What is your dream OOTP?

I was not really sure where to make this, but I figured the suggestion thread was not the right place, because I know a lot of this stuff is not realistic, but if you had full control, and the ability to do whatever you wanted with a new version of OOTP, what would you have to change and/or create in order for the next version to be the game of your dreams?

For me personally, the only thing that I would love to add is a 3D engine that had good enough graphics to where it would be like watching an actual baseball game. My dream version of OOTP would be a game where I could create my fictional universe, and sit down and watch a full baseball game with fictional uniforms/caps/people the whole shebang. Just imagine being able to watch the events unfold in your league with the visuals of MLB the show(although I would gladly settle for PS2 level graphics). If OOTP added these graphics, and allowed for you to control what you see, and how fast the game simulation is, I honestly don't think I'd ever play another game.

I would also love to be able to record my own commentary, or maybe have OOTP hire professional commentators to do all of the voice over work to go along with the new graphics, so it would be more like an actual baseball broadcast. On the other hand, I'm kind of glad OOTP isn't this visually realistic...my life outside of OOTP is hanging on by a thread as is.

My dream is for Markus to sell OOTPB to EA and retire a millionaire, so they could add graphics to his great management programming... but I know EA would ruin the game if that happened.

I just recently posted this same thought that you have somewhere in a thread on this forum... I just want to watch the game play out with realistic animation of the players and a guy with a good voice doing the broadcast... don't need but one announcer in the booth... ESPN has ruined the broadcasts with three people who are constantly talking and telling me all the mechanics of batting and pitching and anecdotes about the players, most of which I could care less about... just let me watch the game... actually ESPN broadcasts would be much improved if they would just use one camera showing the whole field and cut off the sound... I get so tired of seeing the players in the dugouts picking their noses and eating some kind of seeds... and watching a game from behind the pitcher's mound, which is a bad angle... I now watch the game with the sound off.

I never saw it, but Earl Weaver Baseball reportedly had fine graphics and commentary in the 90s... I had a copy of Front Office Baseball and it also had pretty good player animation... this was in the early 2000s... but it wouldn't work on my new computer and didn't have a career mode... don't think Earl Weaver had career mode either.

EA would be a disaster. Pitcher stamina low? For only $1.29 you can re-energize your pitcher and have him at 100%. Want a boost for your club? Buy the $10 Mike Trout pack which adds him to your club and also gives your club a 5% hitting bonus for 3 games. $5 improves your scouting for 30 days. Etc..

The day ever comes where Markus decides to sell to EA is the day I never buy another version of OOTP.

Nothing against you Eugene, but that would be just about the worst thing Markus could ever do.

my dream OOTP? .... and it's possibly just mine, but that's OK ... Keep the Major Leagues just the way they are ... put historical minors back into the 1890's (even if unaffiliated, but with notes for the ones that were never affiliated, so i could do that manually for some teams if desired) ....put full Negro Leagues either as an alternate Major League or at least an unaffiliated minor league .... that also back to the 1890's ....

don't much care if there are historical minor league transactions for the players or not, as they'd be mute in a couple of seasons with my trades and all.

since i sim the games, i'm happy with the way the game runs.

I fully agree with Habsfan18. If this went the way of EA sports, it'd be the end of my association with the game. As i said, i'm into the GM, simming thing, and that would be a worthless direction for my skewed universe.

anyway ... in a dream world .....

Yea I agree that a move to EA would be a terrible decision. I've always said to myself that if I ever won the lottery that I would give Markus however much money he needed in order to give the 3D engine more of a modern look. That's the one thing keeping this game from being perfect in my opinion.

Full Negro Leagues is another thing that I would love to have in the game. At the moment I'm a completely fictional player, but I've always been intrigued by the Negro Leagues, so I would jump on that in a heartbeat. I'm actually shocked that they aren't in the game already.

exactly! And if you don't think that would happen, look at Football Manager. You have to buy a 4.99 DLC just for the right to edit a player!!

earlier in the year Spritze mentioned he was working on this. I can't recall the exact time frame, but in the spring he said he was finished with most of it but the fielding .... they he going to give it to Markus and see what he wanted to do with it, either a quickstart, minor league, or as free agents - that decision is up to Markus. Probably would be for version 18 i suspect, but there is work on this and more than likely Spritze has a pulse on it in the background somewhere, so there is hope for such things. i have accumulated a few books on the Negro Leagues and have patched an ugly and typo filled list of major NL players (some basic stats and positions) and their years of beginning play in the NL (or as close as i could tell). it's really crude but works for my basic needs, as i'm willing to enter each player manually, after creating a fictional player in the free agent part of the game. but i digress .....Spritze has been working on this .....

ALL the available Negro League players 1887-1944 (nearly 4,000) are in the minor league database. Still working on 1945-1962 when the Negro Leagues gave up the ghost and Caspered out.

so i gather it's now in the hands of Markus? And most likely waiting for a decision for 18? Or a chance it could be squeezed in later this year?

Whenever .... thanks for the work and update! Greatly appreciated!!!

Last year I would have said full minor leagues in historical play. But they added that this year. I guess it says something about the quality of the game that I can't really think of anything

I guess my dream would be integrated online play. Where a group of friends could connect to a server and create, draft, and run leagues, playing out single seasons, or a full online career leagues, all from within the game.

And of coarse one day AI getting to the point where it rivals playing against another Human. The Skynet of baseball sims

Now that have these really cool 3D stadiums, how about some form of Sim City like deal that allows us to put together/build our stadiums. I don't use 3D, but love the park images. I would love to be able to build my own in game.

I understand why this will never happen, but since the thread is about dreams, my dream OOTP would have a schedule maker so I could finally make use of Dynamic Evolution without first having to look to see if there is a schedule to go with every form of expansion.

Instead of one league newspaper, my dream OOTP would have team newspapers. Could be daily or even weekly, but would cover each teams happenings from the demotion of a struggling player, injuries, hot and cold streaks, team milestones, rumors the owner may be ready to sell, move, die, staff hires and fires. Just anything and everything about that particular team.

Historical uniforms to go with the logos

And here is one that I've been asking for years......the ability to expand a one subleague league into a 2 subleague league without messing up league history.

Just thought of one more. Now that we have historical exhibitions, I dream that someday OOTP will have an in game tournament mode that allows us to maintain statistics for the duration of the tournament. To start out it could come with basic 32 team and 64 team brackets.

I dream of an option for fictional leagues and random debut leagues that would allow us to pick a decade for our league and have OOTP randomly pick a season from those 10 years for the league modifiers prior to each new season.

I'm still dreaming of my fictional historical idea:

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...l-leagues.html

Quote:
How about a Historical Fictional option? What if OOTP made a historical database for our fictional universes where we could use that feature to go back to relive and change baseball history? This would be especially useful for us long term simmers. Let's say we're in 2020 and we'd like to go back and start a historical game in 1985 using our fictional database. How cool would that be? Did a star player who was looking like he may break records go down with a career ending injury? Now you can replay those years and change history! Relive or watch dynasties change. Star fictional players may end up being busts. etc..Taking it one step further, how about historical fictional mode using random debut? I'm getting ahead of myself here but the possibilities would be endless.
Quote:
Basically my thought is the exact same concept as the MLB historical mode, but with fictional leagues. With MLB historical, you can go back and play with a young Babe Ruth, Barry Bonds etc.. I'm 120+ seasons into a completely fictional MLB with all fictional players. Looking through the leagues history has me thinking how cool it would be if the game could make a historical database of this particular fictional league. This way, I can go back and play the 60's/70's etc.. and see how things would play out differently.

So basically the exact same as historical MLB mode, but with a database created completely from a previously simmed fictional file. The game would treat that file like it was THE official history of the game in our universe. We could go back and replay with those specific fictional players like we would do in fictional MLB mode. Have a favorite fictional player that retired 20-30 years ago? Now you'd be able to go back and relive those seasons with that player in his younger days and see if his career would play out the same.

I don't remember how long about (I've been playing a long, long time), but at one point, there was a fictional database created by a mod.
