Low Ability/Potential in Historical mode.

Decided to play in historical mode. Playing the 2001-2002 currently unemployed. Went to look at my Leafs and i see this

Mogilny coming off a 83 point season including 43 goals only has two star ability. Gary f'ing Valk is rated higher lol. Mogilny is not even good enough to be on the roster yet back then only Sundin was better then him on the Leafs. I'm afraid to look at other teams.

Renberg only has one star lol. Someone doesn't want the Leafs to win.

I tried to change Mogilny's ratings which i did and the next season he's back to being 2 1/2 star player and off the team. How do you get his ratings to stick?

Is that with annual recalculation development mode? That'd be why it changes again after the next season. Mogilny's exact career path is a little difficult to represent in the game, he needs to be a superstar for the first half of the 90's, but then his production collapsed in the late 90's before he bounced back with the Devils and Leafs. That kind of career path is tough for the historical system to model well. In his case, it looks like I've started the decline a little too early, I'll make a few adjustments so he hasn't fallen so far by 2001.

I wouldn't say his production "collapsed" in the late 90's...he was still averaging nearly a point a game...but clearly his production dipped.

It was the same thing with both options you have to choose from. Yeah please make those adjustments if you could. Thanks Jeff.

Renberg needs to be looked at as well. He's a 1 star in the game in 01-02. He should be much higher then that. Probably 3 stars.

Renberg's another tough one to model, he's got those good seasons with the Legion of Doom at the start of his career, and then he's a second-liner at best after the Tampa trade. I'll make him a little better at the beginning and bump his decline back a bit. That should help, but that mini-comeback in 2001-02 will be hard to duplicate.

I picked a bad year to play haha. But it's a special one for me being a Leafs fan. They got so close but ended up losing to the Canes in the semis in 02. I've simed a couple seasons of 01-02 and without the effectiveness of Moginly and Renberg the Leafs struggle. Finishing 26th and 23rd overall. Yikes haha.

Edit: Take a look at Robert Reichel who doesn't play any games because he is rated so low and Gary Roberts only gets to play 10-15 games a season because of his low rating. No wonder the Leafs finish almost last in all my test sims. Did a Habs fan create this roster or what? In 01-02 they had 51 and 48 points respectfully. Roberts had 48 pts in 69 games no less. So that's 4 of the Leafs top 6 in scoring that year that either don't play in this game because their rating is so low or only play a handful of games.
