10/23/2034 - League Championship Series Game 2

Mark Olsen was taking the ball for Game 2 of the ALCS, and games like this was the primary reason that I acquired him. Tonight Olsen would end up going 7 innings while allowing just 1 on 5 hits, walking 1 and striking out 6. He did his job, and put us in position to win if our offense could do their job.

Tonight they did with a 3 run fourth that was keyed by RBI doubles from Jose Turcios and Ramon Galindo. Then in the sixth inning Ron Barker put the game out of reach with a 3 run home run to give us a 6-1 lead.

And the score would remain 6-1 with Bob Kirby pitching a hitless eighth and ninth. He's up to 7 scoreless innings of relief in the playoffs now. Kirby was one of the guys I was worried about this postseason after putting up a 4.87 ERA in September. I should know better than to question anything with Kirby, who continues to do unexpected things, like going from a reliever to ace. While this year wasn't nearly as good as last season for Kirby, I'd definitely like to see him get a ring this year, because I don't think I can afford him next season. So hopefully we can win this for Kirby.

10/25/2034 - League Championship Series Game 3

Baseball is a funny game. I expected us to cruise through the Tigers series, and have a tough time with the White Sox. We struggled much more than I expected with Detroit, and after another solid effort on the mound from Ferri Boere the Knights are now up 3 games to none in the ALCS, one win away from heading back to the World Series.

This postseason it seems like our offense is living by the long ball. That's fine with me as long as we can keep hitting them. Tonight we got home runs from Ronaldo Lopez and Pete Woolford in the 5-2 win with Ramon Galindo adding an RBI double.

Jose Turcios and Ramon Galindo are certainly doing their part to make up for the injured Ricardo Martinez, with Turcios playing shortstop tonight and going 3-4 at the plate.

Boere would end up exiting after striking out 8 batters in 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits. Our bullpen didn't allow a hit with Bob Kirby pitching two innings, and Miguel Hernandez pitching the ninth to earn the save.

10/26/2034 - League Championship Series Game 4

Our goal has been pretty clear this year, get back to (and win) the World Series. Up 3 games to none we got things started in the first when Justin Lewis bunted for a single, Eric Wolf doubled him home, Francisco Carranza tripled him home, and then scored on a groundout.

Taking the mound with a 3-0 lead made Daniel George's job much easier although he hurt himself with 4 walks, and was out of the game after 5 innings with a 3-1 lead and high pitch count. Brandon Patton was first out of the pen and pitched two hitless innings.

By the time Bob Kirby took the mound we were up 8-1 with an insurance run in the seventh, and a pinch hit grand slam from Jose Hernandez in the eighth.

Kirby would pitch a scoreless eighth, but ran into trouble in the ninth giving up 2 runs on 3 hits while only getting one out, forcing Don Webb to come into the game and retire the final two batters.

With the 8-3 win the Knights completed the sweep and will be heading back to the World Series for the second straight year where we'll either have a rematch against the Nationals, or face the Phillies. With the Nationals up 3-1 in the series it's looking likely we'll see a rematch.

10/28/2034 - World Series Preview

After beating us in the World Series last year the Nationals started the season red hot, going 38-16. The Nationals would play .500 ball June through the end of September though, and needed to win both of their final games while the Marlins dropped their final two games in order to squeak by and capture the National League South Division by a game.

The Nationals still won 93 games this year, and aren't a bad team, just a team that was seriously hampered by injuries. They rolled past the Reds in the Division Series 4 games to 1, and then knocked off the 97 win Phillies by the same margin.

The Nationals have relied on two of their healthy veteran hurlers, Joe Jackson and Jacob Denton, along with top prospect Pedro Perozo rounding out the rotation. They'll be a tough team to beat, but I'm hoping that the motivation of last year's World Series defeat will push us over the edge.

I don't want to jinx this by commenting on the series, so just let me say this...

You have the best dynasty ever! I know how hard it is to do this for 15-20 years, and you have kept your reports fresh and interesting for over 100 seasons and 4 game versions. Amazing!

Hats off to you, and best of luck with the Knights.

(I do have one request though... please publish your manager history at some point soon.)

Thank you very much! That means alot coming from you, author of the best dynasty ever!

It really has been a long time though, definitely the longest I've kept a game file going. I'm glad I can keep things fresh and interesting though. I'm still having fun with it, so I'm glad others are enjoying it too.

Thank you again, and I think I still need all the luck I can get with the Knights. Game 1 was an adventure, coming up soon. I'll also publish my manager history tonight after I finish up the Game 1 recap.

Thank you! I'll get the manager history out tonight. Last series felt real good. This World Series is going to either feel real good, or real bad! But I'm excited for the opportunity for revenge on the Nationals!!

10/28/2034 - World Series Game 1

Game one would feature a matchup between our ace Mark Olsen and Nationals' rookie Pedro Perozo, with four regular season and two postseason starts to his history. The rookie and the veteran would battle for seven innings.

The Knights struck first in the bottom of the first when Ron Barker hit a solo home run to take an early 1-0 lead. The Nationals would come right back and tie the game at 1 in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly. The game would remain tied until the bottom of the third when Jose Turcios hit a solo homer to give the Knights a 2-1 lead.

The Knights would take a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth when Robinson Velasquez hit our third solo home run of the game. Unfortunately that lead didn't last when Ramon Pinto hit a two run home run in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 3.

It would stay tied at 3 through seven when both starters exited. Don Webb was first out of the bullpen with a scoreless eighth, followed by Miguel Hernandez pitching a scoreless ninth and tenth. Bob Kirby would come on to pitch the eleventh and twelfth, and not give up a run. I was relieved that I spent some effort trying to solidify our bullpen, and Ron Bush was next out of the pen to pitch the thirteenth, and fourteenth innings.

With the score tied at 3 in the bottom of the fourteenth and one out Pete Woolford would single, steal second, and move to third on a throwing error on the stolen base attempt. The bases were loaded after an intentional walk to Jose Hernandez and a walk to Ronaldo Lopez, bringing Mario Nesta to the plate with one out.

Nesta joined our organization on Opening Day of 2032 when he signed a minor league contract and ended up with a 1.8 WAR season that year. He hasn't been able to recreate that magic since, although he's been a decent backup catcher, making 29 starts this year and hitting .280. Nesta didn't start Game 1 either, but was in the game after Robinson Velasquez was lifted for a pinch hitter, but he ended today's game with a walk off single to give the Knights the 4-3 win in 14 innings and take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Before we get to game 2 I promised to share my full manager record last night, then ended up getting side tracked. There were a few years I skipped for one reason or another, so in total I was GM for 124 seasons so far. I keep a copy of my record in excel, so I didn't realize before, but I passed the 10,000 win milestone in Carolina, with a career record of 10,239-9350.

10/29/2034 - World Series Game 2

Game 2 featured a pitching matchup of Joe Jackson (14-12, 2.63) versus Jose Ruiz (14-6, 3.52) which started out with a back and forth battle for the first three innings which left the score tied at 3.

The Knights were able to take a 4-3 lead in the fourth on a long ball by Justin Lewis, and the anticipated pitching battle was over with Jackson exiting the game after just 4 innings. We added an insurance run in the fifth when Ronaldo Lopez doubled, and Ruiz left the game after six innings with a 5-3 lead.

Over the course of the year my confidence in our bullpen has continued to grow, but tonight wasn't their night. Brandon Patton, Don Webb, and Miguel Hernandez would each pitch an inning, and each allow a run while our bats grew silent as the Nationals came back and evened up the series with a 6-5 win.

10/31/2034 - World Series Game 3

For the first two innings the Knights and Nationals were locked in a pitcher's duel, with our offense unable to muster anything against Jacob Denton, and Ferri Boere shutting out the Nats.

I was starting to get a little bit concerned when Eric Wolf drew a two out walk in the third, and Ronaldo Lopez picked up just our second hit of the game. I started to feel better when Francisco Carranza drew the count full, then hit a three run homer to give us an early lead.

Little did I know that would be all the offense we would get today, but Ferri Boere held the Nationals to just 1 run on 4 hits through five innings before rain ended his night.

Once again the game would be decided by our bullpen, but this time they combined for four innings of one hit ball to preserve the 3-1 win. Brandon Patton would pitch the sixth, with Bob Kirby pitching the seventh and eighth innings, and Miguel Hernandez earning his third save of the postseason with a scoreless ninth.

The Knights will look to go up 3 games to 1 with Daniel George on the mound for Game 4 tomorrow.

11/1/2034 - World Series Game 4

I entered game four without too high of expectations from Daniel George. He started the year hot going 3-1 with an 0.92 ERA in April, and 2-1 with a 2.03 ERA in May, but he was just 5-7 after that, and inconsistent at best. After giving up 6 runs in 3 innings in the Division Series he was effective in a 5 inning start in the League Championship Series, but I was nervous about his start.

While he would only go 5 innings, he held the Nationals to 1 run on 3 hits, although he did walk four batters. He did leave the game with a 4-1 lead though, compliments of a three run homer from Justin Lewis and solo homer from Pete Woolford.

We got two innings of scoreless relief from both Brandon Patton and Don Webb, and a two run home run in the ninth from Ken Blake to seal the 6-1 win.

Once again all of our runs came via the long ball, but the Knights did lead the American League with 190 home runs this year.

For the second straight year the Knights are up 3 games to 1 in the World Series. I'd have to think the odds are pretty small to blow a 3-1 lead in the World Series two years in a row, but I'm still pretty nervous until we win that final game.
