Upgrading to OOTP 14

I am playing a fictional league in OOTP 13. I had taken a break from playing so I haven't bought 14 yet but am about to finish with my current season and am ready to upgrade. When is the best time to do this upgrade on an existing league?

I don't think it matters, but most people tend to upgrade either at the start of the off-season or in "pre-season" (not Spring Training).
