer despite the UCL diagnosis. Two other players, Jacob Nix and Mac Marshall, couldn't sign over-slot deals with the Astros in that draft, either, because the Astros' allotted draft money pool shrunk once they didn't sign Aiken. Close represented both Aiken and Nix. Last edited by cheo25; 07-13-2016 at 07:10 PM. |

Yes, absolutely. That's how it should work. The pick you didn't sign is one behind in the next year, i.e. 1st overall falls to 2nd overall but if you get the first overall through legitimately bad performance the next year, you'll then have both of the top two picks in that draft!

Interestingly enough Webb was still picked 3rd overall so im guessing if I didnt take who I did, he could have been consecutive 1st overall picks...
